Description/content Max Planck School Matter to Life offers a PhD programme with an integrated Master’s degree programme.

Students must receive a Master’s degree in Matter to Life by studying at one of the three teaching (University of Göttingen, , or Technical University of Munich).

Subsequently, the students pursue their own research in the PhD phase of the programme under the supervision of a fellow of the Matter to Life who has matching research interests.

Course Details 2 Course organisation You will spend the first phase (Master's study phase) of the programme at one of the three teaching universities, depending on your choice of specialisation:

Complex Systems and Biological (University of Göttingen), Molecular Systems and (Heidelberg University), or Bioengineering (Technical University of Munich)

The universities share a core curriculum with classes taught in connected classrooms. Voluntary preparatory courses in , chemistry, physical chemistry, and statistics are offered prior to the start of the Master's programme.

During the Master's phase of the programme, laboratory rotations to associated institutions are encouraged, and the students are supported in building their own research networks in this highly interdisciplinary area. All students are given a mentor to guide them through the programme.

After you have successfully completed the Master's programme, you can continue with the three- year PhD programme under the supervision of one of the school's fellows.

Semester contribution Fees are around 400 EUR per semester. The fees include a prepaid semester ticket that entitles students to use regional trains (in Lower and ) and city buses in Göttingen free of charge. Students of the University of Göttingen receive discounts for cultural events. Meals and drinks are also available at reduced prices at all university canteens. Costs of living The average cost of living in Göttingen is modest compared to other major university cities in Germany. Description of the above- During the Master's phase of the programme, students will receive generous stipends from the Max mentioned funding Planck Society with a minimum of 1,365 EUR gross pay per month. As PhD student, you will receive opportunities within the a position as a scientist and be paid according to German salary regulations TV-L / TVöD E13. This university will result in a monthly salary of at least 4,800 EUR before taxes. This will allow you to fully concentrate on your studies and research.

Academic admission Bachelor's degree in or engineering with at least three years of study and at requirements least 180 credits: including at least 96 credits in the fields of physics, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular , molecular systems engineering, or bioengineering including at least 19 credits in the field of physics and mathematics English certificate (for non-native speakers)

Language requirements Very good English language skills are required: level B2 and above. Proof of a successfully completed (IELTS, TOEFL, or CAE) is required when applying.
