No of Research Scholars Registered for Ph.D. 08 R&D Projects and Contributions towards Promotion of Technology Innovation: 1. Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC): EDC was established in the year 2007 at Kashmir University with myself as its Advisor, as an R&D Project sponsored by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The initial grant of about Rs. 50.0 Lack (approx.) from DST supported the establishment of EDC for five years. Subsequently, the Govt. of J&K was approached for continuation of EDC at University of Kashmir and as such EDC is being supported by the State Govt. since 2012 till date. EDC has been one of the active platforms working towards developing an entrepreneurial culture in the State of J&K. About 65 Skill Development Training Programmes (SDTP) and 47 Workshops and seminars on Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development have been conducted through EDC till Date. Thousands of youth have been trained for self employment and scores of technology innovators have been supported through EDC. About 26 Patents have also been filed in favour of several technology innovators from Kashmir. Total Grants Received till Date: Rs. 1.0 Crore (Approx.) Status: Ongoing 2. Grassroot Innovation and Augmentation Network (GIAN)/NIF Cell-J&K was established at University of Kashmir in the year 2008 with myself as its Chairman, through an MOU signed with National Innovation Foundation (NIF), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, with myself as Chairman of the GIAN Cell. GIAN Cell-JK provides a platform for grassroot technology innovators from the State of Jammu & Kashmir. GIAN Cell is being sponsored by NIF alongwith the salary of five (5) scouting/Research staff. Till date about 6000 innovative ideas and herbal practices have been scouted and documented by GIAN Cell. About 45 Patents have been filed in favour of Kashmiri innovators and an equal number of innovators have been provided with financial and technical support. 27 innovators incubated through GIAN Cell have received National awards including ten (10) awards at the hands of Presidents of India. Five (5) Patents have been awarded and an equal number of indigenous technologies are successfully being commercialized. Total Grants Received till Date: Rs. 1.5 Crore (Approx.) Status: Ongoing 3. TePP Outreach Centre (TUC) was established at USIC in January, 2011, with myself as its Co-ordinator, to provide handholding support to technology innovators, both from formal as well as non-formal sectors, of the States of J&K and Himachal Pradesh under Technopreneurship Promotion Programme (TePP) of Govt. of India. TUC is being funded with an annual grant of Rs. 12.0 Lac per anum, from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, New Delhi. Innovative research proposals from the technology innovators (faculty, engineers, doctors, research scholars and students) leading to the development and commercialization of indigenous technologies are supported under TePP. TUC is mandated to screen such proposals received from the States of J&K and Himachal Pradesh and financial assistance ranging from 75000 to Rs. 45.0 Lac can be sanctioned in favaour of individual innovators. About twelve (12) innovators have been supported under TUC with a total financial support of about 30.5 Lakh. Total Grants Received till Date: Rs. 0.87 Crore (Approx.) Status: Completed 4. “Design and Development of Novel Electronic Circuits for Efficient and Secure Message Communication”. A Major Research Project with myself as Principal Investigator, Financed by University Grants Commission (UGC) vide their approval/letter No. F.14-26/2002. Total Funds Received: Rs. 4.5 lakh (Approx.) Status: Completed 5. “MIKSHAFUT-TAREEQ----A Path Detection Device”. Development of indigenous technology for the blind to help them walk without human aid, financed by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, under Technopreneur Promotion Programme vide their letter No. TePP/707/02, Dated: 09-12-2003.
