VIEW is the premier international event in Italy about Computer Graphics, Interactive Techniques, Digital Cinema, 2D/3D Animation, Gaming and VFX. VIEW 2013, continued to focus on exploring the increasingly fluid boundary between real and digital worlds. Through lectures, meetings, tributes, exhibits, screenings and demo presentations VIEW revealed the new digital frontier sweeping from cinema to architecture, from automotive design to advertisement, from medicine to videogames. ?We have extraordinary artists ? says Conference Director Maria Elena Gutierrez - coming to Turin from the world of live action visual effects, commercial production, animated features and short films, game development and technical innovation to share their knowledge and inspire our attendees. I always say this year's VIEW Conference will be the best one yet and I'm going to say it again.? From the world of live-action visual effects, VIEW welcomed: John Knoll, Industrial Light & Magic Chief Creative Officer, giving the opening keynote. Five-time Oscar nominee, Knoll received a visual effects Oscar for ?Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest?; Roger Guyett of Industrial Light and Magic, two-times Oscar nominee, visual effects supervisor and second unit director for ?Star Trek into Darkness?; Eric Nash, visual effects supervisor at Digital Domain; Peter Muyzers of Image Engine, Oscar-nominee for the popular District 9; this year he led the visual effects for another Neill Blomkamps's film, ?Elysium?; from Sony Pictures Imageworks, the supervising animator Troy Saliba and the software architect Parag Havalda, speaking about the creative visual effects and the use of native stereoscopy in the film ?Oz the Great and Powerful?; Marco Carboni, Crowd Lead Technical Director at the Moving Picture Company, showing how MPC created a zombie apocalypse for ?World War Z?. From the world of animated films: Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn of Sony Pictures Animation, directors of ?Cloudy 2?; Stephan Franck of Sony Pictures Animation, director of ?The Smurfs: The Legend of Smurfy Hollow?; Sandra Karpman, Monsters University technical director of Pixar Animation Studios; Lucia Modesto, Character Technical Director Supervisor of PDI/Dreamworks Animation; Bruno Chauffard from MacGuff, ?Despicable Me 2? CG supervisor. From the world of game development: Ovosonico President and CEO Massimo Guarini; Milestone IT Manager and videogame evangelist Marco Mazzaglia; Reludo CEO Antonio Farina. And VIEW wouldn't be VIEW without a special group of speakers who challenge everyone to think outside the box. Author, comic folksinger, stand-up comedian, and screenwriter David Misch titled his talk ?The pain of Comedy, Why Your Body is Funny?. Paul Debevec, one of the most highly regarded computer graphics scientist, research professor and associate director of graphics research at USC's Institute for Creative Technologies presented ?Advances in Achieving Photoreal Digital Actors. In addition to the speakers, VIEW 2013 again offered its extremely popular, practical workshops geared toward professionals and aspiring professionals who want to perfect their craft.
