Association of Awards Ceremony for the 254th Regiment the United States (Combat Arms) of the NJ Army National Guard Army (AUSA) July 08, 2017 The Monmouth Chapter hosted and sponsored the First Region's "Salute to the Monmouth, 254th Regiment” Awards Ceremony at the NJ National Guard Training Center, Sea Girt, NJ. Ten soldiers of the 254th Regiment were presented with awards in NJ Chapter recognition of outstanding military leadership. The guest speaker was BG Edward J. Crystal Jr., Deputy Adjutant for the NJ Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and Assistant Adjutant General for the NJ Army National Guard. In attendance were COL (R) Dennis Doughtery, First Region President; Arthur Loran, First Region VP for Soldier Programs and COL (R) Samuel Fuoco, Monmouth Chapter President.

Citizen Scholarship Award Presentation July 11, 2017 The Monmouth Chapter presented two $1,500 In This Issue: scholarship awards to local high school students who displayed outstanding community service. Service Dog Donation Recipients were Erika Recanzone and Isoble Murrer to a Veteran from the Red Bank Catholic High School, Red Bank, NJ. Corporate Member Salute to the USO and Barbecue July 15, 2017 Monmouth Chapter Corporate Member, Circle Auto Group (owners Donald, Paul and DeFelice), hosted a Salute to the USO at their dealership in Shrewsbury, NJ. This event included a complimentary barbecue for Military Troops, Veterans and their families. Monmouth Chapter board members in attendance were COL (R) Samuel Fuoco, President; Kit Roache, VP Programs; CSM (R) Jack Chlapowski, VP Education; LTC (R) Richard Gaudio, Treasurer; Jan Moren; Yvonne Bova and Charles Seal. A donation check of $250 was presented to the USO Team from the Monmouth Chapter.

AUSA Monmouth Chapter Corporate Member July 21, 2017 Monmouth Chapter Corporate Member, All Seasons Restaurant & Diner, hosted the weekly Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce "Perkolater Breakfast” networking meeting in Eatontown, NJ. Monmouth Chapter President COL (R) Samuel Fuoco; Kit Roache, VP Programs and Ellie Smith, Secretary presented the “30 second elevator” briefing concerning the AUSA mission of “Voice for the Army - Support for the Soldier” and a brief update on Monmouth Chapter upcoming events.

Networking July 25, 2017 Monmouth Chapter Corporate Member, Eatontown Industrial Park Association (EIPA) sponsored a networking event at Stumpy's Hatchet House in Eatontown, NJ. Approximately 40 participants representing local businesses and organizations attended. Monmouth Chapter attendees were board member LTC (R) Rich Gaudio, Treasurer and Anna Mayer. Participants enjoyed the networking among their professional peers and learning the skill of hatchet throwing at a target. Fall Newsletter 2017

Monmouth County Scholarship Awards Dinner and Service Dog Initiative Presentation August 3, 2017 The 200 Club of Monmouth County held their Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Bar Anticipation, Lake Como, NJ to present scholarship awards to outstanding Monmouth County students. Over 125 attended the event. Monmouth Chapter Corporate Member, Frank Brogna, VFW Post 1333, made arrangements with the 200 Club for the Monmouth Chapter to present a $7,500 donation to Vietnam Veteran Joe Morrison for his service dog Blu as part of its Service Dog Initiative Program. Monmouth Chapter board members in attendance were COL (R) Samuel Fuoco, President; Kit Roache, VP Programs; Ellie Smith, Secretary; LTC (R) Rich Gaudio, Treasurer;and Charles Seal. During this event, Monmouth Chapter representatives were able to meet and discuss our initiatives with NJ LT Governor Kim Guadagno, Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden and NJ Freeholders John P. Curley, Serena DeMaso and Tom Arnone.

AUSA JROTC Medal and Certificate of Achievement Presentation August 4, 2017 The Monmouth Chapter presented the AUSA JROTC Medal and Certificate of Achievement Award to Cadet Grace Heugel during the NJ Naval JROTC Freshman Orientation and Graduation Ceremony at the Colts Neck High School, NJ. Presenting the award were Monmouth Chapter board members COL (R) Samuel Fuoco, President and CSM (R) Jack Chlapowski, VP Education. Following the Ceremony, refreshments were served. NJROTC Academy 2nd Annual Golf Outing and Barbecue August 7, 2017

The Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD) Naval Junior ROTC (NJROTC) Academy of Colts Neck High School, NJ hosted the NJROTC Academy 2nd Annual Golf Outing at the Pebble Creek Golf Club, Colts Neck, NJ. Attendance was 100+ including Monmouth Chapter board members Charles Seal and Terry Madden, NJROTC Senior Naval Science Instructor Major (R) Gregory Penczak USMC, Master of Ceremonies Ms Pergola, NJROTC cadets, event sponsors, and engaged community citizens. The event included a breakfast, golf tournament, BBQ lunch, donation basket raffle, and an awards presentation during which a donation check of $100 was presented to the NJROTC Parents Club from the Monmouth Chapter.

Jonah E. Kelley US Army Reserve Center, Ribbon Cutting Ceremony August 13, 2017 MG Troy Kok, Commanding General, 99th Regional Support Command presided over the official party to conduct the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and tour of the Jonah E. Kelly US Army Reserve Center at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (MDL), NJ. In addition to the official party, there were 35+ attendees including AUSA Dix Chapter President CSM (R) Arthur Maggs and Monmouth Chapter board member Charles Seal. This event culminated the $13.5M full-facility revitalization project that is certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). It is the home for 350+ Soldiers from five US Army Reserve units on 13.6 acres and is comprised of a 71,400 sq ft training center, a 6,400 sq ft storage storage building and a 3,200 sq ft maintenance shop. AUSA William Penn Chapter Membership Luncheon and Tour of the Washington Crossing Historical Park (WCHP) August 15-16, 2017 On 15 Aug 2017, the AUSA William Penn Chapter hosted a WCHP tour at Washington Crossing, PA which followed, on 16 Aug 2017, by a Membership Luncheon at the Spring Mill Manor, Ivyland, PA. The luncheon was a joint effort of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce and the AUSA William Penn Chapter to interest local corporate businesses and individuals to become members of AUSA. The guest speaker was LTG (R) Patricia McQuistion, AUSA VP Membership/Meetings. She presented an overview of AUSA to include its structure, mission and goals with particular emphasis on the value of membership to individuals and corporations. There were 120+ attendees representing local businesses and organizations to include Col (R) Leif Johnson (LTG McQuistion's husband); COL (R) Dennis Dougherty, First Region President; James Donahue, William Penn Chapter President; CSM (R) Arthur Maggs, Dix Chapter President; COL (R) Larry Rubini, PA Army Reserve Ambassador and Charles Seal, Monmouth Chapter board member.

AUSA First Region Training August 26, 2017 COL (R) Samuel Fuoco, Monmouth Chapter President, hosted a "AUSA First Region Training" session at the New Jersey National Guard Training Center, Sea Girt, NJ. Instructors from AUSA's Membership Department were COL (R) John Davies, Senior Director and COL (R) Stanley Crow, Director of Chapter and Region Support & National Guard Affairs. There were 17 participants from 5 AUSA Chapters of the First Region (Monmouth, Dix, Northern NJ, CSM James M. McDonald-Keystone, and William Penn). Training topics included AUSA 101, Chapter Operations Manual, Chapter Annual Plans, Chapter Leader Portal, Chapter Activity Reports, and AUSA's Member Advocacy Program to repeal the Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011. 9/11 Flag Memorial Tribute September 8, 2017 The , Faculty, Students and Military Support Club of Saint John Vianney High School, Monmouth Chapter Corporate Member, hosted the 9/11 Flag Memorial Tribute. Monmouth Chapter President COL (R) Samuel and Frances Fuoco attended with daughter Ms Angela Fuoco-Nicola.

9th Annual “A Toast to Dennis - A Night of Remembrance”

September 8, 2017 AUSA Monmouth Chapter Corporate Members Dennis and Marion Zilinski, Executive Directors of the LT Dennis W. Zilinski, II Memorial Fund, hosted the 9th Annual “A Toast to Dennis - A night of Remembrance” fundraiser. First LT Dennis W. Zilinski, II died on November 19, 2005 during combat operations while serving with the 101st Airborne in . In attendance were 325+ including Monmouth Chapter board members COL (R) Samuel and Frances Fuoco, President and LTC (R) Richard and Laurel Gaudio, Treasurer. The Monmouth Chapter provided $1,100 in sponsorship, advertising and event tickets. Event benefits went to providing Service Dogs to Wounded Warriors. Fall Newsletter 2017

8th Annual Dining Out of the 77th Sustainment September 9, 2017 The 77th Sustainment Brigade hosted its 8th Annual Dining Out event in commemoration of the 77th Division's Activation in 1917. The 77th Sustainment Brigade inherited the lineage of the 77th Infantry Division ("Statue of Liberty" Division) which served in and World War II. It is currently part of the U.S. Army Reserve and headquartered at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), NJ and physically located on Dix. The Guest Speaker was Author and Historian, Robert John Laplander, author of "Finding the Lost ". There were 100+ attendees including Monmouth Chapter President COL (R) Samuel and Frances Fuoco, and Dix Chapter President CSM (R) Arthur Maggs. The Monmouth Chapter donated $70.

Fulfill Facility Tour and Meeting September 15, 2017 Fulfill (formerly FoodBank) of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, NJ hosted a Facility Tour and Meeting in Neptune, NJ. Fulfill’s mission is to alleviate hunger and build food security in Monmouth & Ocean Counties and to make sure that all people at all times have access to enough nutritious food to maintain an active and healthy life. Monmouth Chapter President COL (R) Samuel and Frances Fuoco and board members Yvonne Bova and Charles Seal met with Fulfill Director of Organizational Effectiveness David Goldstein, Executive Administrator Joyce Caggiano and Executive Director Carlos Rodriguez. Discussed were the mission of both organizations and mutual support opportunities.

Family Day for the 404th Civil Affairs Battalion, Airborne September 17, 2017 AUSA Monmouth Chapter President COL (R) Samuel Fuoco and Dix Chapter President CSM (R) Arthur Maggs attended Family Day for the 404th Civil Affairs Battalion, Airborne held at the John Mann Pavilion and Recreation Area on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ. Over 125 Soldiers, family members and guests attended the event. COL (R) Samuel Fuoco presented a $150 donation to , LTC Antonio Martinez and CSM Anthony Ciotti. Fall Newsletter 2017

"Starlight for Veterans Program" and Information Seminar September 21, 2017 The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office hosted the "Starlight for Veterans Program" and Information Seminar at the Monmouth University Rebecca Stafford Student Center, West Long Branch, NJ. Representatives from 10-15 local Monmouth County Civic and Military Services/Support Organizations attended with display/information tables. Monmouth Chapter President COL (R) Samuel Fuoco chaired the Monmouth Chapter table that displayed AUSA brochures, newsletters, membership applications and give-away items. Five new membership applications were initiated.

New Jersey Run for the Fallen, Hero Marker 435, MG Harold J. Greene September 24, 2017 Monmouth Chapter board members Kit Roache, VP Programs and Ellie Smith, Secretary setup a refreshment table with sandwiches, apple juice, water and cookies for the NJ Run for the Fallen participants at Hero Marker 435 in Oceanport, NJ to honor MG Harold J. Greene, killed in on Sep 05 2014 while conducting an inspection tour. MG Greene was the Deputy Commanding General of the Combined Security Transition Command, Afghanistan. Kit Roache accepted the flag on behalf of Mrs. Susan Greene who was unable to attend. Other board members present were CSM (R) Jack Chlapowski, VP Education; COL (R) John Booth and Jan Moren as well as Association of Old Crows (AOC) Board Member Mari Kovach. The presentation was made at Hero Marker 420, Belmar, NJ. Similarly, at Hero Marker 427, Deal, NJ, Jan Moren, Monmouth Chapter Board Member, presented an “Honor and Remember” Flag and Certificate to the Family Members of SGT Richard A. Cummings, Jr, US Marine Corps who died on July 08, 2012 while serving at the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ.

High School Girls Soccer Team "Served those who Served" September 26, 2017 The Girls Soccer Team of Saint John Vianney High School (SJVHS), a Monmouth Chapter Corporate Member, went on a "Served those who Served" field trip to the NJ Veterans Memorial Home-Menlo Park, also a Monmouth Chapter Corporate Member. These Catholic Athletes for Christ (CAC), along with two faculty members, spent the day transporting residents to and from activities, assisting the staff in daily activities and bowling with the residents. In addition, they were “there for the residents” treating them with dignity, respect and love while brightening their day. The SJVHS CAC Field Trip was moderated by Monmouth Chapter President COL (R) Samuel Fuoco, Assistant Soccer Coach Robert Klatt and Assistant Athletic Director Pat Smith.
