Mysteel Business Visit to Shandong Mining/Steel Enterprises in March, 2016 MYSTEEL Service Mysteel Business Visit to Shandong Mining/Steel Enterprises in March, 2016 The year 2016 may witness the gradual process of capacity elimination of Chinese mining companies and steel producers. What impact will the “Thirteenth Five-year Plan” of 200 Mt elimination of crude steel capacity have on the market? Whether miners will recover as normal in the coming spring? Whether the high season for steel products sales in March and April will probably re-occur? Mysteel selects Shandong-based miners and steel mills in March as the first stopover in 2016 for China business visits. This visit is aimed to firstly, inquire into manufacturing conditions of marginal steel mills whose pig iron producing costs are at medium & high levels; secondly, understand the impact of producing costs and steel sales on steel mills` living conditions; thirdly, give clearer picture of steel mills` developing trends in 2016; in the meantime, discuss the peak time of miners` production resumption at the beginning of 2016, and what changes will befall the weak bounded relationship between steel mills and its affiliated miners; last but not least pay attention to whether living miners could have further cost cuts. Mysteel hopes this business visit will provide you with a good opportunity to visit the local miners and mills. We are looking forward to making an appointment with you in Shandong on Mar.7-9, 2016! Date: Mar 7-9 2016 Shandong, China Attendee Number: 10 Highlights Production status of Shandong miners in early 2016. Will the demand from Shandong mills support the local miners to survive? Production plans and transportation conditions of Chinese marginal steel mills. Cost saving methods of Shandong miners and steel mills. Current iron ore & steel export situation in Shandong. • Dialogue Issue 4
Newsletter of The Dui Hua Foundation THE DUI HUA DD II AA LL OO GG UU EE FOUNDATION Summer 2001/Issue 4 Despite Chill in U.S.-China Relations, Unofficial Dialogue on Rights Forges Ahead 中 Dialogue between China and the United States on human rights, be it official or un- official, has always been affected by the overall political climate between the two countries. The last official session of the US-China dialogue took place in January 1999, and was suspended by the Chinese government in response to the bombing of the Chinese Embassy by NATO warplanes in May, 1999. The official dialogue has, as this issue of Dialogue comes out, yet to be resumed, though there are signs that preliminary talks on what a new dialogue on human rights would look like and what it might realistically achieve are underway between the two governments. 美 The Dui Hua Foundation’s unofficial dialogue with the Chinese government on national security prisoners has often been knocked off course by the twists and turns of relations between Beijing and Washington. Given the bad start to US-China relations during the first three months of President Bush’s tenure, it was widely expected that cooperation between the foundation and its Chinese interlocutors would once again be curtailed. 对 In the event, the unofficial dialogue went forward. During the first five months of the new administration, Dui Hua’s Executive Director John Kamm made two visits to Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese government (March 4-8 and June 10-14, 2001).

FLATH Introduction For most people, the written texts of history are only pale reflections of the history they see in their everyday surroundings. An ancient building, a local museum, a statue in a park, or even a notable landscape can carry historical narratives in ways that are more immediate and lasting than any well-re- searched discourse on history. Yet these publicly accessible historical represen- tations are also highly selective in the subjects they portray. Visitors often leave with little more than an impression of the event, person, or place represented by the site, and perhaps a souvenir or T-shirt as evidence of their historical experience. So although the historical site is a poor representation of the actual past, the immediacy and stature of historical monuments and museums imbue them with a strong capacity to configure history in the present. This discussion considers how the past informs the present through the preserved and monumentally represented remains of provincial Chinese history. China, as we are frequently reminded, has the world’s longest continu- ous history and probably the greatest number of historical sites.
