He married ARCHANGE RIOPEL June 26, 1810 in Detroit, daughter of AMBROSE RIOPEL and TERESA CAMPAU. She was born May 25, 1784 in Detroit, and died 1827 in Dix Settlement. Both buried Dix Settlement Cemetery. The commander in chief was given the right to determine the color and fashion of the uniforms of officers, non-commisioned officers and privates, and the occasions on which they must appear in uniform. A report from July 9 1805 show 623 soldiers in ten companies.” “Feb 1 1813, John Dix was one of a group of military men who signed a petition protesting the terms of the surrender of 1812, and claiming that the order for the leading Americans to leave the territory would create undo hardship for their families.
