Yet, he said that there is a way to enhance that communi- ty spirit that he has seen. “If everyone would take seven houses around them, and support them, and love them, then the world would be good,” he said. He noted that to be a Muslim, you must believe in Jesus and the Bible. “And if you don’t want to love me, I will still love you,” Terou said. “We can talk and get connected and if we get together, we can all be better.” Terou did say that media reports out of Syria, and about Muslims, is not completely correct, as the media there “tells you what to do.” “But you don’t need to do what the media tells you ... to do, but do what Jesus would do, and that is love everyone,” he added. “It is much different here, and I want to say how much I Banner photo, ALLEN MINCEY appreciate the local media and SYRIAN REFUGEE, YASSIN TEROU, speaks Sunday during a their support of me and my “Theology on Tap” presentation at Bonlife Coffee. Gamecocks headed to 1st Final Four

NEW YORK (AP) — South Carolina added a missing piece to its rich basketball history. The school of Frank McGuire, Kevin Joyce, Brian Winters, Mike Dunleavy and Alex English is going to the Final Four for the first time. Add the names Sindarius Thornwell and Frank Martin to the top of the list. Thornwell’s 26 points and the Gamecocks’ swarming zone defense meant a 77-70 victory over Florida on Sunday and a berth in the Final Four. Martin, he of the booming voice and terrifying faces, led the seventh-seeded Gamecocks to the biggest victory in school his- tory and now they will face Gonzaga, the No. 1 seed from the West Regional, in the Final Four on Saturday at Glendale, Arizona. “Anyone that’s in sports dreams of moments like this,” said Martin, who was doused with water and dancing as soon as he entered the locker room. “It’s not something that you start dreaming it the year you win 25 games. You dream it every single day.” The game was as close as expected until the final minute. There were 14 lead changes and 10 ties. The last lead change came on two free throws by Thornwell with 2:24 left that made it 65-63. Fourth-seeded Florida managed just three field goals over the final 3:55. Thornwell, the regional MVP, followed the deciding free throws with a nice assist to Maik Kotsar for a 4-point lead. It seemed Thornwell, who scored eight straight points for the Gamecocks, was always where he needed to be including mak- ing a steal with 40 seconds left that turned into a 73-68 lead. “Plays needed to be made down the stretch and I stepped up and made plays,” Thornwell said. Teammate Duane Notice knew Thornwell would come through. “He’s capable of doing any- thing on both sides of the bas- ketball. ear Mr. President, let me take you back to 1979. I don't know what you were building or doing then, but D my father was running for president and the political left and their loyal snipers in the dominant media were shooting at him daily. "Ronald Reagan was an empty suit ... a B-grade actor ... a dan- gerous warmonger." They said if he got his hands on the nuclear codes he was going to start World War III. And if the mullahs in Teheran didn't release the American hostages, he was going to turn Iran into a parking lot or a glass factory. Mr. President, you have it even tougher with the liberal media today, but at least you can fight back with Twitter and you've got friends in talk radio, on Fox and all over the internet. STUDENT STORIES

Skyler Stone Reflecting on the good

Editor’s note: This is part of a weekly series of columns written by students at Cleveland Middle School. As a student, I have been through countless classmates, teachers, and a few principals. However, they are quickly put under two simple categories in my mind: good and bad. Which leads to the question, "What makes a good student, teacher or principal?" Whenever I am faced with this question, I go through every situation in my mind to Contributed photo determine the answer. STUDENTS FROM Mrs. Leia Talley’s health science class spent their Raider Outreach day at A good student, in my opinion, Signature Healthcare. They helped change beds, take lunch orders, serve drinks, stock linen carts and has many different traits. They can be responsible, creative, aid with occupational therapy and physical therapy. The group also worked with the residents on a fun respectful, determined, and they craft activity. can love to learn. Of course, what makes a good student varies, because we are all different. For instance, a classmate can be more on the creative side while another loves to learn more than anything else. I believe that a characteristic all good students Contributed photo share is that they are determined. My best teachers have some of the same traits in common. Everybody's opinion is different, but these teachers seemed to have captured the hearts of every- body. They can be described as creative, fun, loving to teach, kind, positive, but strict. The teachers who don’t allow their students to get away with any- thing, teaching them to be good citizens, but are nice, have been the most amazing teachers I've been the student of. As for my own experiences, no offense meant to others, but I believe that the teacher I have had who best demonstrated these qualities is my third-grade teacher, Mrs. Brown. I remember that she was super fun and had endless games for us to play in order to learn things. Me being somebody who learns better by Contributed photo interaction, I can easily say I kept MRS. As well as students and teach- ers, there are also opinions about principals. Positivity, persever- ance, kindness, strictness, and willingness to do what is right can describe a good one. I have never come across a bad principal myself, but I am sure many have. The most popular answers that apply to students is that they are working hard, trying again when they don’t succeed, asking ques- tions, and that they pay attention and are a leader to their class- mates. For teachers, being patient, try- ing their hardest, helping, and knowing what method is going to be successful seem to be key. And last but not least, princi- pals, who are natural leaders. They get the job done and give consequences to students for their actions, but are not too hard on them. They explain situations to students and reward the good as well. Either way, I advise everybody, despite what they might be, to always try to be better than them- Contributed photos selves every day.
