From Athens International Airport "El. Venizelos" you can reach Patras by bus and train of OSE (public Greek railways) as well. Take the Athens Suburban Railway to Kiato and then take the bus that leaves every 1 hour from Kiato heading to Patras. FROM PYRGOS, ANCIENT OLYMPIA, KYLLINI, ARAXOS TO PATRAS Access to Patras from these areas is carried out by the National Road Patras - Pyrgos. -

The policy paper “Bologna Charter 2012 - European Regions Charter for the promotion of a common framework for strategic actions aimed at the protection and sustainable development of the Mediterranean coastal areas” (www.bolognacharter.eu), was subscribed on the 21st of March 2013 by several maritime Regions and Administrations of the Mediterranean, and adopted by the Intermediterranean Commission of the CRPM, General Assembly on the 27th of June 2013 in Barcelona. This document represents the updating of the Bologna Charter Joint Action Plan (BC-JAP) issued in 2015 (MED Capitalization Program, COASTGAP project’ Best Practice n. 5) prepared with the contribution of project’s and BC’s partners within the BC Coordination Board started in 2014 by the Intermediterranean Commmission of the CPMR, and now “Bologna Charter Task Force” within the working Group on Transport & Integrated Maritime Policy of the IMC-CPMR, and in particular it: updates on the frame of action and the implementation activities of the BC-JAP after 4 years from its issue and presentation within the Med Capitalisation Final Event by the Committee of the Regions in Brussels, in March 2015; refers on the state-of-art of JAP implementation and its impact on policies in these years, through cooperation projects for the development and objectives achievements of the action lines of JAP Strategic Themes 1 to 3, on the advancements of Major Coastal Projects implementation (JAP Strategic Theme 4) and on the start and participation in new initiatives matching with topics of Blue -

DOI: 10.3285/eg.63.1.04 Abstract: As part of the lagoon barrier accretions plain characterizing the NW coast of the Peloponnese, the Kotychi Lagoon is believed to have formed in the prograding delta of the Palaeo-Peneus River over 7000 years ago. Geochemical/sedimentological proxies-data (XRF, grain size, OC-, IC-, C/N-analysis) combined with Bayesian age-depth-modeling revealed that from 8500 to 8000 cal BP marine conditions were prevailing. Around 8000 cal BP, a short-lived sequence of coastline progradation and barrier accretion created lagoonal conditions. Thus, the first chronological control for the onset of lagoon formation in coastal Elis is presented. Pronounced lagoonal conditions developed approximately 6300 cal BP, simultaneously to the period of circum-Mediterranean lagoon formation. A rapidly varying sedimentary record indicates a phase of geomorphological instability between 5200 and 3500 cal BP terminating with the erosional unconformity of a river channel. This evolution reflects a two-phase development: (1) Early Holocene morphology was controlled by the postglacial sea level rise; (2) with receding of the ice sheets by mid-Holocene, the preeminent role of the eustatic signal was overwhelmed giving local and regional processes, such as human-induced soil erosion and climatic forcing an accentuated role. -

In compliance to the EU Directive 91/271, there is a legal binding to ensure that all agglomerations with populations over 2000 are provided with wastewater collecting system and adequate treatment. The conditions for optimum application of the Directive in Greece, especially in the light of the recent administrative reor- ganization, and the management of small rural communities not covered by the Directive are addressed, with reference to a case study application in the Achaia County. In compliance to the EU Directive 91/271, it is estimated that collecting systems and treatment should expand to at least 70% of the total population. However, due to the expanding touristic activity, the limited availability of land, environmental considerations, and favorable population characteristics (high density, relatively large communities) and morphological and socioeconomical conditions, it is proposed that coverage can reach to 85% of the total population. -
