Central Administrative Tribunal Calcutta Bench Calcutta Hon’ble Ms. Jaya Das Gupta Member (A) NAME : JAYA DAS GUPTA (ADMINISTRATIVE MEMBER, C.A.T., Calcutta Bench) DATE OF BIRTH : 23rd APRIL 1953 FAMILY BACKGROUND : * Mother Nila Das Gupta belonged to the first batch of ladies to graduate from Presidency College, Calcutta in 1948, with Honours in History. Pursued Masters in History at the University of Calcutta. Hailed from a family of legal practitioners. Her maternal grandfather was in Bengal Civil Service (Judicial Branch). * Father Ajay Kumar Das Gupta was a Civil Engineer from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur. His father was also an alumnus of the same College while his paternal grandfather was a renowned Sanskrit scholar. He served in the Construction Board, PWD and rose to the rank of Chief Engineer. * Daughter Joyoshi is a gold-medallist in MSc. Physics from the University of Calcutta and is a member of the Indian Administrative Service. EDUCATION : * Completed Senior Cambridge from La Martiniere for Girls, Calcutta in 1969. * Graduated with Honours in Chemistry from Presidency College, Calcutta in 1972. * Completed Masters in Chemistry from Science College, University of Calcutta in 1975. Stood second in the University in First Class. • Received National Science Talent Search Scholarship while pursuing B.Sc and M.Sc. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE : * Joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1978. * Received the President’s Census Medal in 1981. * Served in diverse fields covering Finance, Social Welfare, Commerce & Industries, Education, Information Technology, Pollution Control, Water Resources and Development and Planning. * Retired as Additional Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal, on 30.4.2013. * Served as Chairperson, Special Task Force on Jangalmahal, constituted by the Government of West Bengal, from 1.5.2013 to 7.10.2013. Was mandated to co- ordinate and monitor social, economic and infrastructural development of the Left- Wing-Extremism affected Districts of Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore. Involved in streamlining the working of 14 Departments in relation to these Districts. * Joined the Calcutta Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal as Administrative Member, on 8.10.2013..
