Welcome

In my association with I have been fortunate to work with some very talented student-athletes. These student-athletes are overachievers, by defi nition players who set lo goals for themselves and then catapult themselves well beyond those goals. Daniella and I believe, and try to instill in our student- athletes, the notion that they really have no concept of how good they can be in the classroom, on the court, or in life. The message is that potential has no boundaries. Se ing goals and reaching them through daily hard work characterizes our program. Syracuse University has so much to off er student-athletes in so many areas. As an educational institution I believe that one cannot make a be er choice. The athletics department stands out among all NCAA institutions as a competitive, student-oriented organization, dedicated to preserving the ideals of athleticism and scholarship. Every student-athlete has a team of caring professionals dedicated to making sure they get the best in academic counseling, medical a ention and physical conditioning. The Syracuse athletics tradition is legendary. Anyone who enters the Orange domain feels the energy of this highly motivated team. I invite yo to be a part of our success, either as a fan or as a player. Thank you for showing an interest in Syracuse Tennis.

Soladay Award

It is fitting that the Soladay Award is the most prestigious award given to a student-athlete by the Department of Athletics. After all, Doris R. Soladay epitomizes all of the positives in intercollegiate athletics. The Soladay Award is given annually to the top male and female student-athletes who best exemplify the essence of Doris. Prior to the NCAA taking women’s athletics into its fold, Doris held offices on numerous committees in the AIAW (Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women) on the state, regional and national levels. After the merger, Doris directed her energy into the NCAA Council, serving from 1989 through 1995. Doris was also influential regionally where she was an integral part of the expansion of The BIG EAST Conference to include women’s athletics, as well as chairing various committees in the league. The ECAC also benefited from her knowledge and savvy, where she was a member of the ECAC Women’s Steering Committee from 1983-87. For her many outstanding contributions, the ECAC honored Doris with the 1995 Katherine Ley Award, presented annually to a women’s athletics
