Dettweiler [Eby 2252] and Susannah Bingeman [Eby 1048], was born on Mar 25, 1837 in Waterloo Co., Ontario and died on Dec 8, 1897 in Midland, Fauquier Co., Virginia aged 60. The Family Bible gives the date of marriage for Henry and Matilda as being Dec. 7, 1858, however an obituary for Matilda in the Gospel Herald says they were married on Dec. 8, 1858. Probably, the Family Bible account should be considered correct. Henry married Matilda Snyder on Dec 7, 1858, daughter of Moses Snyder and Esther Wenger ...[Eby 8009] . Matilda was born on Nov 27, 1839 in Waterloo Co., Ontario and died on Jan 30, 1937 in Michigan aged 97. They had four children: Israel, Rudolph Snyder, Elizabeth and Susanna S.. "Suminy" would be Susannah; Mattelby should be Matilda. Matilda was born to unmarried parents, thus her mother's name (Esther Wenger) was not shown above. Cannot ascertain which Moses Snyder was Matilda's father. Gospel Herald, February 25, 1937 - Vol. XXIX, No.48 - page 1022,1023,1024 Dettwiler.-Matilda Snyder was born Nov. 27, 1839 in Waterloo Co., Ont.; died at -the home of her daughter (Mrs. B. F. Switzer) near Vestaburg, Mich., Jan. 30, 1937; aged 97 y. 2 m. 3 d. She was married Dec. 8, 1858, to Henry B. Dettwiler. To this union were born 2 sons and 2 daughters (Israel of Caro, Mich.; Rudolph of Crestview, Fla.; Mrs. Elizabeth Snyder and Mrs. Susanna Switzer of Vestaburg, Mich.). Besides her 4 children she leaves 21 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren. At the age of 17 she was baptized, became a member of the Mennonite Church, and lived her profession to the end. Her husband preceded her nearly 40 years. He was a minister of the Mennonite Church and died in Midland, Va., Dec. 5, 1897. She went through many sorrows and trials in her younger days, being deprived of her mother at the age of ten years. She was the oldest in the family of 5 children and the last one of them to leave this world. Her greatest concern was that her children, grandchildren, and all of her descendants would live such lives to meet her in the glory world. Many were the prayers she sent to the Throne of God for them. For the past thirteen years. she was confined to her home and she always appreciated the services held in the home in her behalf. During her eighty years of fellowship in the Church she acquired a large circle of friends. Her mind was clear and active until about twelve hours before her death. Services were conducted at the home by Erie E. Bontrager and at the Ferris Christian Church by Royal A. Buskirk (Text, II Tim. 4:6-8), assisted by Erie E. Bontrager and .Joseph Sherrick. Burial in Ferris Cemetery. Dettweiler. - Israel, son of Henry and Matilda Dettweiler, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Nov. 27, 1859; passed away Jan. 13, 1948; aged 88 y. 1 m. 17 d. On Oct. 4, 1886, he was united in marriage to Lydia Wideman, who survives. Also surviving are 4 daughters (Mrs. Walter Goudie, Mrs. Susanna Smith, Mrs. Forest Vader, all of Caro, Mich.; and Mrs. Floyd Wilson, New Lothrop, Mich.), 25 grandchildren, 29 great- grandchildren, and two sisters (Mrs. Elisabeth Snyder and Mrs. Susanna Switzer, Vestabrug, Mich.). Three sons (Albert, Elmer, and Elden) predeceased him. In 1888 he moved with his family to Tuscola Co., Mich. About 1920 he and his wife moved near Caro. Early in life he accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized a member of the Mennonite Church, remaining a member throughout his life. Funeral services were conducted at the home and at the Colwood United Brethren Church, in charge of Donald King. Lydia was born on Apr 17, 1864 in Huron County, Ontario, died on Jul 29, 1953 near Caro, Michigan aged 89, and was buried in Almer Cemetery, Near Caro, Michigan. They had seven children: Magdalena, Susannah, Lovina, Albert, Elden Wideman, Elmer and Lillie Ann. She was married to Israel Dettweiler, Oct. 4, 1885. They moved to Tuscola Co., Mich., in January, 1888. To this union were born 4 daughters and 3 sons. The 4 daughters survive (Mrs. Susanna Smith; Lavina;Mrs. Forrest Vader, all of Caro, Mich., and Lillie Ann;Mrs. Lloyd Wilson, Ypsilanti, Mich.). She is also survived by one sister (Mrs. Magdalena Reist, Bay Port, Mich.), and one brother (Henry Wideman, Pigeon, Mich.). Her husband preceded her in death in January, 1948, and also her 3 sons, Eldon, in April 1938, and Albert and Elmer in infancy. In her youth she chose to follow Jesus Christ. She was baptized into the Mennonite faith in which she remained throughout life. Her Christian witness was largely expressed in her influence as a mother and grandmother. Funeral services were held at the United Brethren Church, Colwood, Mich., in charge of Donald King, L.H. Cook, and L. A. Wilson. Interment was made in the Almer Cemetery near Caro, Mich.
