INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Provan Hall is a grade A listed site formed of two houses and courtyard. It is considered to be one of the best-preserved fortified country houses in and one of the oldest surviving buildings in , with the oldest building dating from the 16th century. Set within Auchinlea Park and in close proximity to the Retail Park, the hall is closely linked to many events in the and was at the heart of the Bishop’s Estate that once stretched from to and Bishop Loch. The building is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and managed by .

The Project Mission With funding secured from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Glasgow City Council and other funding partners, both buildings will be restored for future generations to visit and learn about the history and heritage of the house.

The Project Outcomes • Provan Hall is restored, enhanced and brought into positive conservation management; • Built and cultural heritage at Provan Hall is more visible, accessible, and better explained through interpretation; • The landscape and habitats of Auchinlea Park are restored, enhanced and brought into positive conservation management; • Landscape and natural heritage are more accessible and better explained through interpretation; • More people and a wider range of people have learnt about and engaged with heritage; • People have developed heritage skills and knowledge through volunteering, • Provan Hall Community Management Trust leads the future management of Provan Hall as a gateway to the .

Project Goals • A comprehensive programme of repairs to the structure, exterior and interior fabric; • Creation of a welcome hub to include interpretation, orientation information and retail space; • Development of a permanent exhibition as the backdrop for the presentation and telling of the building’s story. This will include period dressed spaces; • Multi-purpose space; • Temporary exhibition space; • Dressing of the courtyard and potential inclusion of some exterior interpretation, • Office space for staff and the Trust.

The Provan Hall Community Management Trust – Who we are The Provan Hall Community Management Trust (PHCMT) is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) whose charitable objectives are: • The advancement of education; • The advancement of arts, heritage and culture; • The advancement of environmental protection and improvement, • The provision of recreational facilities and activities with the purpose of improving the community’s conditions of life at Provan Hall House and the surrounding locality.

Once the restoration is complete in 2021 Provan Hall will be an important heritage attraction for Easterhouse and Glasgow. Provan Hall Community Trust will be responsible for the day to day management of the building, developing an attractive programme for visitors both local and afar to come and find out about the rich history and heritage of this important landmark in the heart of Easterhouse. Once a hidden gem locally, Provan Hall House will become a vibrant visitor attraction for all the family for future generations. The trust seeks an ambitious, motivated individual with experience of heritage, communities and project management, to work with us to make Provan Hall a leading attraction for the North East of Glasgow and beyond.

JOB PURPOSE To support the development and operation of Provan Hall Community Management Trust by supporting and developing volunteer involvement, an events programme and community engagement.

DUTIES Volunteer Management • Support, develop and coordinate the involvement of volunteers across the Trust’s activities; • Develop and manage volunteer role profiles; • Interview and select volunteers ensuring they are appropriately matched for each role; • Raise awareness of the benefits and role of volunteering; • Implement a PVG Scheme for volunteers and staff; • Deliver induction training and further developmental training of volunteers; • Support and motive volunteers and monitor work; • Manage volunteer budget and resources, • Maintain databases and other administrative tasks in relation to volunteers.

Event and Activity Programme • Develop and coordinate a programme of heritage events and activities, and support the operation of Provan Hall as a heritage visitor attraction for the building reopening in 2022; • Develop and support a programme community engagement and heritage learning activities linked to the restoration of Provan Hall, including operation of a temporary activity and exhibition space; • Establish activities and events that target identified community needs; • Work with local groups and individuals to develop new activities and initiatives, • Design engaging, inclusive participatory activities and events which allow people who don’t normally get involved to take part in initiatives.

Community Engagement • Develop links with local schools and support organisations and activities; • Work with local groups and individuals to develop new activities and initiatives, • Develop partnerships with a range of organisations to support the on-going operation of Provan. Hall.

Operational / Finance • Actively fundraise and complete grant applications on behalf of the trust; • Support the day-to-day operation of Provan Hall; • Line management of part-time facilities officers; • Report to funders and responsible for additional project fundraising working with the PCMT board; • Report to the trust board and partners; • Support implementation of the trust funding strategy, including making funding applications and managing grants; • Support implementation of trust communication and marketing plan, • Work with trust board to review and update their policies and procedures.

CRITERIA Essential • Qualified to degree level (Community Development / Heritage or similar qualification); • Proven track record in partnership working in the Community Development / Heritage sector; • Ability to lead and manage a team of paid staff and volunteers; • Ability to project manage and generate income; • Day to day project management experience; • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation; • Ability to plan and deliver a programme of events and activities to maximise visitor numbers; • Ability to provide accurate reports to boards of trustees, funders and stakeholders; • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, • A belief in the value of providing excellent customer service.

Desirable • Knowledge of cultural/ heritage context; • Building management experience; • Promotion and marketing of a project or trust; • Knowledge of funding streams, • First Aid Qualification.
