Knight was given his middle name in honour of the s English Test bowler Hedley Verity who was killed in World War II and is a distant family relation. In domestic cricket, he began his career with Essex in before transferring to Warwickshire four years later. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. His first visit was in October 2005 when members enjoyed a most pleasant evening in his company. John Crawley has endeared himself to Hampshire supporters during his seven years with the County. He has reinforced his penchant for making high scores by being the only batsman in the County’s history to record two triple centuries, both at the expense of the Nottinghamshire bowlers. He made 301 not out at Trent Bridge in 2005 and then followed it up with an unbeaten 311 at The Rose Bowl a year later. Virtually all Hampshire supporters felt it was a great pity that Shane Warne declared when our speaker was tantalisingly close to Dick More’s record 316 for the County. When he last spoke to us he felt that the former innings was the best crafted and that, in respect of the latter, the emphasis had to be on winning the match, which Hampshire duly did. Moreover, he made 272 on his Hampshire debut at Canterbury in 2002; he has therefore recorded three of the six highest innings for the County. All three innings are the highest made for Hampshire in the last 70 years – a phenomenal achievement. He might even have made a triple century in the latter innings but was unluckily run out at the non-striker’s end when a Shaun Udal drive was deflected on to the stumps by Min Patel.

    ASHLEY COWAN (G88-93) Ashley was born in 1975 in Hitchin in Hertfordshire. He made his first-class debut for Essex against Derbyshire at Chelmsford in August 1995 and picked up his first wicket in first-class cricket during the following Championship fixture, against Yorkshire at Headingley – the victim was Darren Gough. The right-armer cemented a regular place in the 1st XI in 1996 when he picked up 37 Championship wickets – including a hat-trick against Gloucestershire at Colchester. 1997 proved to be his most rewarding campaign, when his domestic performances earned him a spot in England’s squad to tour the West Indies. Cowan finished second in Essex’s Championship bowling averages with 52 wickets @ 25.65, and was the County’s leading wicket-taker in the AXA one-day League and NatWest Trophy. In the NatWest Trophy he enjoyed one of his finest hours (or closer to three) when he ensured Essex took a firm grip of the Final against Warwickshire at Lord’s from the off. His dismissal of former team-mate Nick Knight in the first over was the prelude to an outstanding analysis of 12-3-29-3. Essex’s nine-wicket victory provided Cowan with the first of two knock-out winner’s medals in consecutive seasons as the County returned to Lord’s the following season in the Benson and Hedges Cup Final. Cowan again picked up three wickets as Leicestershire were brushed aside. In between these crowning glories came a largely undistinguished trip to the Caribbean with England, where he was restricted to just three first-class matches in between the Tests.

As David Fish mentioned in his vote of thanks, the evening was akin to a warm fireside chat in the company of friends. The two ex- Hampshire cricketers spoke for over an hour and a half and one feels that, if time permitted, they would still be going some twelve hours later as the editor has sat down to draft his report. It was an evening of the very essence of Society meetings as they recalled the on and off field exploits of their former team-mates and their opponents.

    Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No. 211 – Auckland Cricket’s “Club of the Year” Again Auckland Cricket’s Club of the Year Award – The Simmonds and Osborne Trophy At our Awards Dinner – Nick Albrect, Chairman of Auckland Cricket Association congratulating Parnell and presenting the Simmonds and Osborne Trophy to Craig Presland, our Chairman Parnell CC has been awarded “Club of the Year” for just the 8th time since its inauguration in 1905 and, for the very the first time, the Club has received the Trophy in consecutive seasons, 2019/20 and 2020/2 The Awards Dinner There has been much to celebrate this season just ended and the Club has held several Prizegivings – 3 sessions of Juniors, 1 of Seniors. Then, a marvellous finale, the Awards Dinner held in the Terry Jarvis Centre on 9 April. Some photos follow but fuller details of actual prizewinners will be included in the Annual Report. Excellent food and Trophies for presentation to those who excelled The Shelby Bros from Peaky Blinders - did a great job as MCs for the night Junior Chairman Jeremy Boucher presented caps and trophies to Juniors, And Women’s Chairman Gemma Lord and Coach Henry Cameron did likewise to the Women Nathan Robinson receiving the TG McIntosh Cup from Chairman Craig for the Most Outstanding School Cricketer (as one can see, Nathan has now left King’s College and is now attending Victoria University) And, right, The WJ Dinnison Cup is being presented by Phil Horne to Renee Macmillan, The Player Under 21 showing Most Prowess, Sportsmanship and Club Spirit.
