The TrustPower National Community Awards are being held in Greymouth this weekend. Kihikihi Waikato Eventing is representing Waipa at the national awards – an honour they won after being named supreme winner at the TrustPower Waipa Community Awards last year. The TrustPower Waipa District Community Awards are run in conjunction with the Waipa District Council. Joining Kihikihi Waikato Eventing at the national awards will be representatives from 20 other voluntary groups or organisations from around the country that were named supreme winner at their regional TrustPower Com- munity Awards in 2005. At the nationals, Kihikihi Waikato Eventing will give a 10 minute presentation on what the group has achieved and why they deserve the title of TrustPower National Commu- nity Award supreme winner. The presentation will be in the form of a DVD. With Robyn North operating camera and Robbie Kay as inter- viewer, many of the locals were happy to speak about their pleasure at the domain improvements. The photos of the horses jumping the World Cup cross- country fences (courtesy of Barbara Thomson) also make excellent viewing, helping convey to the judges what the sport of eventing is all about. John Nicholson was the mastermind behind the improve- ments. He encouraged the local residents to join in the working bees and take ownership of their domain. It has created a strong community spirit and has the vari- ous sporting groups and clubs based at the domain working together. The presentation will take place on Saturday, March 18, with the winner and runner-up being announced at an awards dinner that evening. TrustPower community relations co-ordinator, Rebecca James says Kihikihi Waikato Eventing have put together a fantastic presentation. “The Waipa community should be really proud of what Kihikihi Waikato Eventing has achieved. “They will make wonderful ambassadors for the Waipa District at the TrustPower National Community Awards.” Attending the national awards from the Kihikihi Waikato Eventing will be the president Robyn North and course designer John Nicholson, along with Waipa District mayor Alan Livingston and his wife Janet. The TrustPower National Community Award Supreme Winner will take home $2,500, a framed certifi cate and a ANNABEL WIGLEY and Black Drum clear the first jump in the crosscountry during the FEI Eventing World Cup trophy.
