PRESSEMITTEILUNG 19.02.2019 Lee Fields & the Expressions In FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH Große Elbstr. 277 a ∙ 22767 Hamburg Tel.

  • Antibalas Biography.Pdf
ANTIBALAS BIO It’s hard to believe that more than twenty years have passed since Antibalas’s humble beginning as a neighborhood dance / protest band in the block parties and underground parties in pre-gentrified Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Over the past two decades they have evolved into what The Guardian called “one of the world’s finest Afrobeat bands” while enjoying equal renown for their cross-genre collaborations with legends of popular music. With a heavy balance of experience and new blood, the group leaps into 2020 with their new Daptone Records full- length “Fu Chronicles.” Founded in 1998 by saxophonist Martín Perna, early incarnations of the group included several members of The Dap-Kings including bassist / producer Gabriel Roth, guitarist Binky Griptite, keyboardist Victor Axelrod, conguero Fernando “Bugaloo Velez,” and trumpeter Anda Szilagyi. As the group expanded, it absorbed younger musicians from the Daptone family including bassist Nick Movshon (El Michels, Black Keys) and other musical natives and transplants from downtown Manhattan and North Brooklyn music scenes. In 1999, Perna and Roth dropped in at an atelier / dojo belonging to Duke Amayo. They invited him to a neighborhood concert and then reached out to him later as an emergency substitute for a show. Amayo soon became a fixture in the group, first on percussion, then later on vocals, vibraphone, and keyboards and moving to center stage as the group’s frontman and creating the Afro-Spot, the band’s headquarters as well as the home of the first Daptone Records studio. Over the next few years, the band performed several times a month throughout NYC at the Afro-Spot, at benefits, lofts, block parties, and at their Lower Manhattan weekly residency called “Africalia” with regular appearances by friends including Sharon Jones, Lee Fields, and The Sugarman Three.

  • Diamond Mine Recording Studio
the diamond mine 1040 45th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101 [email protected] THE SPACE The Diamond Mine is a 1400 square foot recording studio designed in the image of classic rooms of yester- year, encouraging live performance and recording to tape, but also equipped with contemporary digital capabili- ties like any other facility. It features a spacious, daylit live room with an iso-booth, a control room with a stock- pile of analog gear, a lounge for relaxing, and an enormous roof with inspirational views of the NYC skyline. Built in 2014, and nestled within a non-descript industrial building that used to be the Fairchild Recording Equipment factory, this studio includes a tremendous collection of vintage instruments, and has served as a pri- vate creative hub for internationally acclaimed artists, producers and songwriters. Located 10 minutes from Midtown Manhattan or North Brooklyn in a rapidly growing neighborhood that has great restaurants, coffee, bars, breweries, a bowling alley, and stunning waterfront parks, but is still without the dreaded traffic and crowds found elsewhere. The Diamond Mine is owned by a group of four musicians who have been musical partners since they were teenagers (and it is not their first studio). Leon, Homer, Tommy, and Nick are a soul-funk rhythm section who have, since the year 2000, created instrumental music under several different project names (Menahan Street Band, El Michels Affair, The Expressions, The Radiant Rhythm Band) and attracted some incredible collabo- rators along the way. The vibe in The Diamond Mine reflects the artists who have graced its halls.

  • Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings Albums Live Download
sharon jones & the dap-kings albums live download Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, aka Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, are a funk/soul band, founded in Brooklyn, NY, USA (1996). They are signed to Daptone Records, where the dap-kings are the house band. They are widely thought to be spearheads of a revivalist movement that aims to capture the essence of funk/soul music as it was at its height in the mid-1960s to mid-1970s. Part of the way this is achieved is to shun modern digital recording methods in favour of using traditional analogue recording equipment. The type of instruments used by the band may also be considered limited to those that would have been available up until the mid seventies. Sharon Jones was born Sheron Lafaye Jones, in Augusta, Georgia (4 May 1956). Her mother moved to Brooklyn, soon thereafter, however Jones was sent down south for a few months every year to stay with her family. As a child, she and her brothers would imitate the songs and dances of James Brown, who shared their home-town. Like many rhythm and blues entertainers, she began performing in church at a very young age. As a teenager in the early nineteen seventies, she began singing outside of the church in talent shows and with local funk groups. Later she would make her living with a combination of sporadic session work as a mostly anonymous voice on various dance records (sometimes credited as Lafaye Jones), singing with wedding bands, and a handful of day jobs which included stints as both a prison guard at New York's notorious Riker's Island, and an armored car guard for Wells Fargo Bank.
