His honours research focused on diabetic retinopathy detection, and he has a particular interest in data mining and artificial intelligence. During his studies he made significant contributions to WEKA software development and received several awards and scholarships, including two Dean’s Awards for Excellence, a Waikato Taught Postgraduate Fees scholarship and a 2degrees ICT scholarship.
