• The State of the ERP 2Nd Edition | September 2020 | Trenegy Incorporated the Modern ERP
The State of the ERP 2nd Edition | September 2020 | Trenegy Incorporated The Modern ERP Widespread use and development of the ERP as we know it today—a multi-functional, integrated, company-wide system of record—boomed in the 1990s. Since then, many companies have kept those same base systems, simply upgrading, patching, and bolting on more capabilities. Today, nearly 25 years later, organizations are finding ERPs have advanced to such a degree that patches and bolt-ons may no longer be enough. After all this time, their systems have been so customized they can no longer be supported or upgraded to house modern tools. ERP systems have evolved, and the industry is nearing maturity. 2020 will see the full development of once cutting-edge technologies, increased demand for integrated, real-time data transmission, and automated compliance capabilities. Technology Jargon Technology is rapidly advancing and changing how businesses operate. Incorporating advanced technology within an ERP is a trend for many ERP providers. Below are explanations of the jargon ERP vendors use along with 2019 trends. Artificial Intelligence (AI) AI was, at one time, arguably the most disruptive concept on the planet. Today, it is accepted and working its way into the ERP space. Whether companies are using it to identify unique customer characteristics, simplify system functionality, or improve production utilization, AI in ERP has potential. Larger companies like SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft are exploring this space, but revolutionary AI breakthroughs for the ERP are likely several years away. Business Intelligence (BI) BI is where the most applicable, current use of AI capabilities is seen in ERPs.

This can lead to problems such as limited financial reporting, lack of readily accessible management infor mation, lower levels of vendor compliance, and unauthorized spending. There are e-procurement solutions that can address these issues, but most of these tend to be expensive, complex, require technical expertise to install and maintain, and are usually oriented towards larger firms. The purpose of this study was to examine the barriers perceived by Canadian SMEs to e-procurement. A total of 5 3 companies responded to the questionnaire in a survey distributed primarily by e mail during June and July 2003. Findings fromthe survey indicate that e-procurement in Cana dian SMEs has a slow acceptance rate compared to other Internet-based solutions. Major find ings were that many companies were not familiarwith e-procurement solutions, and almost half indicated they would not be considering such solutions within the next three years.

  • Networks and Multi-Party Solutions for Supply Chain— Understanding the Landscape
Networks and Multi-party Solutions for Supply Chain— Understanding the Landscape ___________________________________________________________________ Part Two Ann Grackin - ChainLink Research 2019 1 ChainLink Research – 2019 All Rights Reserved No part of this document can be reproduced without the permissions of the authors. Selecting a Partner One of the greatest responsibilities the supply chain manager can have is selecting the right technology partner. The platitude that “we live in the information age” hides the fact that many companies still don’t understand the various architectural approaches and can select the appropriate technology for their needs. The supply chain market is awash with tech companies and lots of market buzz. However, peering behind the curtain is tough and, frankly, requires a skilled eye. One can develop such an eye, but it requires spending time and exercising due diligence to make an informed choice. In supply chain networks, not all players’ underlying architecture works the same. So although some companies have large asset bases (lots of software modules and lots of network members), it does not follow that your problem will be solved by their inventory of software.1 That is why, at ChainLink, we do not arbitrarily rate providers. Rather, we provide our subscribers a differentiated view of what these players do and how they do it.2 Before you put a huge chunk of your capital—and, most importantly, your business success—in the hands of one of these players, take the time to understand the appropriate solution for your problem. This is Part Two of a two-part report. In Part One, we defined some of the nuanced approaches of supply chain networks.
