The Ball State Softball Field at First Merchants Ballpark Complex has undergone numerous upgrades over the past few seasons. The biggest change to the field itself came in the summer of 2014, when the outfield was completely renovated with a new FieldTurf playing surface. The infield was also laser graded as part of the project, while the bullpens and batting cages were redone. In addition, the scoreboard was updated with a new paint scheme. Prior to the start of the 2014 season, a new team room facility was opened to give players and coaches a meeting place at the field. The facility also includes restrooms and an umpire’s changing room. Following the 2015 season, the dugouts were replaced with new brick dugouts featuring an attached player/staff bathroom and built-in heaters. The fence backstop was also adjusted to accommodate the new dugout design and location. In addition, space was added to the team complex for concessions, storage and an additional umpire changing room. Other recent upgrades include a new sound system, new perimeter fencing and padding around the outfield fence.
