The 10 years of success and innovation that Blackstar has enjoyed, however, put the lie to that idea. I remember visiting Blackstar’s factory a few years ago and being shown a prototype of an ID:Core amplifier and wondering how on earth they’d gotten such a huge, room-filling sound out of such a small box. When they then told me that the amp was going to sell for the price of an effects pedal, it gave me an acute attack of what I now recognise as the Blackstar ‘Wow’ effect . -

Rascal Flatts Debut 'Back to Life,' Experiment with Singles-Only Business Model: Lyric Video Premiere
(09.28.18) - https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/country/8477320/rascal-flatts-back- to-life-lyric-video Rascal Flatts Debut 'Back to Life,' Experiment With Singles-Only Business Model: Lyric Video Premiere For the members of Rascal Flatts, new single “Back to Life” doesn’t just contain a winning formula for a hit; the midtempo ballad is also a sweet testament to the women in their lives. Lead singer Gary LeVox says the Big Machine Records trio was initially drawn to the song -- written by Cary Barlowe, Niko Moon, Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney and Fred Wilhelm -- because of a melody he calls “so infectious” that’s also reminiscent of some of the band’s previous hits. “We’ve had such great success with those 6/8 waltzes in the past,” he says, such as “Easy” and “Come Wake Me Up.” Additionally, “We thought that melody on the B section going into the chorus was so different, and we just really, really loved it and thought it would be a great song for the end of the summer.” The track went to country radio Friday (Sept. 28). Billboard premieres the lyric video below: The lyrics also resonated with LeVox and bandmates Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, all happily married. With lines like “Taking my hand, pulling me up when I’m going under” and “I don’t want to think about where I would be without her,” LeVox says, “That’s how we look at our wives, as just being the anchors, and our moms. They’re the ones that keep us from going under half the time.” Adds DeMarcus, who produced the single along with his bandmates, “It’s a pretty empowering song for women to let them know how much power they really have when it comes to being a support system for their husbands, and how much life they can bring to us whenever we’re going through dark times.” After 10 albums, Rascal Flatts are trying out a new, singles-based business model, which means that while “Back to Life” is a brand-new song, it’s not necessarily the lead single from a forthcoming album. -

CONCERTS Copyright Lighting&Sound America October 2007 www.lightingandsoundamerica.com 40 • October 2007 • Lighting&Sound America Creating a dramatic fusion of scenery, video, and lighting for Rascal Flatts’ tour By: Paul Berliner Photography: Adrienne Orilla ooking back at the opening concert of Rascal L Flatt’s Still Feels Good tour at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Arena—a fascinating day comprised of interviews, rehearsals, and culminating with the band’s concert—a certain memory is unmistakably clear. When I worked on video crews for Bay Area sporting events, the chatter on the headsets would often evolve into a verbal game of “Can you top this?” The audio mixer would tell a tall tale about a client or a particularly challenging remote, then the centerfield cameraman would chime in with an even wilder anecdote—but invariably, the technical director would top everyone with one of his many farfetched yarns. Having experienced Rascal Flatt’s Me and My Gang Tour a year earlier, I knew then that nothing could ever top that remarkable set, comprised of a giant video structure code-named “the mother ship” by the crew. Combining brilliant design and video content, the mother ship constituted a groundbreaking immersive concert experience that could not be surpassed. No way, never, case dismissed. Yet, over a year later, here was another set taking shape that had the potential to prove me wrong. How could the Me and My Gang concert experience ever be topped? I was about to find out. The 3-D video set Because it was so visually overwhelming, with over 140 points of rigging, simply describing the Rascal Flatts set is no small task. -

STAND BY YOUR MAN, REDNECK WOMAN: TOWARDS A HISTORICAL VIEW OF COUNTRY MUSIC GENDER ROLES by CENATE PRUITT Under the Direction of Wendy S. Simonds ABSTRACT Country music, considered a uniquely American musical genre, has been relatively under-researched compared to rock and rap music. This thesis proposes research into the topic of country music, specifically the ways which country music songs portray gender. The thesis uses Billboard chart data to determine commercially successful songs, and performs a content analysis on the lyrics of these songs. I will select songs from a fifty year period ranging from 1955 to 2005, so as to allow for a longitudinal study of potential changes in -
