The Dealership of Tomorrow 2.0: America’s Car Dealers Prepare for Change February 2020 An independent study by Glenn Mercer Prepared for the National Automobile Dealers Association The Dealership of Tomorrow 2.0 America’s Car Dealers Prepare for Change by Glenn Mercer Introduction This report is a sequel to the original Dealership of Tomorrow: 2025 (DOT) report, issued by NADA in January 2017. The original report was commissioned by NADA in order to provide its dealer members (the franchised new-car dealers of America) perspectives on the changing automotive retailing environment. The 2017 report was intended to offer “thought starters” to assist dealers in engaging in strategic planning, looking ahead to roughly 2025.1 In early 2019 NADA determined it was time to update the report, as the environment was continuing to shift. The present document is that update: It represents the findings of new work conducted between May and December of 2019. As about two and a half years have passed since the original DOT, focused on 2025, was issued, this update looks somewhat further out, to the late 2020s. Disclaimers As before, we need to make a few things clear at the outset: 1. In every case we have tried to link our forecast to specific implications for dealers. There is much to be said about the impact of things like electric vehicles and connected cars on society, congestion, the economy, etc. But these impacts lie far beyond the scope of this report, which in its focus on dealerships is already significant in size. Readers are encouraged to turn to academic, consulting, governmental and NGO reports for discussion of these broader issues.

Movement is the universal language of personal freedom. Our founder Louis Chevrolet spoke it fluently. As a Swiss immigrant, he came to America with a dream of racing cars. He wished for everyone — not just the rich or entitled — to experience the exhilaration he felt behind the wheel. In 1911, he began building his first car. One hundred years later, a new Chevrolet is sold every 6.6 seconds. That amounts to 4.76 million vehicles in more than 140 countries — more than Louis Chevrolet could ever have imagined. The depth of our heritage and passion is evident in everything we do here at Chevrolet. It’s ingrained in the bold design, spirited performance, proven durability and exceptional value our drivers enjoy. It empowers us to be leaders in innovation. And it inspires us to continuously raise the bar — today, tomorrow and into what promises to be a bright future. Currently, we are pioneering new propulsion technologies to meet the demanding energy and environmental needs of a global automotive brand. We’re also employing alternative energy sources and investing in fuel-saving technologies to help reduce our carbon footprint with the goal of reducing 8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the next few years. Our global reach is expanding, yet our mission remains the same. We want every customer to feel like family — no matter where you are in the world. And no matter where you’re going, we want you to enjoy the ride in a Chevrolet. From the vision of one to the journey of many, Chevy Runs Deep.

  • 20 Ways the All-New Chevrolet Trax Makes Its Mark Chevy’S Small SUV Rolls Into U.S
For Release: Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, 9 a.m. EST 20 Ways the All-New Chevrolet Trax Makes its Mark Chevy’s small SUV rolls into U.S. with versatility, technology and maneuverability SAN DIEGO – With the utility of an SUV and agility of a compact car, the 2015 Chevrolet Trax is a city-smart vehicle ready for almost any adventure. Packed with the technology city dwellers depend on for their connected lifestyles – including 4G LTE Wi-Fi and Siri Eyes Free – Trax is also an efficient performer, with a standard turbocharged engine delivering power on demand and an EPA-estimated 34 mpg on the highway. “Chevrolet is making a huge inroads with small cars around the world and Trax is the latest example,” said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet director of car marketing. “It is the right vehicle at the right time in the U.S., building on Chevrolet’s strong SUV heritage with a package of features combining value, versatility, technology and maneuverability.” Trax is Chevrolet’s seventh small vehicle launch in four years, a diverse lineup that’s seen the brand’s share of the small-, compact- and mini-car segments more than triple. In fact, the Chevrolet Cruze recently surpassed 3 million global sales, while the Spark reached the 1-million sales milestone. Getting a head start on the competition, the Trax goes on sale in the United States in early 2015, where the emerging small-SUV segment is estimated to grow more than 80 percent in the next few years. Trax is already on sale in 66 global markets, where it has generated approximately 180,000 sales since its 2012 introduction.
