October 2009 Comedy Channel Highlights www.comedychannel.com.au OCTOBER 2009 HIGHLIGHTS 1. The Gong Show With Dave Attell 2. The Jay Leno Show 3. Sunday Headliners The Gong Show With Dave Attell AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE Thursdays at 9.30pm from October 8 The maddest comedy variety series is returning but it’s been remixed for the noughties! THE GONG SHOW with Dave Attell is the new version of the ground-breaking 1970’s Chuck Barris original where a panel of celebrity judges witness a revolving door of outrageous variety acts before delivering their verdict, one that often sees the losers rapidly sent back to obscurity with a giant gong hammer. THE GONG SHOW is brimming with the most preposterous, nonsensical and off-the-wall performances courtesy of everyday people with a dream of performing. Acts include a man who plays the bagpipes while on a unicycle, the human helicopter, a plus-size male stripper and a group that uses ladders and recyclables as musical instruments. If the act survives without being gonged, he/she/they/it are given a score and the contestant who achieves the highest combined score wins the grand prize. The rotating roster of guest judges that rag on the ‘talent’ includes Dave Navarro, Andy Dick, J.B. Smoove, Steve Schirripa, Brian Posehn, Adam Carolla, Dana Goodman, Julia Wolov, Greg Giraldo and Triumph, The Insult Comic Dog. If you thought RED FACES was the pinnacle of talent show weirdness, you haven’t seen anything yet - there’s a reason some talent remains undiscovered! The Jay Leno Show EXCLUSIVE AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE Weeknights at 7.30pm One 2009's most hotly anticipated television shows will screen exclusively on THE COMEDY CHANNEL! Advertising shapes the way we feel about ourselves and the world around us. :30 Seconds provides an hilarious, yet poignant, insight into this industry and the cunning spin doctors who inhabit it. They have redefined our meaning of happiness and sense of fulfillment, and have a hell of a lot to answer for. Set in the fictional advertising agency BND Worldwide it follows BND’s brilliant but troubled, Creative Director, Martin Manning (Joel Tobeck, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, 30 Days of Night, Tangle) and his staff as they go about their working lives underneath the banner: ‘BND. Truth Well Sold’. Featuring some of Australia’s finest talent, the multiple award winning ensemble cast also includes, Peter O’Brien, Gyton Grantley, Stephen Curry, Jenna Lind, Emily Brennan and Kat Stewart. :30 SECONDS is co-executive produced by Andrew Denton (Enough Rope) and Kim Vecera (Tangle, Satisfaction, Love My Way) and is directed by Shawn Seet (Two Fists One Heart, Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities) with acclaimed story editor Andrew Knight (Sea Change, Tripping Over, After the Deluge). Quirky, colourful with a strong, talented cast, this satirical look at the advertising industry has no better home than THE COMEDY CHANNEL. Series concludes October 12. Better Off Ted AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE Mondays at 9pm (moves to 8.30pm from October 19) Need cow-less meat grown in a test tube? Done. Need pumpkins that also double as weapons of mass destruction? No problem. BETTER OFF TED is a satirical office comedy about Ted, a successful good guy, who runs research and development at the morally questionable Veridian Dynamics. No achievement is too far-fetched and no invention too unorthodox. Ted loves his job, but he's starting to question the company's morally dubious practices. Do you manufacture the world’s best teeth whitener if it could also kill off all of the planet's fish? Probably not, but... Ted’s a single dad to a 7-year-old girl and is also fighting an attraction to co-worker Linda. He's already had his self imposed "one office affair" with überboss Veronica who is beautiful and possibly devoid of conscience and emotions. Veronica lets nothing get in her way when it comes to serving Veridian's needs, even if it means cryogenically freezing an employee for testing purposes. After all, research scientist Phil, survived (after he thawed out). BETTER OFF TED stars Jay Harrington as Ted, Portia de Rossi as Veronica, Andrea Anders as Linda, Jonathan Slavin and Malcolm Barrett as Research Assistants Phil and Lem. • 2017 CFAC Donation Letter and Form.Pdf
Dear Friend: Please help us beat last year’s fundraising record by donating to our 5th Annual 2017 Comedy For A Cause Auction and Benefit Show for PS11 The William T Harris Elementary School, located in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. PS 11 is a wonderfully diverse school with a large percentage of the population qualifying for “free lunch”. The Department of Education provides the basics, but it’s up to the community to provide everything else. The PS11 PTA has made it their mission to make up for this shortfall and more with innovative fundraisers like Comedy For A Cause. Over the past four years, our comedy benefit has raised enough money to enable the PTA to pay for all the school supplies for over 900 students, enrichment programs in the arts (Rioult dance, Rosie's Theater Kids, Julliard Music, Circle in the Square playwriting, etc.), additional teachers to help reduce class size, math and literacy consultants, teacher development and so much more. PS11 was chosen by the New York City Schools Chancellor as a Model School to partner up with two other elementary schools to show them how they can improve practices. Each year, our comedy benefit sells out in a matter of hours. We’ve featured top national talent including Gilbert Gottfried, John Oliver, Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Gaffigan, Jim Norton, Colin Quinn, Susie Essman, Michael Che, Dave Attell, Artie Lange, Judy Gold, Donnell Rawlings and many more. This year’s event will be held at Gotham Comedy Club in NYC on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.

Cast Biographies RILEY KEOUGH (Christine Reade) Riley Keough, 26, is one of Hollywood’s rising stars. At the age of 12, she appeared in her first campaign for Tommy Hilfiger and at the age of 15 she ignited a media firestorm when she walked the runway for Christian Dior. From a young age, Riley wanted to explore her talents within the film industry, and by the age of 19 she dedicated herself to developing her acting craft for the camera. In 2010, she made her big-screen debut as Marie Currie in The Runaways starring opposite Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. People took notice; shortly thereafter, she starred alongside Orlando Bloom in The Good Doctor, directed by Lance Daly. Riley’s memorable work in the film, which premiered at the Tribeca film festival in 2010, earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Milan International Film Festival in 2012. Riley’s talents landed her a title-lead as Jack in Bradley Rust Gray’s werewolf flick Jack and Diane. She also appeared alongside Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey in Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh, which grossed nearly $167 million worldwide. Further in 2011, she completed work on director Nick Cassavetes’ film Yellow, starring alongside Sienna Miller, Melanie Griffith and Ray Liota, as well as the Xan Cassavetes film Kiss of the Damned. As her camera talent evolves alongside her creative growth, so do the roles she is meant to play. Recently, she was the lead in the highly-anticipated fourth installment of director George Miller’s cult- classic Mad Max - Mad Max: Fury Road alongside a distinguished cast comprising of Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz and Nick Hoult.

  • Eight Comedians; One Chronic Mental Illness
Eight comedians; one chronic mental illness When it comes to depression, everyone’s story is different. But a lot of time, the stories can be pretty similar. In this podcast, there are common themes that rise up in conversations with comedians. There was a pretty specific age range during which most people first felt depression. Some were as young as five, some as old as 21. But for a lot of them, it hit right down the middle: during the cracking voice years, the unexpected hair years. Jake Weisman, standup comic Jake is based in LA and one of the writers and stars of Hampton Deville, an up and coming sitcom on Comedy Central. “The first time I had depression was when puberty hit in seventh or eighth grade. I remember feeling very dark thoughts all the time. Like not wanting to be alive. I remember being kind of an asshole. I hated myself so much. I remember every day, having this layer of sludge over my brain. I felt stupid and unworthy of everything I had and I kind of hated myself. I would be really sarcastic to people.” Awareness of how much you could hate yourself comes up a lot. Also, how much you could detach from the world. Sometimes how much you didn’t want to be there anymore. Another theme that kept coming up was confusion about what was going on. You don’t have life experience to identify it. You’ve never felt anything like this before. Mike Drucker, standup and a writer Mike has worked on Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live, he’s co-writer of an upcoming Bill Nye’s show for Netflix.
