Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Reopens!
Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Reopens! On 22 October 2016, the National Parks Board (NParks) reopened Bukit Timah Nature Reserve following the completion of two years of restoration works and sensitive enhancements to the site. The Reserve was closed from September 2014 to October 2016 to allow NParks to repair and enhance the slopes and trails for public safety, upgrade the Visitor Centre, restore the forest habitat, and conduct a two-year biodiversity survey for the area. Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance Mr Lawrence Wong, together with the Advisers of Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, planted two Endocomia canarioides trees at the site to mark the reopening of the Reserve. (Photo credit: NParks) Restoration Works for the Reserve Prior to its closure, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve received more than 400,000 visitors each year. Over the years, heavy usage of the Reserve resulted in soil compaction, erosion, and gully formation, causing poor forest regeneration and an unpleasant hiking experience for visitors. Sections of three slopes along the Main Road trail, which had weakened in recent years, were repaired to ensure slope stability and public safety.

Cheong2 Ma Nang Laik3 Koo Ping Shung4 Abstract Sentiment analysis is a new area in text analytics where it focuses on the analysis and understanding of the emotions from the text patterns. This new form of analysis has been widely adopted in customer relation management especially in the context of complaint management. With increasing level of interest in this technology, more and more companies are adopting it and using it to champion their marketing efforts. However, sentiment analysis using twitter has remained extremely difficult to manage due to the sampling bias. In this paper, we will discuss about the application of using reweighting techniques in conjunction with online sentiment divisions to predict the vote percentage that individual candidate will receive. There will be in depth discussion about the various aspects using sentiment analysis to predict outcomes as well as the potential pitfalls in the estimation due to the anonymous nature of the internet. Introduction Social media has been widely adopted by many private enterprises to market their products as well as services. With the successful campaign of President Obama in the US presidential campaign 2008, social media platforms such as facebook, twitter as well as other sites have catapulted to great success as the leading platform to engage voters. Many political analysts (Stirland, 2008; Pasek, 2006; Xenos, 2007) have attributed his success to the active use of social media to engage voters especially the younger voters whose concerns are usually ignored or given less importance (Pasek, 2006).

Speech by Deputy Prime Minister, Teo Chee Hean, at Commitee of Supply Debate, 2 March 2017 A Well-Coordinated, Technology-Enabled, and Future-Ready Public Service Thank you Madam Chairperson. First, let me thank Members for their views and their strong support for the work of our public officers. Over the past week, Members debated how to position Singapore for the future, and move ahead as one people. As challenges become more cross-cutting, the Government needs to be even more closely coordinated in policy formulation and policy execution, and to harness and manage our national resources more effectively. This will help ensure that the Public Sector is ready to help implement the recommendations of the Committee on the Future Economy and take Singapore forward. I want to assure Members that our public officers do work tirelessly to serve Singapore and Singaporeans. There are many examples of exemplary public officers who go the extra mile to help those with particular needs or are in distress. From HDB, LTA, WSG, the SSOs – the whole group that Mr Seah referred to. Indeed, we recognise such officers each year to encourage everyone in the Public Service to follow their example. However, no system is perfect and we are constantly striving to do better. Each one of us who serve the public – public officers, Members of this House, and members of the public too – have a role to play. Each year, we also recognise members of the public who have contributed to making our public services more responsive and empathetic. Madam Chairperson, while our public officers at all levels work quietly and tirelessly and do not seek praise, a little encouragement does help.
