  • Crossmedia Adaptation and the Development of Continuity in the Dc Animated Universe
“INFINITE EARTHS”: CROSSMEDIA ADAPTATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTINUITY IN THE DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE Alex Nader A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2015 Committee: Jeff Brown, Advisor Becca Cragin © 2015 Alexander Nader All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeff Brown, Advisor This thesis examines the process of adapting comic book properties into other visual media. I focus on the DC Animated Universe, the popular adaptation of DC Comics characters and concepts into all-ages programming. This adapted universe started with Batman: The Animated Series and comprised several shows on multiple networks, all of which fit into a shared universe based on their comic book counterparts. The adaptation of these properties is heavily reliant to intertextuality across DC Comics media. The shared universe developed within the television medium acted as an early example of comic book media adapting the idea of shared universes, a process that has been replicated with extreme financial success by DC and Marvel (in various stages of fruition). I address the process of adapting DC Comics properties in television, dividing it into “strict” or “loose” adaptations, as well as derivative adaptations that add new material to the comic book canon. This process was initially slow, exploding after the first series (Batman: The Animated Series) changed networks and Saturday morning cartoons flourished, allowing for more opportunities for producers to create content. References, crossover episodes, and the later series Justice League Unlimited allowed producers to utilize this shared universe to develop otherwise impossible adaptations that often became lasting additions to DC Comics publishing.

FREE BLACK CANARY AND ZATANNA: BLOODSPELL PDF Joe Quinones,Paul Dini | 152 pages | 03 Jun 2014 | DC Comics | 9781401210540 | English | United States Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell by Paul Dini Looks like I have to break down and buy this. I am a fan of the creators and characters. Was thinking of waiting out for soft cover. But looks too good to wait. Great review. I think you'd really enjoy it. I have no idea when the softcover will be out probably six months to a year from now. Finally finished reading thru this, and am prepared to go thru it all over again, so good that it was. A treat from start to finish. You know who Dinah and Zatanna reminded me off here? Katina Choovanski and her beloved from Strangers in Paradise - in fact, Dinah had such a Katchoo invested in her the paralles were incredible. The switching Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell between bodies was cool, very funny and exciting in equal parts, and you mentioned the other male heroes such as Supes, GL etc appearing in minor roles; I like that. Esp seeing a confused Supes looing after Dottie. The only thing that didn't ring true was when Dinah broke those metal bonds that held Joy - does she have super-strength or something?!? I agree this Tina wasn't the great super-villain we could have expected - any number of Silver Age baddies could have sufficed, maybe even one of Wonder Woman's female villiains. I really enjoyed this book, from the road trip with the floating hands driving, to the Dinah in disguise spell that was both cute and sexy and amusing.

Picture Information. This novel, Zatanna collects the stories by Paul Dini. Dini does a fantastic job giving us a fun, exciting adventure with action, humor, some horror and a bit of suspense. The action is nearly nonstop! All of the information that we have about a particular item is listed on the eBay page. She's such a great character! I had a great time reading this. Typical superhero comic where it is more about the action and events than character studies. My favourite story was the one with the marionettes. Average rating 3. It's really sad that this run ended before Dini got the chance to write the big confrontation the series leads up to - but I think the New 52 is to blame for that smh. Date This week Last week Past month 2 months 3 months 6 months 1 year 2 years Pre Pre Pre Pre Pre s s s s s s Search Advanced. Mickey is a cool character but again, her relationship with Zatanna is not given enough attention. Dini was a very busy man, but it was extremely frustrating for me as a ready of the comic on a monthly basis to have fill-in issues every three or four months. I could have done without the constant mentions of men and dating both by Zatanna and her friends.

They’re on stage, in the spotlight, bowing at the waist, but looking out at the unseen audience. Zatanna has a genuine smile on her face, Zach a self- impressed smirk. If you want to go nuts, and if there’s room behind them, you might want to show some magic props, the crazier and the funnier the better – a human- sized armoire with its doors open to show a bunch of swords run through it, a cage on a pedestal packed to bursting with doves, a live elephant dressed as a cowboy…I leave it to you, Jamal! ANNOUNCER: Ladies and gentlemen, let’s hear it one more time for the magical magnificence of Zatanna and Zachary Zatara! ZATANNA (whispered): I’m going to kill you. ZACHARY (whispered): Blah blah blah. 2 PAGE TWO PANEL ONE Zatanna pursues Zach into the wings off the stage, past a stage manager speaking into a headset while stage crew head the other way to remove to props. The curtain is closing on the stage behind them. ZATANNA: You blew three cues out there and left me holding the bag! ZATANNA: Literally ! The bag with the rabbits ! PANEL TWO Coming toward us down the corridor of the theater, Zach in front, smirking blithely, Zatanna stomping after him, royally pissed. Theater personnel move past them going the other way. ZATANNA: Your stagecraft is abysmal ! Your professionalism is nowhere ! ZACH: Tell it to the standing ovation back there.
