Football Club Years Of
125YEARS OF Cork Constitution FOOTBALL CLUB Edmund Van Esbeck Published by Cork Constitution Football Club, Temple Hill, Cork. Tel: 021 4292 563 i Cork Constitution Football Club wishes to sincerely thank the author, Edmund Van Esbeck and gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the following in the publication of this book: PHOTOGRAPHS Irish Examiner Archieve Sportsfile Photography Inpho Photography Colin Watson Photographey,Montreal, Canada John Sheehan Photography KR Events Martin O’Brien The Framemaker Club Members © Copyright held by suppliers of photographs GRAPHIC DESIGN Nutshell Creative Communication PRINTER Watermans Printers, Little Island, Co. Cork. ii AUTHORS NOTE & ACKNOWLEDGEMENT When the Cork Constitution Club celebrated the centenary of its foundation I had the privilege of writing the history. Now I have been entrusted with updating that chronicle. While obviously the emphasis will be on the events of the last twenty-five years - the most momentous period in the history of rugby union - as a tribute to the founding fathers, the first chapter of the original history will yet again appear. While it would not be practical to include a detailed history of the first 100 years chapter two is a brief resume of the achievements of the first fifty years and likewise chapter three embraces the significant events of the second fifty years in the illustrious history of one of Ireland’s great sporting institutions. There follows the detailed history and achievements, and they were considerable, of the last twenty five years. I owe a considerable debt of gratitude to many people for their help during the compilation of this book. In that regard I would particularly like to thank Noel Walsh, the man with whom I liaised during the writing of the book. -

The first club outside Ulster was Dublin Association Football Club which was formed in 1883. At the time, the Irish Football Association (IFA) was the governing body. Based in Belfast, it found it difficult to promote football throughout the country. This led to the formation of the Leinster Football Association in 1892 as the game became more popular in the area. However, there was always a feeling among clubs from outside the Belfast area that the IFA favoured Ulster based clubs-especially when selecting sides for international matches. Despite this, it was not until after the 1916 Rising and the rise of Nationalism that southern affiliates, such as the Leinster FA, took an aggressive approach in their dealings with the IFA. The clubs often threatened to break away, and in early 1921, Bohemians, St. James's Gate and Shelbourne all withdrew from the Irish League, though all three sides decided to remain involved in Cup competitions. -

A New Era for Irish Greyhound Racing Driven Forward by Dublin Coach
Media Announcement: For Release 1pm Tuesday August 26th A New Era for Irish Greyhound Racing driven forward by Dublin Coach The Irish Greyhound Board Announces a 5 year Sponsorship Programme with Dublin Coach - Ireland`s premier transport provider. - Dublin Coach also revealed as Sponsor of the Harold`s Cross Puppy Derby Tuesday August 26 th , Harold`s Cross Greyhound - Authentic, unique, legendary, heritage - a series of key search words that act as essential motivators for tourists worldwide when choosing a holiday destination. As a nation, Ireland has indeed so many experiences that fit these criteria but perhaps none so much as the sport of Grey hound racing. For almost a century, Greyhound racing has been intrinsic to Irish Culture. Since the first race on April 18 th 1927, the sport has evolved to become a staple of modern Ireland, transcending generations and indeed boundaries both nationally and internationally. For the pure greyhound enthusiast – it is not only a sport, it is a way of life. The great voice of Irish sport, Michael Ó Muircheartaigh stated “There are great people involved in greyhounds, that’s what I love most. In my working life I would have been 80 per cent horses and 20 per cent greyhounds and the difference between both sports is massive. “The people you meet and the people you deal with at the greyhounds are so down to earth” The key to the ongoing survival of the sport is the ability to connect on an ongoing basis with present and potential consumer. Today, at Harold`s Cross Greyhound Stadium, another milestone in the heritage of Irish Greyhound Racing was reached as the IGB revealed their latest Sponsorship deal. -
