    419 ” Martin Kragh är ett demokratiskt problem” Hur Aftonbladet gav spridning åt en rysk påverkansoperation Martin Kragh Abstract On 7 February 2019 the largest evening paper in the Nordic countries, Aftonbladet, published an article on the scholar Martin Kragh, head of the Russia and Eurasia Programme at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs in Stockholm and researcher at Uppsala University. Kragh, according to Aftonbladet, was allegedly working for “a covert state intelligence organization in Great Britain,” and he should therefore be investigated “by Swedish media and the security police.” The problem with Aftonbladet’s claims is that they are false, and that they with a high degree of confidence had their origin in a Russian influence operation against the British think tank Institute for Statecraft. Using quantitative and qualitative method, this article analyses the origins and diffusion of the campaign internationally and in Sweden as an informational cascade. Inledning Den 7 februari 2019 publicerar Aftonbladet, Nordens största kvällstidning, en artikel om Martin Kragh, chef för Rysslands- och Eurasienprogrammet vid Utrikespolitiska institutet i Stockholm och forskare vid Institutet för Rysslands- och Eurasienstudier vid Uppsala universitet. Kragh, påstår Aftonbladet, har visat sig arbeta för ”en hemlig, statlig säkerhetsorganisation i Storbritannien”, och han borde därför utredas ”av svenska medier och säkerhetspolis” (Aftonbladet 2019a). Argumentationen följs upp den 12 februari, där det hävdas att ”enligt läckta dokument som brittisk press tar på allvar, misstänks Kragh arbeta för främmande makt, närmare bestämt den brittiska underrättelsetjänsten”, och Martin Kragh är docent i ekonomisk historia, forskare vid Institutet för Rysslands- och Eurasienstudier vid Uppsala universitet och chef för Rysslands- och Eurasienprogrammet vid Utrikespolitiska institutet.

Via Twitter geben Angela Merkels Außenminister Heiko Maas und Innenminister Horst Seehofer den Takt bei der „Weißhelmfrage“ vor (1, 2): „BM #Seehofer zur Aufnahme von acht #Weißhelmen und ihrer Familien in #Deutschland: ‚Ihnen Schutz zu gewähren ist für mich eine humanitäre Verpflichtung und Ausdruck meiner Politik, für Humanität und Ordnung in der Migrationspolitik zu sorgen.‘ @BMI_Bund @AuswaertigesAmt.“ „AM @heikomaas zur Evakuierung der #Weißhelme: ‚Der Einsatz der Weißhelme verdient Bewunderung und Respekt. Es ist ein Gebot der Menschlichkeit, dass viele der mutigen Ersthelfer Schutz und Zuflucht finden, einige davon auch in Deutschland.‘“ Propaganda für Idioten Die White Helmets in Syrien wurden 2013 vom Westen gegründet, werden mit über 100 Millionen Euro finanziert und liefern vornehmlich an ein westliches Publikum gerichtetes Propagandamaterial zum Syrienkrieg (3).

The article has been translated by Marcello Ferrada de Noli, Swedish professor emeritus of epidemiology and doctor of psychiatry. Anne Ramberg reveals her concern over the breech of legal principles, the treatment of Assange in general and the moral obligation to reveal wrongdoing, just as Julian Assange has done. My knowledge about this matter, now an almost unique one, is not entirely in-depth. It is a matter featured by everything from prodigal conspiracy theories deprived of any reality support, to a deplorable legal handling from both Swedish and British side. The right to a fair trial within a reasonable time is established both in the Swedish legal system [Regeringsformen, 2 kap. 11 § andra stycket 1) and in the European Convention (Article 6). This legal right also applies during the preliminary investigation stage. To this has to be added the so-labelled presumption of innocence. It may well be questioned whether the result of the Swedish managing [of the case] was done in accordance with the principle of proportionality. I have previously stated that I find it remarkable that the Prosecutor did not implement the preliminary investigation forward at the pace and with the care one could have demanded.

This is my opinion, which I addressed to journalist Anna Khalitova of the newspaper “Izvestia”: Donald Trump has proven being mistaken about some important issues. The last missile attack he ordered against Syria in retaliation of an unclear (to say the least) event, is the latest of such mistakes in the geopolitical scenario. It is about an alleged gas-attack attributed to the Syrian forces, and where –to the best of my knowledge– no substantial evidence has been put forward. The risk being that, about this particular item, history might end placing President Trump in the same box as Bush’s “weapons of mass destruction”. But Donald Trump was indeed right about Sweden. Weeks ago he predicted that Sweden would naturally follow the fate of Germany or Belgium, as a target of terrorism. At that time, PM Stefan Löfven, and with him Sweden’s political elite in full choir, made yet another laugh of Trump and also absolutely denied that calm in the ‘Swedish paradise’ (the elite’s paradise) was threatened. The last attack of today in Stockholm was instead totally expected. And, as being in its operational form just one more repetition of a seemingly standard jihadist-terrorist act (Nice, London, etc.), others of that kind are unfortunately to be expected.

The paper does not discuss the biological naturalness of death and lesser this naturalness of the “on time” or untimely death. But the problem of untimely death, only occasioned by the present pandemic, is deconstructed starting from its veiling by the ideology of the “inherent” death of the old in the absence of ventilators and intensive care beds. To this ideology, Kant’s theory of categorical imperative and Aristotle’s concepts of potentiality and actuality are counter-posed. In front of the ideology that justifies the differentials of the importance of life – actually, somehow deduced from / related to Heidegger’s theory about death as fundamental source of the meaning of life – the theory about the contents of life as source of its meanings, and the logic of universalizable values are demonstrated. These universalizable values are clearer during exceptional situations. The example is that of a different confinement: the blockade of Leningrad (September 1941-January 1944) shows what kind of stimuli of the human life are just human (deployment of reason, questioning of the telos of things and especially of the human life) and what the universalizable teloi meant for the resistance of inhabitants. The difference between the untimely death caused by natural catastrophes and illnesses and, on the other hand, those, preventable, generated by social relations, is followed by the analysis of the inner criterion of untimely death and the attitudes towards untimely deaths and the reduction of life.
