NEWS) TO CO-HOST THE 2011 MISS USA® PAGEANT ON NBC SUNDAY, JUNE 19 Kelly Osbourne joins co-hosts for skybox color commentary throughout the LIVE telecast New York, NY – June 8, 2011 – NBC, Donald J. Trump and Paula M. Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, announced today that Andy Cohen, host of Bravo’s “Watch What Happens: Live,” and Giuliana Rancic, co-anchor of “E! News,” will host the “2011 Miss USA® Pageant” live from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on June 19 (9 p.m. ET) on NBC. Joining them will be one of the hosts of E!’s “Fashion Police,” Kelly Osbourne, who will provide skybox color commentary throughout the LIVE telecast. “It’s our 60th Anniversary, and what better way to add excitement to our show than with two of the most glamorous hosts on TV - Andy and Giuliana,” said Paula Shugart. “Kelly’s backstage commentary will surely take the energy of the show to another level!” Andy Cohen is the host and executive producer of “Watch What Happens: Live," Bravo’s late night, interactive talk show that features guests from some of Bravo's most popular series, as well as from the world of entertainment, politics and pop culture. He is also the executive vice president of original programming and development for Bravo where he oversees the development and production of more than two dozen shows such as “Top Chef,” “The Real Housewives” franchises and “The Millionaire Matchmaker.” Giuliana Rancic is a co-anchor of “E! News” and host of E!’s hugely popular “Fashion Police.” She is also the executive producer/star of her hit Style Network reality show, “Giuliana & Bill.” Rancic can also be seen co-hosting red carpet events such as the Golden Globes. Kelly Osbourne made a name for herself in television, radio, musical theatre and fashion following the Emmy Award-winning “The Osbournes.” The daughter of rocker Ozzy Osbourne and TV personality Sharon Osbourne, Kelly is currently one of the hosts of E!’s “Fashion Police.” She also penned a style book titled “Fierce,” giving fans her top style tips. Osbourne will next be seen in the upcoming Weinstein Company's "So Undercover" starring alongside Miley Cyrus. Throughout the Miss USA competition, each contestant representing the 50 United States and the District of Columbia competes in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview. Worldwide distribution of the competition now reaches approximately 90 countries and territories. Miss USA 2010, Rima Fakih, will crown her successor at the conclusion of the live telecast. Fakih broke many barriers throughout her reign as the first Arab American and Muslim to be crowned Miss USA. During her tenure, Fakih traveled the globe as an advocate for cultural awareness and tolerance. The next Miss USA 2011 will work throughout her reign to heighten awareness for breast and ovarian cancer, the official cause of the organization.     ajiss 27-3-=stripped-obay.qxp 8/24/2010 10:48 AM Page 131 Forum Miss USA 2010, Muslim American Cyber-Discourse, and the Question of Exhaustion Janan Delgado On 16 May 2010, NBC Universal and Donald Trump gave the Muslim American community its first Muslim Miss USA.1 Upon finding out the basics – Rima Fakih is of Lebanese Shi`ite origin and represented Michigan at the beauty pageant – many began to wonder what the appropriate response should be: a “Thank you, Mr. Trump” and befitting celebrations, a “No thank you, Mr. Trump” and its share of condemnation, or an ambiva- lent “something in between.” In this essay I discuss some of the considera- tions that made the third option a highly favored one among young voices on the Muslim American blogosphere. I argue that their articulation of this position shows significant trends in the development of a young Muslim American cyber-discourse, and that these trends cannot be fully understood without paying due attention to a shared sense of exhaustion among young Muslim Americans today. A first striking trend about the debates sparked by Fakih’s victory was how Muslim bloggers and writers treated Fakih herself, and particularly her choice to participate in the event, as completely peripheral to the discussion. Not only were they 2 decidedly uninterested in discussing the legitimacy or Janan Delgado is a graduate student from New York University’s Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern and Islamic Studies.     RIMA FAKIH MISS USA 2010 Rima Fakih’s road to becoming Miss USA began when she sold her car to support her childhood dream to enter the Miss Michigan USA pageant. Fakih won the state title and, on May 16, 2010 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 25-year-old made history as the first ever Arab American and Muslim to win the crown. Fakih was born in Sour, Lebanon and immigrated to Queens, New York in 1993. She graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School in 2003 at the age of 17. After graduation, Fakih moved to Dearborn, Michigan and began a mentoring program to provide children with caring adult role models. Fakih continued to give back to her community while attending the University of Michigan, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, with a minor in Business Administration. Active in campus life, Fakih served her fellow students as class senator and president of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE). She also spent time volunteering for various community organizations. As ambassador of the Pink Fund, a financial assistance organization, Fakih is dedicated to helping remove the short-term financial burden from breast cancer patients. As Miss Michigan USA 2010, Fakih served as one of the first official pageant ambassadors for women’s self- defense awareness, educating women on the importance of taking the necessary precautionary measures to best protect and prepare themselves from unwanted situations. As Miss USA, Fakih is a spokeswoman for breast and ovarian cancer education, research and legislation - a platform that is close to her heart.
