The AT&T contracts with programmers for the content displayed on U-verse TV service periodically expire, or may be terminated, but are usually re-negotiated or extended with no interruption or change for our U-verse members. Additionally, from time to time it is necessary to change channel line-ups as well as television package contents. The programming changes set forth below may occur as follows: July 2019 As previously noticed, the AT&T contract with the programmer for the following channels is set to expire. While these channels will continue to be available to U-verse members so long as AT&T has the rights to carry them, if a reasonable agreement cannot be reached with the programmer the programming will no longer be available. AT&T may modify the channel location for the programming by moving them from their current channel location to a channel between 9501 – 9599, and if a reasonable longer term agreement cannot be reached with the programmers, we may lose the rights to carry them (listed in alphabetical order) on or after July 2019: Family Entertainment TV (channel 578); EVINE Live and EVINE Live in HD; Heroes & Icons (channel 137 and 1137 in HD); MBC America (channel 3643); MeTV (channel 23, 136 and 1023 and 1136 in HD). As well as the following: 1) Atlanta, GA area, WUPA (channel 69 and 1069 in HD); 2) August, GA area, WJBF (channel 6 and 1006 in HD); 3) Austin, TX area, KXAN (channel 4 and 1004 in HD), KBVO (channel 7 and 1007 in HD), KNVA (channel 12 and 1012 in HD); 4) Bakersfi eld, CA area, KKEY (channel 11 and 3007 in HD), -

Vertically integrated behemoths like Netflix and Amazon continue to grow with no end in sight. Despite this, we believe there is a place in the media ecosystem for traditional terrestrial broadcast companies. SUMMARY AND OPINION We view the broadcasters as attractive investments. We believe there is the potential for consolidation. On April 20, 2017, the FCC reinstated the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) discount giving broadcasters with UHF stations the ability to add stations without running afoul of the National Ownership Cap. More importantly, the current 39% ownership cap is under review at the FCC. Given the ubiquitous presence of the internet which foster an excess of video options and media voices, we believe the current ownership cap could be viewed as antiquated. Should the FCC substantially change the ownership cap, we would expect consolidation to accelerate. Broadcast consolidation would have the opportunity to deliver substantial synergies to the industry. We would expect both cost reductions and revenue growth, primarily in the form of increased retransmission revenue, to benefit the broadcast stations and networks. -
2012 NABJ Diversity Census an Examination of Television Newsroom Management
2012 2012 NABJ Diversity Census An examination of Television Newsroom Management By Bob Butler National Association of Black Journalists PREFACE Five years ago, in the absence of any information, NABJ set out to research and report the true state of newsroom management diversity. The result was the Television Newsroom Management Diversity Census. Many have now come to depend on this important document to determine the true health and viability of diversity within today’s newsrooms. The report is not only for the public and those who work in the industry, but also corporations and employers who are charged with assessing the realities of these circumstances. The 2012 Television Newsroom Management Diversity Census is comprised of two reports. The first report studies the diversity of news managers at 295 stations owned by different 19 companies. There are more than 700 such stations nationwide and it is our intent to eventually document every television newsroom in the country. The second report examines the diversity of newsroom managers and executives at broadcast and cable news networks. Unlike the local station, which broadcast to their respective markets, the networks provide news to the entire country. You may notice that ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC are mentioned in both reports. These networks own 51 stations that were included in the stations report. The information within the local station report is not included nor factored into the national news networks report. The demographic data retrieved is inspired by Section 257 of the amended Communications Act of 1934, which requires the FCC to “identify and eliminate, through regulatory action, market entry barriers for entrepreneurs and other small businesses in the provision and ownership of telecommunications and information services.” NABJ is the only source in the country that collects employment census data, which is a critical component in determining if those barriers exist. -
List of Directv Channels (United States)
List of DirecTV channels (United States) Below is a numerical representation of the current DirecTV national channel lineup in the United States. Some channels have both east and west feeds, airing the same programming with a three-hour delay on the latter feed, creating a backup for those who missed their shows. The three-hour delay also represents the time zone difference between Eastern (UTC -5/-4) and Pacific (UTC -8/-7). All channels are the East Coast feed if not specified. High definition Most high-definition (HDTV) and foreign-language channels may require a certain satellite dish or set-top box. Additionally, the same channel number is listed for both the standard-definition (SD) channel and the high-definition (HD) channel, such as 202 for both CNN and CNN HD. DirecTV HD receivers can tune to each channel separately. This is required since programming may be different on the SD and HD versions of the channels; while at times the programming may be simulcast with the same programming on both SD and HD channels. Part time regional sports networks and out of market sports packages will be listed as ###-1. Older MPEG-2 HD receivers will no longer receive the HD programming. Special channels In addition to the channels listed below, DirecTV occasionally uses temporary channels for various purposes, such as emergency updates (e.g. Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike information in September 2008, and Hurricane Irene in August 2011), and news of legislation that could affect subscribers. The News Mix channels (102 and 352) have special versions during special events such as the 2008 United States Presidential Election night coverage and during the Inauguration of Barack Obama. -

How Locally-Produced Programs Are Proving Powerful for Stations
How Locally-Produced Programs Are Proving Powerful for Stations 10.27.2015 Most local television stations are stretched thin covering area news and events. Many produce morning shows, but some stations are going further by developing original programs. This week, Graham Media Group's WJXT Jacksonville, Florida launched River City Live, an hour-long lifestyle and entertainment show broadcasting live each weekday from Unity Plaza. And earlier this year, Nexstar's WTVO/WQRF Rockford, Illinois launched Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl, and quickly renewed it for three more seasons. One company pushing stations to create original shows is Media General, which recently hired Tony Optican as its first head of programming and tasked him with expanding the company's original content across all platforms. But even before he arrived, a few Media General stations had already delved into original programming Last fall, WDTN/WBDT Dayton, Ohio, launched The Valley, a reality show following several local 18- to 24-year olds navigating life after high school and dealing with issues such as bullying, eating disorders, and underage drinking. When WDTN/WBDT's creative services director Steve Bailey conceived The Valley, -- which airs on WBDT, a CW affiliate -- he viewed it as digital content, not on-air programming. "I was looking for a way to generate excitement outside of our CW Star content that would get a lot of eyeballs to our website," Bailey says. "When I pitched the idea to our general manager and our corporate team, they were really into the idea and that it was going to be digital, but once they saw a sizzle reel they were thrilled with what they were seeing and the quality of the product and slotted it to air Saturday nights at 10:30 on our local CW station. -
43 Annual NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA EMMY® AWARD NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
rd 43 Northern California Area Emmy® Awards 2013-2014 Updated 5/9/14 SAN FRANCISCO/NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAPTER rd 43 Annual NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA EMMY® AWARD NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED tf The 43 Annual Northern California Area EMMY® Award Nominations were announced th Wednesday, May 7 at noon on the internet. The EMMY® award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). San Francisco/ Northern California is one of the twenty chapters awarding regional Emmy® statuettes. Northern California is composed of media companies and individuals from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada. Entries were aired during the 2013 calendar year. This year 659 English and 101 Spanish entries were received in 63 categories. English and Spanish language entries were judged and scored separately. A minimum of five peer judges from other NATAS chapters scored each entry on a scale from 1 to 10 on Content, Creativity and Execution. (Craft categories were judged on Creativity and Execution only). The total score is divided by the number of judges. The mean score is sorted from highest to lowest in each category. The Chapter Awards Committee looks at blind scores (not knowing the category) and decides on the cut off number for nominations and recipients. The results are tabulated by our accounting firm Spalding and Company. KNTV NBC Bay Area received the highest number of nominations with 40 followed by Comcast SportsNet with 28. KUVS Univision19 topped the Spanish contest with 30 nominations. In the individual nomination count all the leaders were from KNTV NBC Bay Area: Mark Villarrela with seven; Jeremy Carroll, Felipe Escamilla and Tony Kovaleski each had six. -
