SCHACH Jahresbericht 2013 Das Jahr 2013 bringt bemerkenswerte Ergebnissen der Österreicher bei der Einzel-EM im Mai in Legnica, Polen. Bundestrainer David Shengelia führt nach fünf von elf Runden sensationell das Feld an und sorgt für internationale Schlagzeilen. In der Folge kann Shengelia das hohe Tempo nicht halten. Eine Performance von 2658 ist aber deutlich über seiner Erwartung. Die Sensation im rot-weiß-roten Team ist Robert Kreisl. Der Leobner erzielt wie Shengelia sechs Punkte und holt mit einer Eloleistung von 2655 seine erste Großmeisternorm. Er ist zudem jener Spieler der EM der seine Einstufung am weitesten übertroffen hat und erhält dafür einen Spezialpreis. Markus Ragger steht am Anfang zwar im Schatten seiner beiden Teamkollegen lässt aber von Anfang an keinen Zweifel, dass er sein hohes Ziel, die Qualifikation für den World Cup, fest im Auge hat. Einen kleinen Rückschlag erleidet er in der achten Runde mit seiner einzigen Niederlage. Ragger kontert unmittelbar mit seinen Siegen vier und fünf und sichert mit einem Remis in der Schlussrunde einen Top-20 Platz und die Teilnahme am World Cup. Der World Cup 2013 wurde im August im norwegischen Tromsö als Generalprobe für die Schach-Olympiade 2014 ausgetragen. Im spannenden K.O.-Modus besiegt Ragger nach einem 1:1 in den klassischen Partien den Russen Ivan Popov in den Schnellpartien mit 1,5:0,5 und ist damit in den Top-64. In der zweiten Runde spielt Ragger mit Nikita Vitiugov erneut gegen einen Russen. Nach spannendem Kampf scheidet Ragger mit 1,5:2,5 leider aus, kann aber diese Erfahrungen für die Zukunft mitnehmen. -
