De Catalanen zijn van oudsher een volk van zeevaarders en handelsreizigers, net als de Nederlanders, zou je kunnen zeggen. Aunque matiza que también importa cómo se consigue, otorga indiscutible prioridad al resultado. Yo digo que dicho pensamiento es falaz. Lo más importante es el cómo porque el resultado siempre es y será pasajero y reemplazado. El resultado no es eterno ni duradero. El resultado se pierde sumergido en una marea de resultados en la que unos solapan y ocultan a otros. Lo que trasciende no es el resultado porque hay resultados cada día y a todas horas, resultados que enmascaran, suplen y esconden otros resultados. Hay más resultados que amaneceres. Lo que trasciende no es cuántos amaneceres vives, sino cómo los vives. El Cómo tiene mala fama por una razón fundamental: sus detractores han pretendido definir el concepto -y parecen haberlo conseguido- como algo meramente estético, cuando no es así. Ellos mismos lo reconocen si, apurados por el reloj o las angustias del resultado, apelan a “ganar como sea”. El “como sea” equivale a todo menos a un esmero estético, de ahí la contradicción estentórea. No estoy reivindicando la derrota ni negando la importancia del resultado, sino situando al Cómo en primera fila de todas las prioridades. El Cómo es trascendental. Es prioritario porque constituye nuestra auténtica elección. Es el camino que decidimos tomar. Es el guión que pretendemos escribir. Es el rostro que queremos mostrar. Es la riqueza que ansiamos atesorar.
