1. Member Institutions must adhere to program standards as applicable by sport and are responsible for reporting each program’s status annually.

2. Membership Requirements a) Sponsorship and compliance with American standards for the Football Bowl Subdivision members b) Sponsorship and compliance with American program standards for Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer and Women’s Soccer c) Competition in all other Conference sports sponsored by the member unless the member exercises its option to federate/terminate participation d) Compliance with NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Conference sponsorship requirements and NCAA Division I Membership sports sponsorship requirements

3. Federation requests -- which are defined as establishing participation in a league sport, terminating participation in a league sport or introducing affiliate membership in a league sport -- must be reviewed by the Athletic Directors on a case-by-case basis (see attached policies & procedures). Federation is NOT permitted if the program’s automatic bid would be eliminated as a result of that team opting out nor may an institution terminate sponsorship of a program if the Conference’s automatic bid would be jeopardized as a result.

31 CONFERENCE CODE OF SPORTSMANSHIP

It is the responsibility of each member institution in The American Athletic Conference to ensure that all individuals associated with its athletic program will conduct themselves with sportsmanship.

Every reasonable effort will be made by member institutions to emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship at all athletic events.

Crowd control responsibilities during The American athletic events rest with the home event management staff designated by the member institution’s Director of Athletics. Policies established by The American are reviewed annually by the Senior Woman Administrators and printed in a handbook effective for the sports season. The American Senior Woman Administrators have been charged with establishing and overseeing sportsmanship practices by serving as the point persons and advocates regarding sportsmanship initiatives.

Student-Athletes, individuals employed by or associated with a member institution, and game officials shall conduct themselves with honesty and good sportsmanship. Their actions shall at all times reflect the high standards of honor and dignity that characterize participation in competitive sports in the collegiate setting.

Misconduct, including verbal misconduct, is any act of dishonesty, unsportsmanlike conduct, unprofessional behavior, failure by any representative of a participating institution to abide by The American Sportsmanship principles and/or poor sportsmanship not necessarily described in detail in this document.

The Commissioner and/or designated Conference office staff member will proceed with disciplinary action if and when the Commissioner deems it appropriate. The Commissioner may elect to work in concert with the Conference’s Executive Sportsmanship Committee, as defined hereafter in this document, in these matters.

Coaches and administrators shall make every attempt to promote the Conference and its members in a positive manner. Game officials, who are responsible for enforcing both the rules of a contest as well as sportsmanship and decorum rules, have the complete support of the Conference member institutions, the Commissioner and Conference office staff.

The following American Athletic Conference Sportsmanship principles apply from the time any representative is en route to, from or at the locale of the competition or practice. Additionally, actions outside this time frame may be subject to the Conference Code of Sportsmanship. This policy includes any competition in which our member institutions are competing. In situations where the unsportsmanlike behavior is addressed during the competition by the officials, the NCAA playing rules take precedent, but additional action may be taken by the Conference for egregious behavior. Individuals that must adhere to the principles include, but are not limited to, coaching staff members, support personnel, student-athletes, Conference office staff members, representatives of a member institution’s department of athletics, band members, cheerleaders and institutional mascot: 1) Individuals shall exhibit respect and courtesy toward game officials, student-athletes, coaches, team personnel, athletic administrators, Conference office staff members and spectators. Individuals shall refrain from personal conduct that may incite spectators. Violations of the Sportsmanship Code include, but not limited to the following: a) Striking, attempting to strike or otherwise physically abusing an official, coach, spectator or student-athlete; b) Intentionally inciting participants or spectators to inappropriate action; or c) Using obscene gestures or unduly provocative language or action toward a game official, Conference personnel, another institution, a student-athlete or personnel of another institution, coach or spectator.

2) Individuals shall refrain from all public criticism, inclusive of all forms of communication, relative to game officials, student-athletes, coaches, team personnel, athletic administrators, Conference office staff members or spectators. 3) Only Conference office staff members (e.g., Commissioner, Coordinator of Officials) are permitted to enter the locker room of a game official to discuss game activities. A coach or student-athlete should never enter a game official’s locker room. 4) Public communication regarding a code of sportsmanship violation may be subject to sanctions. Violations of the rules listed above, and/or poor sportsmanship not necessarily described in detail above, may subject the individual to penalties, including letter of admonishment, public reprimand and/or suspension from participation by the member institution and/or the Conference. Penalties are determined on a case-by-case basis. Should a violation of one of the principles occur, the following process is to be executed: Initiation of Potential Violation 1) Once a member institution is aware that a potential violation has taken place, the respective Director of Athletics or designee must contact the Commissioner and/or designated Conference office staff member immediately. 2) Once the Conference office is aware that a potential violation has taken place, the Commissioner and/or designated Conference office staff member must contact the Director of Athletics of the involved institution(s) within 24 hours. 3) The institution shall provide a written report to the Conference Office within 24 hours detailing the circumstances surrounding the potential violation, any mitigating factors and any actions taken by the institution. Commissioner’s Findings and Report 1) The Commissioner and/or designated Conference office staff member will conduct a formal review, including reviewing the report submitted by the institution, to determine if a violation has in fact occurred. 2) At the conclusion of the formal review, the Commissioner and/or designated Conference office staff member will issue a report confirming whether a violation took place. This report will be provided to the Director(s) of Athletics and/or designees of the institution(s) involved within three (3) business days of being notified of the occurrence of the event. 3) This report will include the Commissioner’s and/or designated Conference office staff member’s findings and penalties, if any, to be imposed. The Commissioner reserves the right to adopt and acknowledge the institution’s recommended sanctions. The Commissioner may also reconsider new information if presented in a timely manner.

Acceptance or Objection to Commissioner’s Report 1) The Director(s) of Athletics and/or designee of the involved institution(s) shall submit a written response to the Commissioner indicating a formal acceptance or objection to the matter. In the event either of the involved institutions believes the Commissioner’s finding and/or penalty is inappropriate, insufficient or excessive in nature, an appeal may be initiated by that Director of Athletics and/or designee. 2) The intent to appeal must be filed in writing to the Commissioner within 24 hours of receiving the Commissioner’s report. Appeal Process 1) Overview and Preparation for Appeal a) The Executive Sportsmanship Committee (1) Shall hear and consider the appeal and shall do so as expeditiously as possible. Any individual on the Committee that is representing one of the involved institutions must be recused. (2) Decision of the Committee shall be final. b) The Director of Athletics and/or designee (1) Must participate in the hearing (2) Must submit a written statement outlining the reasons for the appeal to the Executive Sportsmanship Committee at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. (3) Must provide Opening Statement at Hearing (Closing Statement is optional) c) Commissioner and/or Designated Conference Office Staff Member (1) Will provide the report, along with other relevant material (e.g., video, media reports, statements by witnesses, etc.) for the Committee’s consideration. (2) Must provide Opening Statement at Hearing (Closing Statement is optional) 2) Appeal Hearing via Teleconference a) Meeting called to order by Chair of Committee b) Opening Statement by Director of Athletics who submitted the appeal c) Opening Statement by Commissioner and/or designated Conference office staff member d) Hearing open for discussion among all individuals participating e) Closing Statements may be made by Director of Athletics and/or Commissioner f) Chair will excuse the institution’s representatives and the Committee will then deliberate and make a determination to uphold, modify, or reject the Commissioner’s decision. g) The Commissioner and/or designated Conference office staff member will notify the Director of Athletics who submitted the appeal.

3) Decision The decision of the Executive Sportsmanship Committee shall be final. 4) Communication Once the process has concluded, the Commissioner and/or designated Conference office staff member will provide the outcome to all Conference member institutions’ Directors of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrators via ShareFile. Notes: 1) There will be situations (e.g., suspensions) where the penalty and/or appeal may not be processed prior to the institution’s next competition. If that occurs, the penalty would be assessed during the first competition after the matter has been resolved. 2) If a penalty or suspension is imposed at or near the end of a season of competition, the penalty may be carried over into the next season of competition. 3) The Executive Sportsmanship Committee is comprised of the AD Executive Committee and two (2) additional Senior Woman Administrators. These two Senior Woman Administrators will serve two- year terms. A minimum of three (3) Committee members must participate in an appeal [Two (2) Directors of Athletics and One (1) Senior Woman Administrator]. Committee members must participate in the appeal hearing via teleconference. There will be no proxy votes. Suspension Guidelines: The institution with a suspended student-athlete, coach, band member, cheerleader or mascot bears all responsibility for making sure the involved individual(s) adhere to the parameters of the suspension. 1) Suspension-Student-Athlete: On the days a student-athlete is suspended from a competition, he/she shall not participate and shall not be present in the playing venue from the time the team reports on call for the competition through the time the team is officially released from the competition. 2) Suspension-Coach: A coach cannot be present in the involved playing venue while he/she is serving the suspension from the time the team is required to report on call for the competition until the team has departed the playing venue. On the day(s) a coach is suspended from a competition, he/she may not have contact or communication with the institution’s team and institution’s personnel and coaches during the time as defined above. 3) Suspension-Band Member, Cheerleader, Mascot: On the days a band member, cheerleader or mascot is suspended from a competition, he/she shall not participate and shall not be present in the playing venue during the competition and any activities (prior to or after) associated with the competition.

RULES INTERPRETATIONS

The Compliance Staff will provide interpretations of NCAA rules via phone and correspondence. When necessary, the Compliance Staff will work with the NCAA or other Division I conference's compliance coordinators to resolve interpretative issues. When requested, the Compliance Staff will give a written response to an interpretative question only if the question was provided in writing, general correspondence or e-mail to the Conference office.

In general, all interpretative questions from institutional employees or boosters should go through that institution's compliance coordinator. However, the Compliance Staff may answer questions from institutional employees or boosters provided the institution’s compliance coordinator is made aware of the matter.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

On an as needed basis the Compliance Staff will provide legislative updates to member institution's directors of athletics, compliance personnel, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives and coaches on various timely legislative issues.

RULES EDUCATION

Approximately once a month during the academic year the Compliance Staff will provide educational aids to help institutional compliance personnel, directors of athletics, coaches and other athletic department personnel.

IN-HOUSE TRAINING / ORIENTATION CALL

The Compliance Staff will provide a training program which allows an institution's compliance coordinator or other individuals with compliance responsibilities to come to the Conference office and receive training at the Conference office in any area of rules compliance in which special help is requested. Transportation and lodging will be the institution's responsibility.

MONTHLY CONFERENCE CALLS

The Compliance Staff shall coordinate and conduct monthly conference calls with The American compliance coordinators during the academic year. Senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives and other athletic department personnel are invited to participate in said calls at the institution’s discretion. The conference call will be used to update compliance coordinators on timely matters, discuss common problems and review interpretative issues. These calls are recorded and the minutes will be kept on file with the Conference Office. The compliance staff is responsible for following up on any unresolved issues and for reporting to the Directors of Athletics at the first applicable in-person meeting any legislative recommendations of the member institutions.

CCA COMPLIANCE COORDINATORS CONFERENCE CALL

The Compliance Staff is responsible for participating in the Collegiate Commissioners Association compliance coordinators conference calls and reporting any important information from those calls to The American compliance coordinators. The compliance staff will also attend one in-person meeting annually.

AMERICAN ANNUAL RULES COMPLIANCE SEMINAR

The Compliance Staff will be responsible for coordinating The American annual rules compliance seminar. This seminar may include presentations by a representative(s) from the NCAA staff and other individuals as deemed necessary. Compliance personnel from each member institution will be invited to participate in the seminar. When deemed appropriate, an additional group of institutional employees responsible for understanding NCAA rules will be invited to participate in the seminar. The Compliance Staff along with each institution's compliance coordinator shall determine the agenda for the seminar as well as which additional group of institutional employees should be invited to attend.

CONFERENCE OFFICE ENFORCEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

The investigation of alleged violations and the reporting of violations are an institutional obligation. When requested, the Compliance Staff may assist institutions in processing NCAA violations. The Compliance Staff shall help institutions identify violations by applying the legislation and interpretations to known factual situations. Once it is determined that a violation has occurred, it is the responsibility of the institution to report the violation using the appropriate procedures established by the NCAA and the Conference. However, when requested by the institution, the Compliance Staff may assist the institution in processing such violations by:

1. Assisting the institution in identifying the appropriate violation designation (Level I-IV); 2. Assisting the institution in identifying any mitigating circumstances;

3. Assisting the institution in determining the appropriate institutional action that should be taken to remedy the situation; 4. Assisting the institution in determining appropriate penalties that would likely be accepted by the Enforcement Staff, the NCAA Committee on Infractions, the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Staff, or the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee;

5. Assisting the institution in processing Level III violations through correspondence to the Enforcement Staff; 6. Assisting the institution in processing Level I and II violations through summary disposition, or a hearing with the Committee on Infractions or;

7. Assisting the institution in processing any eligibility appeals through the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Staff, or the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee.

[Note: Requests for Conference assistance regarding Level I and II violations will be handled by the Commissioner and/or the Compliance Staff.]

CONFERENCE OFFICE ENFORCEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES (continued) The Compliance Staff’s responsibilities do not include investigating allegations of violations regarding the actions of a member institution regardless of whether those allegations are from someone within or outside the Conference. However, once an institution has decided to investigate allegations of a potential violation(s) the institution may request the Compliance Staff to assist in the investigation of the allegations. Please be advised that such a request must be approved by the Commissioner who will consider the cost to the Conference and the time commitment required of the Compliance Staff in making this decision.

When allegations of a violation committed by a member institution comes from a coach or administrator at an institution within the Conference, the Compliance Staff’s responsibility is to act as a mediator or facilitator not as an investigator. One acceptable method for carrying out this duty would be for the Compliance Staff to distribute a memo to all Directors of Athletics, Compliance Coordinators and Coaches of the sport in question indicating how the application of NCAA legislation and/or interpretations apply to the alleged facts in question. It would then be the responsibility of the institution(s) to determine whether or not they are in compliance. If an institution is not in compliance, it is the institution’s responsibility to report any violations to the NCAA. If the institution(s) ignores the memo and a member institution has concrete evidence that the institution(s) is in violation, such information should be forwarded to that institution's Director of Athletics and Compliance Coordinator as well as the Conference Commissioner and Compliance Staff who will determine the appropriate remedy for the situation.

Level III Violations Pursuant to the rules established by the NCAA, institutions will have the responsibility of reporting Level III violations to the NCAA. The Conference office has the ability to review and take any additional action for said violations.

Level IV Violations Level IV violations are submitted to the Conference Office. Institutions shall submit Level IV violations to the Conference Office via the NCAA’s RSRO system. Upon submitting a Level IV violation, institutions should add the Senior Director of Compliance as a signatory to their report in order for the Conference to review. Each institution is responsible for submitting its Level IV violations to the Conference office in a timely manner (e.g., as they occur).

Conference Sanction Policy The Commissioner and the Compliance Staff will monitor all NCAA infractions cases with the institution in question. In those cases where NCAA sanctions, fines and forfeitures could directly and negatively impact the Conference, the following procedures will apply:

1. Level I and II Violations

a. The Conference reaffirms that the investigation and the sanction process for violations of NCAA rules and regulations rest with the institution and the NCAA. However, the Conference retains the prerogative of reviewing and taking additional action on a case-by-case basis.

b. If penalties imposed by the NCAA, The American or self-imposed by the institution prohibit postseason competition in a particular sport(s), the institution penalized shall not be eligible to participate in postseason conference championship events in that sport(s) during the years the institution is not eligible for postseason bowl or NCAA Championship Competition. In addition, if the institution is fined by the NCAA or is required to return funds to the NCAA as a result of sanctions against it or due to the participation of an ineligible student-athlete, that institution shall be solely responsible for the payment of these funds.

c. The director of athletics for the affected institution will provide to the Commissioner a list of its sanctions after official notification by the NCAA. If practicable, the institution will provide to the Commissioner this information prior to it being announced publicly. Until such public announcement, however, all information is to be held in the strictest of confidence.

d. When the institution has exhausted all its administrative remedies with the NCAA (e.g., appeal to the Infractions Appeals Committee) the commissioner has the authority to recommend to the Executive Committee further conference sanctions/penalties.

e. If the Commissioner determines that additional sanctions/penalties should be imposed by the Conference, the Commissioner will notify the director of athletics of the affected institution and provide a copy of the NCAA report along with the Commissioner’s recommended additional sanctions/penalties to the Executive Committee. After receipt of this documentation, the Executive Committee will convene a conference call to discuss the case and accept or modify the Commissioner’s recommendation(s). The director of athletics of the affected institution may be asked to participate in the initial segment of the Executive Committee’s call to answer questions for purposes of clarification, and then be required to leave the call.

f. The Executive Committee’s recommendation(s) will be forwarded to the Presidents to be accepted or modified.

g. The Presidents will convene a conference call or meeting to review the recommendation(s) of the Executive Committee. The President of the affected institution may be asked to participate in the initial segment of that session for purposes of clarification and may then be required to leave the session.

h. Final action taken by the Presidents will be made known immediately to the Commissioner who will notify the affected institution, and the other members of the Conference.

2. Level III and IV Violations Resulting in No NCAA Fine or Forfeiture

a. The institution will report the violation using the appropriate procedures established by the NCAA and the Conference. b. If the NCAA’s response is to accept the institution’s corrective action without imposing a fine or forfeiture the Conference office will maintain on file the institution’s self-report.

3. Level III and IV Violations Resulting in an NCAA Fine or Forfeiture

a. The institution will provide the Conference office with a copy of the self-report that was submitted to the NCAA. b. The Conference office will hold the institutional report until the NCAA sends a response letter to the institution and Conference office. c. If the NCAA’s response is to fine the institution but not forfeit any contests or individual records, then the payment of the fine is the institution’s responsibility and the Conference office will maintain on file the institution’s self-report and the NCAA’s response.

d. If the NCAA’s response is to include forfeiture of contest(s) or individual record(s) inclusive or exclusive of a fine due to the use of an ineligible student-athlete, the Commissioner along with the Compliance Staff may impose an additional penalty requiring the institution to be subject to an external review of the institution’s compliance monitoring system(s) in place to monitor the specific compliance area in which the violation occurred. i. The Commissioner and/or the Compliance Staff will determine the individual(s) who will conduct the external review. ii. The individual(s) conducting the external review will report their findings to the Commissioner and/or the Compliance Staff who will determine if any additional corrective actions or sanctions (e.g., public censure) should be imposed on the institution. iii. The Commissioner and the Compliance Staff may report the findings, corrective actions and any other sanctions to the Executive Committee. iv. The Executive Committee may accept or modify the Commissioner’s recommended corrective action(s) and/or additional sanction(s). v. The affected institution may appeal the Commissioner’s recommended actions and/or additional sanctions to the Executive Committee. Notice of the request for appeal must be received by the Commissioner within 60 days from the institution’s receipt of the Conference’s letter of corrective action(s) and/or sanction(s). vi. All requests must be approved by the Executive Committee who will determine the appeal process. If the Executive Committee denies the request for an appeal, the original corrective action(s) and/or sanction(s) imposed by the Commissioner must be carried out by the institution.

COACHES CERTIFICATION EXAM The Compliance Staff will coordinate and distribute the NCAA Coaches Certification Program materials as they are received from the NCAA. All testing materials are provided to the compliance coordinator at each member institution. It is up to the institution to determine who will administer the exam on campus. Institutions are encouraged, but not mandated, to administer the test online. All results, including those from hard-copy exams, must be entered into the online coaches’ certification test website.

NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT PROGRAM The Compliance Staff shall be responsible for coordinating the National Letter of Intent. Additionally, the Compliance Staff shall be responsible for maintaining all valid National Letters of Intent on file in the Conference office and forwarding a list of signees to the NCAA. All institutions are required to participate in the National Letter of Intent program in all Conference sports. Letters should be filed with the Conference according to the rules and regulations governing the National Letter program. Letters of Intent signed by student-athletes who seek to participate in non-conference sports also should be filed with the Conference according to the same procedures.

PROGRESS TOWARD DEGREE WAIVERS Progress toward degree waivers (i.e. medical absence and international competition waivers) will be administered by the Compliance Staff. A Conference form for these waivers will be distributed via email at the beginning of the academic year and maintained in the compliance section of The American website. Information forwarded to the Compliance Staff should include a cover memo outlining the facts plus the appropriate medical documentation, academic transcripts, team schedules, a copy of official documentation of withdrawal, and a HIPAA form signed by the student-athlete for waivers that involve a student-athlete’s medical condition.

MEDICAL HARDSHIP WAIVERS Medical hardship waivers will be administered by the Compliance Staff. Conference forms for these waivers will be distributed at the beginning of the academic year and maintained in the compliance section of the American website. Information forwarded to the Compliance Staff should include a cover memo outlining the facts plus the appropriate contemporaneous medical documentation, physicians’ statement, player statistics, team schedules, and a HIPAA form signed by the student- athlete.

NCAA WAIVERS The Compliance Staff, when requested, will offer interpretive support to member institutions’ compliance coordinators in applying for any of the available NCAA waivers

INTRA-CONFERENCE TRANSFER POLICY

A student-athlete may transfer from one American institution to another American institution and participate in any sport provided that: 1. Prior to competing for or receiving athletically related financial aid from the second Conference institution, the student-athlete serves a year in residency at the second Conference institution [two full semesters or three full quarters (which shall be determined in accordance with NCAA rules associated with transfers)]. During such year of residency, the student-athlete is permitted to practice pursuant to NCAA practice eligibility rules. Further, a transfer student-athlete admitted after the 12th class day may not utilize that semester for the purpose of establishing residency. 2. The student-athlete shall be charged with the loss of one (1) season of eligibility (in all sports). 3. There are no exceptions or waivers to this policy. Special Notations

 A student-athlete who signs a valid National Letter of Intent with an American institution, and is subsequently granted a complete release to said NLI or is granted a release by the NLI Steering Committee, is NOT subject to the above-mentioned transfer policy for the sport in which they signed the NLI unless said student-athlete triggers transfer status (as defined by NCAA bylaws).  A student-athlete who signs a valid National Letter of Intent with an American institution that is subsequently declared null and void (as set forth in Section 7 of the NLI), is NOT subject to the above-mentioned transfer policy as long as said student-athlete did not trigger transfer status (as defined by NCAA bylaws) prior to the NLI being declared null and void.  The above-mentioned policy is applicable to all student-athletes who have ever enrolled full-time at an American institution (e.g., four-two-four transfers, four-four-four transfers). However, a four-two-four transfer is NOT subject to the above-mentioned transfer policy as long as said student-athlete graduates from the two- year institution. 41 CONFERENCE COMPLIANCE SERVICES

INTRA-CONFERENCE TRANSFER POLICY (continued) Special Notations continued

 Institutions are not permitted to enter into s eparate arrangements that would in any way alter the terms and conditions of the above-stated policy (e.g., allowing a student-athlete to transfer but to not compete against the institution that they transferred from).  In all sports, a student that was not recruited, has never received athletically related financial aid and was never a student-athlete (per NCAA definition), is NOT subject to the terms and conditions of the above-stated policy.  In all sports, non-recruited student-athletes that never received athletically related financial aid are NOT subject to terms and conditions of the above-stated policy.  The American Athletic Conference intra-conference transfer policy does NOT apply to:

a. Student-athletes who participate in sports in which the American Athletic Conference does not sponsor (e.g., men’s ice hockey, women’s ice hockey or women’s gymnastics, etc.). b. Student-athletes who compete in sports in which the Conference does sponsor, but which a member institution does not participate as a member of the Conference for that sport.

MINIMUM QUALIFYING STANDARDS POLICY

The American and its member institutions reaffirm their commitment to maintain the vital role of intercollegiate athletics as an ongoing and integral part of the educational program and the student-athlete as a major part of the student body. Toward this end, each and every American intercollegiate athletic program shall be maintained in a manner that is consistent with policies and procedures of the NCAA, The American as well as their institution’s standards of admission, academic standing and academic progress. Specifically, the following is hereby resolved regarding minimum qualifying standards: 1. General Rule A recruited or non-recruited student-athlete who does not achieve the NCAA academic minimum qualifying standards (non-qualifier) for athletic competition upon initial full-time enrollment at an American member institution shall not be permitted to compete in athletics at an American member institution. Additionally, a recruited or non-recruited student-athlete that meets any of the exceptions listed within this policy is still subject to meeting NCAA legislative requirements. Lastly, there are no waivers to this policy, except as noted in II-A-2 and III-E. 2. Initial Eligibility a. A recruited or non-recruited student-athlete who meets any of the following exceptions is not subject to the minimum qualifying standards policy: 1) A recruited or non-recruited student-athlete initially enrolling full time in a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/16 who is deemed an academic redshirt (as defined by the NCAA). 2) A recruited or non-recruited student-athlete who receives an approved waiver from the NCAA that declares the student-athlete eligible for competition, practice and/or financial aid who otherwise by definition does not meet the NCAA minimum academic qualifying standards. In such cases, these student-athletes are permitted to enroll at American member institutions. b. A student that achieves the NCAA academic minimum qualifying standards after they have graduated from high school but prior to initial full-time enrollment (i.e., attends a prep school, attends a community college part time, retakes a standardized test to achieve a better score) would be permitted to initially enroll at a American member institution and compete in athletics.

3. Transfer Eligibility It shall be noted that besides meeting the applicable transfer requirements below, any transfer (e.g., 2-4, 4-4, 4-2-4) who was a non-qualifier out of high school must be immediately academically eligible upon their transfer to an American institution (other than serving a required year in residence) in order to not be subject to the minimum qualifying standards policy.

a. In order for a non-qualifier out of high school to be eligible to transfer to an American institution from a two-year junior college, he or she must first graduate with an associate’s degree and meet all NCAA and member institution’s minimal eligibility regulations. If these standards are met, the student-athlete shall then be eligible for financial aid, practice and athletic competition at an American member institution.

b. A two-year junior college transfer is not subject to the minimum qualifying standards policy if they meet any of the following exceptions: 1) A recruited or non-recruited student-athlete initially enrolling full time in a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/12 who meets the provisions of bylaw 14.5.4.2.2 (2-4 transfer - aid and practice only), 2) A recruited or non-recruited student-athlete initially enrolling full time in a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/16 who meets the provisions of bylaw 14.5.4.2.2 (2-4 transfer – aid and practice only), or 3) A recruited or non-recruited student-athlete initially enrolling full time in a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/16 who meets the provisions of bylaw 14.5.4.3 (2-4 academic redshirt transfer). c. In order for a non-qualifier out of high school to be eligible to transfer to an American institution from a non-American four-year institution(s), he or she must have completed a year of residency at the non-American institution(s) and meet all NCAA and member institution’s minimal eligibility regulations. If these standards are met, the student-athlete shall then be eligible for financial aid, practice and athletic competition at an American member institution. d. In order for a non-qualifier out of high school to be eligible to transfer to a American institution, a student athlete initially enrolled at a non-American four-year institution who later transferred to a two-year institution can become eligible for enrollment at a member school provided he or she meets all NCAA and member institution’s minimal eligi bility regulations. If these standards are met, the student-athlete shall be then eligible for financial aid, practice and athletic competition at an American member institution. e. A recruited or non-recruited transfer student-athlete who receives an approved waiver from the NCAA that declares the student-athlete eligible for competition, practice and/or financial aid who otherwise by definition does not meet the NCAA minimum academic qualifying standards. In such cases, these student-athletes are permitted to enroll at American member institutions. 4. Exclusions The American minimum qualifying standards policy does not apply to: a. Student-athletes who participate in sports in which the American does not designate a champion or sponsor a championship (e.g., men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s rifle, men’s and women’s fencing or women’s gymnastics). b. Student-athletes who compete in sports in which the Conference does sponsor a championship, but which a member institution does not participate as a member of the Conference for that sport (e.g., the institution has been granted permission by the Conference for the sport to be federated).

CONFERENCE POSTSEASON ELIGIBILITY POLICY Any team of a member institution, that for any reason is ineligible in a given year from participating in postseason competition (e.g., NCAA championships, bowl games, NIT, WNIT, etc.), shall similarly be prohibited in that same year from participating in the respective Conference season-ending championship.

NCAA CONFERENCE CONTACT

The Compliance Staff will participate in the NCAA Conference Contact Program and act as facilitators between the NCAA Academic and Membership Affairs staff and the Conference member institutions.

CONFERENCE MINORITY GRANT PROGRAM On an annual basis, an institution may apply for a stipend from the Conference Minority Grant Program ($10,000). This stipend shall be used to fund a new position(s) within the institution's athletic department for an ethnic or racial minority. The stipend may be awarded to the same individual(s) for a maximum of two consecutive years. Thereafter, the funds must be utilized for a new position(s) and/or person(s). The position(s) can be administrative or coaching. The position(s) may not include coaching duties in the sports of Basketball or Football but the fund may be utilized for coaching positions in other Conference or Non-Conference sports. Application forms for the stipend will be provided by the Conference at the beginning of the academic year. Distribution of the stipend will be available at the beginning of each academic year. The Compliance Staff is responsible for distribution of approval letters and checks.

SWA PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANT PROGRAM On an annual basis, an institution may apply for a stipend from the SWA Professional Development Grant Program (up to $2000). The stipend should be used to assist women and ethnic minority coaches and administrators with professional growth and development opportunities. These grants are for full-time coaches and administrators. Each institution has $2000 per academic year to cover the actual cost of an established development program’s registration or tuition and travel for one or more recipients. Application and expense forms will be provided by the Conference at the beginning of the academic year. An application form for each development program should be sent to the Compliance Office for approval prior to incurring the expense. After the event has occurred, the institution shall submit an expense form to the Compliance Office (along with receipts) to be processed by the Conference Office. The Compliance Staff is responsible for distribution of approval letters and checks.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE FUND (SAF) The Compliance Staff will administer the Student Assistance Fund (former Student-Athlete Opportunity Fund and Special Assistance Fund) in accordance with NCAA policies. The Compliance Staff shall be responsible for specific interpretive matters regarding the permissible uses of the fund. Each institution is responsible for the day-to-day processing (and eventual reporting to the NCAA at the end of the academic year) of all SAF requests on their campus. In late August / early September each institution will receive a check or electronic transfer from the Conference Office representing the institution’s annual allocation as determined by the NCAA. Each institution is responsible for submitting the final report of their corresponding SAF usage to the NCAA via the NCAA’s Revenue Distribution Portal at the end of each academic year. As required by the NCAA, the Conference Office will review each institution’s final SAF report to the NCAA at the end of the academic year.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE FUND (SAF) – GUIDELINES The Student Assistance Fund (SAF) is intended to provide direct benefits to student-athletes or their families as determined by conference offices. As a guiding principle, the fund shall be used to assist student-athletes in meeting financial needs that arise in conjunction with participation in intercollegiate athletics, enrollment in an academic curriculum or that recognize academic achievement. Accordingly, receipt of Student Assistance Fund monies shall not be included in determining the permissible amount of financial aid that a member institution may award to a student-athlete. It is encouraged that preference for the Student Assistance Fund continue to be given to those student-athletes who display a financial need for assistance. Further, inasmuch as the fund is designed to provide direct benefits to student- athletes, the fund is not intended to be used to replace existing budget items.

All student-athletes, including international, are eligible to receive Student Assistance Fund benefits, regardless of whether they are grant-in-aid recipients, have demonstrated need or have either exhausted eligibility or no longer participate due to medical reasons. Participants on non-NCAA sponsored sport teams are not eligible to receive SAF funds.

Except for prospective student-athletes who have triggered student-athlete status in accordance with Bylaw 13.02.12, no prospective student-athlete shall be eligible to receive SAF funds. The following are restrictions on the use of the funds:

1) Salaries and Benefits 2) Grants-in-aid (other than summer school) for student-athletes with remaining eligibility. 3) Capital improvements. 4) Stipends. 5) Athletic development opportunities; fees and other expenses associated with private sports-related instruction provided to a student-athlete; 6) Fees and other expenses associated with a student-athlete’s participation in a sports camp or clinic; 7) Fees for other athletic development experiences (e.g., greens fees, batting cage rental); and 8) Expenses associated with a student-athlete’s participation in a foreign tour.

Conference offices will continue to serve as fund administrators for their member institutions. The responsibility for oversight and administration of the fund, including interpretations, rests solely with the conferences. The Leadership Council shall establish the guiding principles of the fund. A conference may accumulate not more than the total allocation received over the previous two years. The succeeding allocation will be forfeited if that amount is exceeded.

Conferences and institutions will be required to report annually to the NCAA the fund recipients by sport and gender, as well as the purposes for which the moneys were used and the amounts for each purpose. Grant-in-aid and Pell grant information will also be required for annual reporting for the Student Assistance Fund.

The following are permissible uses of the fund (list is not exhaustive): 1) Financial aid for summer school 2) Academic Achievement awards 3) Fifth and/or sixth year of athletic aid 4) Graduation award

CONSTITUTIONAL PROVISIONS

The following summarizes the principles for American Governance. These principles have been approved by the Conference Presidents (CEOs). 1. CEO’s will select our representative to the NCAA Board of Directors and the Conference’s representative to the NCAA Presidential Forum. 2. Subject to approval of the Board, the Athletics Directors Committee shall select the nominees to be considered as the Conference’s representative on the NCAA Council. Nominees shall be from either a Member or shall be a senior staff member of the Conference and are subject to the NCAA’s diversity requirements. Per the NCAA governance procedures, the NCAA Board of Directors will select the Conference’s representatives from the slate of nominee’s submitted. Other NCAA governance committees (other than those at the presidential level) in which the Conference may be provided a dedicated seat will follow these selection guidelines. The remaining NCAA committees shall be subject to the nomination process set forth in the Conference policies and procedures manual. 3. The Conference’s representatives on the Board of Directors, the Council and the various Council Committees will vote according to the majority vote of the Conference. 4. If the Conference is unable to determine a majority position (e.g., a voting tie for a particular proposal), the Conference’s representatives on the Board of Directors, the Council and the various Council Committees shall use their discretion when casting the Conference’s vote. 5. The Conference will “withdraw” from a particular legislative cycle any legislative proposal submitted by the Conference for which the Conference position, after discussion and vote, is one of opposition. 6. On other federated matters (e.g., sport not sponsored by the Conference), the Conference’s position will be determined by a majority vote of the American institutions sponsoring applicable programs. However, if the Compliance Staff determines that a sport specific proposal dealing with a federated sport is potentially precedent setting within the NCAA governance structure, he or she shall have the authority to allow all Conference member institutions to vote on said proposal.

LEGISLATIVE PROCESS The following are the Conference legislative policies and procedures that have been approved by the Directors of Athletics. 1. Conference Sponsored Proposal

a. Any and all recommended changes in NCAA legislation must be forwarded in writing to the Compliance Staff by an athletic director of a member institution or by an athletic director’s designee (e.g., compliance administrator) with the athletic director’s approval. b. To guarantee consideration in a legislative cycle commencing on September 1 of each year, all recommended changes must be submitted to the Conference Compliance Staff (“Compliance Staff”) on or before April 15. Any recommended changes submitted after April 15, but prior to September 1, are not guaranteed for consideration within the closest new legislative cycle. c. Upon receipt of a recommended legislative change, the Compliance Staff will place said change on the agenda of the next scheduled American Compliance Conference call. The change will be discussed, and shortly after the call (in a time period and procedure to be announced on the call) all applicable member institutions will be responsible (pursuant to the legislative voting rules of the Conference) for submitting a vote either in support or opposition of the legislative change.

If a majority of member institutions vote to support the recommended change the Compliance Staff will process the recommendation into a proposal. e. The proposal will then be reviewed and voted on by the Conference’s Athletic Directors (if possible the above-mentioned review and vote will take place at the Conference’s Annual meeting). f. If a majority of the Conference’s Athletic Directors vote to support the proposal, the Compliance Staff will forward the proposal to the NCAA by the September 1 legislative deadline. g. The Compliance Staff will update the appropriate Conference representatives on the Board of Directors, Council or Council Committees as to the status of said proposal(s) as frequently as necessary.

2. Establishing Conference Positions on Proposals from the NCAA Membership a. In the years in which the Conference has representation on the Legislative Committee, and as soon as practical after the September 1 submission deadline but prior to the start of the September/October Legislative Committee meeting, the Compliance Staff will seek initial comments from the membership on the proposals submitted to the NCAA.

b. On or about October 1 of each year, the NCAA will release a “web-based” publication containing new proposed NCAA legislation that will be considered at the April Council meetings. The Compliance Staff will ensure that said publication is distributed, via email, to the AD, FAR, SWA and applicable compliance personnel on each member institution’s campus.

c. At its September/October meeting, the NCAA Legislative Committee will review all proposals (conference, Council, autonomy) and develop points of consideration, recommended positions and recommended feedback for consideration by the full Council. The committee will also suggest possible amendments for Council consideration.

1. The NCAA Council will take preliminary positions on all nonautonomy proposals and suggest feedback to provide to the autonomy conferences on autonomy proposals. Such positions will be reflected in the Council report.

2. Council-sponsored proposals that are both time-sensitive and impact student-athlete well-being may be voted on in January. Such proposals will be identified by the NCAA Legislative Committee for consideration during the Council’s fall meeting.

d. November 1 is the deadline for sponsors to modify proposals, which may refine and change a proposal in any manner that is germane to the original proposal. November 15 is the final deadline for amendments, which may not increase the scope of the original legislation.

e. Between November 16 and the end of December, the Compliance Staff will organize topical conference calls (e.g., recruiting, financial aid, eligibility) in order to review and discuss the new legislative proposals and any potential amendments. The Compliance Staff will prepare the materials needed for each conference call and will distribute said materials to the AD, FAR, SWA and applicable compliance personnel on each member institution’s campus. It will be the decision of the institution as to who from the institution actually participates on the conference calls. However, institutions are encouraged to seek feedback from all affected constituents, including student-athletes, coaches, faculty athletic representatives and athletic administrators.

LEGISLATIVE PROCESS (continued) Establishing Conference Positions on Proposals from the NCAA Membership continued f. On or about December 10, voting sheets will be forwarded to each institution. The completed voting sheets must be returned to the Conference Staff no later than January 5 at 5:00 pm Eastern. The Conference Staff will compile the information and forward the information and comments to the Council (and, when applicable, Legislative Committee) representative.

1. The institution shall indicate its preliminary position (support, oppose or abstain) for each proposal and provide any comments to be communicated to the Conference’s Council and Council Committee representatives.

2. For those proposals identified in the fall Council meeting to be considered for adoption in January, the voting position submitted by each institution shall be considered final.

g. At the NCAA Convention in January, the Legislative Committee shall conduct a forum for represenatatives from every Division I institution to discuss the proposals and provide feedback to the Committee and Council. In addition, at the Convention, autonomy legislation will be adopted by the autonomy conferences, and the Council may adopt the nonautonomy legislation identified at its fall meeting for consideration in January.

h. At the February meeting of the Conference’s Directors of Athletics, the Conference Staff will review the proposals adopted at the NCAA Convention as well as discuss the remaining proposals that will be considered at the April Council meeting.

i. In early/mid-March legislative voting sheets will be sent to each institution in preparation for an American Legislative Conference Call. This call will take place in late March/early April for the purpose establishing a Conference position on any and all legislative proposals that remain in the legislative cycle for a vote in April. On the voting sheet, the institution shall indicate its position (support, oppose or abstain) for each proposal and provide any comments to be communicated to the Conference’s Council and Council Committee representatives.

j. Once all of the votes have been cast and the Conference Call has concluded the Compliance Staff will prepare a summary document for the Conference’s Council (and, when applicable, Legislative Committee) Representative in order for the representative to appropriately vote the Conference’s position at the April meeting.

k. At the April Council meeting, the Council will adopt or defeat the remaining nonautonomy legislative proposals. The Conference Staff will communicate the outcome of the vote as soon as practical after the conclusion of the meeting.

l. SPECIAL NOTE: Prior to the April Council and Board of Directors meetings, the Commissioner, the Compliance Staff and/or the President’s Executive Committee may identify legislative proposals requiring input from each institution’s President. If a separate legislative conference call or meeting of the Presidents is warranted to discuss these proposals, the Commissioner and the Compliance Staff will schedule a call or meeting for a time convenient for the majority of the Presidents who wish to participate. Finally, whenever practicable, legislative proposals that require presidential input should be included on the President’s agenda for their fall and spring meetings. If a proposal(s) were to rise to this level, the majority position of the Presidents on each legislative proposal would determine how the Conference representatives to the Council (and, when applicable, the Legislative Committee) would be directed to vote.

LEGISLATIVE PROCESS (continued) 3. Conference Representatives to the NCAA Council Committees a. After receipt of the agendas and supplements for the Council Committees (hereafter “Committee”) meeting, each American Committee Representative in conjunction with the Conference Staff, should identify those agenda items that the Committee Representatives would need to know the American majority position. The Conference Staff would be responsible for determining the American majority position and conveying it to the American Committee Representatives. The staff should determine the Conference position by survey or through a sense of the Athletic Directors’ fall, winter, spring or summer meetings. The Conference Staff and Committee representatives should use their best judgment in identifying only important agenda items for which the Committee Representative(s) will be responsible for knowing the American majority position. Otherwise, each Committee Representative should be permitted to use their best judgment when performing routine Committee responsibilities. b. All Legislative items on Committee agendas should be reviewed with the Compliance Staff to determine the American majority position. Committee Representatives working with the Compliance Staff may include agenda items on the American monthly compliance conference calls to get a sense of the Conference position on issues. When Committee agenda item(s) are placed on a conference call, the respective Committee representative would be required to be on the call. c. Following Committee meetings, Committee Representatives may be requested to provide an executive summary of the meeting to be forwarded to the Conference office for distribution to American institutions. The Conference Staff would determine which individuals on campus should receive copies of the information based on the Committee meeting and the actions taken.

d. Each Committee Representative may be required to do a written year end summary report to be presented to the Athletic Directors.

4. Majority Position Defined – NCAA Governance Issues a. When voting on issues associated with the NCAA Governance process, the American majority position shall be defined as a simple majority of the American institutions that are eligible to vote for a particular NCAA proposal.

b. If an institution abstains from voting or decides not to cast a vote on a particular proposal or issue, the institution’s position will be duly noted for the record but will not have a positive or negative impact with regard to determining the majority position of the Conference.

ACADEMIC AWARDS The American Athletic Conference confers its academic awards on an annual basis. The awards are divided into two general categories: 1) Scholarships and 2) Academic Awards Without Stipend. Selection of award recipients is based on consideration of scholastic performance and athletic ability. In some cases, service to the community and institution is also considered.

A. SCHOLARSHIPS 1. American Athletic Conference Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships Criteria and selection Twenty-two student-athletes (11 males, 11 females) will each receive a $2.000 post-graduate financial scholarship. The Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) of each institution, in consultation with the Director of Athletics and appropriate athletic academic advisors, will annually nominate one male and one female candidate by February 1 (if February 1 falls on a weekend, then nominees are due the Friday prior to February 1). All nominees must have: • maintained both excellent academic credentials (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00) and outstanding athletic performance. • competed in an American Athletic Conference sponsored sport. • attained a minimum of senior standing (as determined by the respective institution). The Academic Affairs Committee of the American Athletic Conference will review the nominees’ qualifications and advise the Conference of any discrepancies. The Conference will announce the award winners in early April following NCAA Basketball Championships.

2. American Athletic Conference Basketball Scholar-Athletes of the Year Criteria and selection Two basketball student-athletes (one male, one female) will each receive a $2,000 post-graduate financial scholarship. The FAR of each institution, in consultation with the Director of Athletics and appropriate athletic academic advisors, will annually nominate one male and one female candidate by February 1 (if February 1 falls on a weekend, then nominees are due the Friday prior to February 1). 5. Commissioner’s Postgraduate Leadership Award Criteria and selection Two student-athletes (one male, one female) will receive a scholarship of $5,000 each to be applied to their postgraduate education expenses. The FAR of each institution, in consultation with the Director of Athletics and appropriate athletic academic advisors, will nominate one male and one female annually by February 1 (if February 1 falls on a weekend, then nominees are due the Friday prior to February 1). All nominees must have:  participated in an American Athletic Conference sponsored sport within two years of the date of the nomination;  completed all athletic eligibility;  and been admitted to a degree-granting graduate or professional program. In addition, the nominees must:  demonstrate leadership through excellence in academic credentials (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25), outstanding athletic performance, and depth of commitment in service within the institution and/or in the community;  secure a letter of recommendation from a faculty member;  and provide a 750 word essay describing why they are pursuing their chosen graduate/professional program and what they plan to do with their degree upon completion of the program. The Academic Affairs Committee of the American Athletic Conference will review the nominees’ qualifications, advise the Conference of any discrepancies (e.g., a student-athlete’s nomination form is missing in the package although his/her name appears on the table of contents as being nominated, etc.) and make its selections by in early April following NCAA Basketball Championships. Normally, awards will not be granted to two student-athletes from the same institution. Once the selections are made the Conference will announce the award winners. Monies awarded should normally be used within two years, unless the Academic Affairs Committee grants an extension.

B. ACADEMIC AWARDS WITHOUT STIPEND 1. American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team Criteria and selection Each institution may annually submit an unlimited number of nominations by June 1 (if June 1 falls on a weekend, then nominees are due the Friday prior to June 1). All nominees must have: • participated in an American Athletic Conference sponsored sport. • attained a minimum GPA of 3.00 for the preceding academic year • completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses. The Academic Affairs Committee of the American Athletic Conference will review the nominees’ qualifications and advise the Conference of any discrepancies. In the case of a graduate student or a student in the final term of enrollment who is entitled to a waiver of the full-time enrollment requirement, the FAR of the nominating institution may submit to the Academic Affairs Committee (through the Conference office) a request for a waiver of the minimum credit requirement. The Conference will annually announce the recipients by late June.

2. Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards Criteria and selection The American Athletic Conference FARs will annually recognize one student-athlete from each sport sponsored by the American Athletic Conference. Each institution may annually nominate one student-athlete per sport by June 1 (if June 1 falls on a weekend, then nominees are due the Friday prior to June 1). The appropriate athletic academic advisors, in consultation with the Director of Athletics, will make nominations on an official one-page form that will be provided by the Conference. The institution may update a nominee’s application with pertinent information (e.g., other awards and accolades) after the deadline and up to the date of the selection meeting in July. All nominees must have:  established excellent academic credentials and honors (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00).

 earned athletic accolades for outstanding performance.  demonstrated volunteer service to the community and institution.  attained a minimum of junior standing (as determined by the respective institution). The American Athletic Conference FARs will review the nominees’ qualifications, advise the Conference of any discrepancies, and make the selections via online vote. The nomination criteria will be weighted based on the below scale:  40% weight for academic performance  40 % weight for athletic performance  20% for community service The Conference will announce the recipients by late June and will provide each student-athlete selected with an award in recognition of this honor. Tie-Breaker Procedure If there are two (2) student-athletes tied after the initial vote for the sports excellence award, both student-athletes are deemed co-award winners. In the event the tie contains more than two (2) student-athletes, the following Second-Level Voting Procedure will apply:

o The Second-Level Voting Procedure will require the FARs to next vote to remove from award consideration the appropriate number of student-athletes in the tie such that only TWO (2) student-athletes remain. The remaining two student-athletes will be deemed co-winners for that sport. . For example, if after the initial vote, there is a three-way tie, a second vote by all the FARs will be conducted, whereby each FAR selects one (1) student-athlete to be removed from consideration. The remaining two (2) student-athletes will be deemed co-winners of the award. In the situation of a four-way tie, each FAR will vote for two (2) student-athletes to be removed from consideration. . If after the Second-Level Voting Procedure, there is a deadlock of more than two (2) finalists, the Chair of The American FARs will select the two (2) finalists, unless one of the finalists is from the same institution as the Chair. In that case, the Chair will designate a FAR whose institution does not have a finalist in the pool to make the final determination of who will be the student-athlete(s) removed from consideration. The two (2) remaining student athletes will be deemed co-winners. 3. Team Academic Excellence Awards Criteria and Selection The American Athletic Conference will annually recognize the team in each Conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the preceding academic year. Each institution will calculate the GPA for each American Athletic Conference sponsored sport by a formula that weights each student’s GPA by credit hours completed and will annually submit the information to the Conference by June 1 (if June 1 falls on a weekend, then nominees are due the Friday prior to June 1). Please note the following relative to the team GPA:  Calculations will be based on all student-athletes on the team roster as of the last contest of the championship segment. o For sports that have a championship segment that is conducted only in the Fall semester - student-athletes that depart a team at the conclusion of the Fall semester would only have their GPA counted in the Fall semester, not the Spring semester. o For sports that have a championship segment that is conducted only in the Spring semester - student-athletes that are not part of the team for the Fall semester would only have their GPA counted for the Spring semester, not the Fall semester.  Male/female practice players as well as student-athletes who have been granted a permanent medical exemption (per bylaw NCAA 15.5.1.3) should not be included in the calculations.  All other student-athletes (e.g., “partial qualifiers”, medical hardships and redshirts) should be included in the calculations.  For the 2016-17 Team Academic Excellence Awards you are computing each team’s GPA for only the 2016-17 academic year. The Academic Affairs Committee of the American Athletic Conference will review the qualifications, advise the Conference of any discrepancies and make the selections. The Conference will announce the recipients by late June and will provide each team selected with an award in recognition of this honor.

CONFERENCE REVENUE DISTRIBUTION POLICIES

All income generated by the American Athletic Conference is part of the Conference general revenue pool. The annual Conference office operating budget is extracted from the revenue pool, and shares are distributed to the membership by June 30 of each fiscal year. The primary sources of Conference revenue are television rights fees, Conference bowls, Playoff shares, Conference championships, NCAA men’s basketball units, marketing sponsorships, NCAA pass-through funds and other ancillary revenue sources. The Conference’s budget process is outlined below: EARLY MAY: The preliminary Conference annual budget and finance report as prepared by the staff is reviewed by the Athletic Director Finance Committee. ANNUAL MEETING / ATHLETIC DIRECTORS: The Chair of the Finance Committee summarizes the endorsed report with the Athletic Directors at the Conference’s Annual Meeting. ANNUAL MEETING / PRESIDENTS: The Chair of the AD Finance Committee presents the recommended budget and finance report, and corresponding distribution schedule to the Board of Directors (Presidents) at the Conference’s Annual Meeting. The Board approves the Conference’s operating budget for the next fiscal year.

The Finance Administrator at each member institution, along with the Athletic Director, is informed during each step of the above budget process with supporting documentation. The financial contact is also apprised periodically of any approved modification that impacts expenses or revenue, particularly items with significant impact on member distributions. The finance administrators meet annually as a group to review the Conference’s policies and practices, share information, and provide feedback regarding the Conference’s annual Financial and Compensation Surveys.

REIMBURSEMENT POLICIES/CONFERENCE TRAVEL

Directors of Athletics The Conference reimburses the Athletic Directors' hotel and on-site meeting expenses associated with the fall, annual, summer and any special Conference meetings.

Hotel charges will be master billed to the Conference. Athletic Directors may book flights through The American travel agent, Pearson Travel (800) 336-1066 or through their own travel agent. In either case, air travel is an institutional expense.

Committee Members/Administrators The Conference is financially responsible for round-trip expenses (approved airfare, rental car or mileage) and hotel room charges for Conference Committee members when traveling to a championship site or a committee meeting. (Detailed Travel policies are provided prior to Committee travel.)

Institutions are financially responsible for round-trip expenses (airfare, rental car or mileage) for administrators traveling to a Conference meeting. Hotel room charges are a Conference expense.

The American travel agent, Pearson Travel, must be utilized by phone (800-336-1066) or email ([email protected] when making air or rental car travel arrangements (at least 30 days in advance of the trip).

Head Coaches

Institutions are financially responsible for round-trip expenses (airfare or mileage) for head coaches traveling to their annual Conference business meeting. Hotel room charges are a Conference expense. OLYMPIC SPORT COACHES GOVERNANCE & COMMITTEE PROCESS Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches Governance Process is outlined in their respective Policy Manuals which are published each year in October.

The following outlines the legislative process that Conference constituency groups must adhere to in requesting adjustments or changes relative to Championship and/or regular season policies, regulations, and formats.

Once a policy or decision is made, the appropriate time to question or request change for the following academic year is via the governance process/coaches business meeting. Questioning or failing to comply with league policy or procedure in-season or during a championship event is inappropriate.

A. COACHES ASSOCIATIONS

The head coaches of each Conference sport comprise the coaches association for that particular sport. Each coaches association shall: 1. Elect a president who serves as the liaison with the Conference staff, organizes the agenda for the annual meeting and may be required to offer opinion on behalf of the coaches group if the entire group cannot be polled. The president serves a two-year term. See page 31 for a complete listing of the Coaches Associations’ Officers. 2. Elect a vice president who handles the above duties for the president as necessary. The vice president serves a two-year term concurrent with the president. See page 31 for a complete listing of the Coaches Associations’ Officers. 3. Voice concerns and make recommendations for improvements, changes, etc., based on a majority vote, to the appropriate Committee.

Each coaches association conducts an “official” annual meeting with the American Staff and Senior Woman Administrators. Some meetings are conducted via conference call, some are conducted in Providence, Rhode Island (the Conference Office headquarters) and others are conducted at Championship sites. The Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches meet with the Directors of Athletics at the Conference’s annual meeting each May. Other meetings are conducted as follows:  The following coaches groups meet on an annual basis either in-person or via conference call: Cross Country/Track & Field, Women’s Rowing and Softball, M/W Tennis, Baseball (August); M/W Swimming & Diving (September); Men’s and Women’s Soccer (June).  Women’s Volleyball will meet annually at the AVCA Convention held at the site of the NCAA Championship (December).  Men’s and Women’s Golf will meet annually at the site of the Conference Championship on the day prior to the first round to discuss future business. Both groups will meet in December/January via conference call to discuss Championship-specific items in order for recommendations to be implemented for the Championship that spring. Only those coaches meetings conducted by the Conference are considered official meetings. During official meetings, attendance is mandatory for all head coaches. If an extreme situation occurs where the head coach cannot attend, the institution’s sport administrator or Director will determine the substitution.

The Sport & Championship Committees are comprised of the Conference’s institutional administrators, those with expertise or responsibility for that sport program. Sport Committees must be chaired by an Athletic Director, Associate Director or Assistant Director. Committee appointments are determined by the Commissioner’s office and terms are two or three years, but members may be reappointed based upon number of nominations and expertise available. See pages 29-30 for a complete listing of assignments and terms. Responsibilities of sport and championship committee members are as listed below: 1. Serve as the official games committee at the Championship site (primary role). Committee members are representing the Conference and not any one particular institution and therefore must conduct themselves accordingly. Decisions must benefit the conduct of the Championship, which may differ from institutional preference. 2. Take action upon request by an institution or by the SWAs. May be asked to review a coaches group’s proposal prior to the SWAs making a final decision. 3. Approve special scheduling requests or deviations from regular season regulations. 4. If a coaches business meeting is conducted at the Championship site, the Committee provides the coaches group advice relative to its recommendations as follows: historical perspective, legitimacy or potential effectiveness of the proposal, how the recommendation may impact Conference-wide policies and philosophies.

C. SENIOR WOMAN ADMINISTRATORS

The SWAs have a Chair and Vice-Chair. Their duties are as follows.

1. Authorized by the Directors of Athletics to take action on all matters pertaining to the Conference’s Olympic Sport Program. The SWAs must review all issues as forwarded from the coaches associations and sport & championship committees. If an issue is deemed highly sensitive or has significant financial implications, as determined by the Chair and/or the Staff Liaison, the Directors will review it. Action taken by the SWAs is mailed to each Director, who then has a three-week period to request that an issue be revisited at the next scheduled Directors’ meeting.

2. Charged with awarding championship dates and sites on a two-year cycle. The coaches group and/or sport & championship committee recommend appropriate/acceptable sites for the SWAs to consider.

3. May take action on appeals after a Sport & Championship Committee has rendered a decision, as necessary. Appeal Process (as defined by the SWAs)  All requests of a Sport & Championship Committee to review a matter must be made in writing, no later than 48 hours after the event, unless circumstances warrant an extension or reduction in the time limit as determined by the Conference staff. The written report must be signed by the Director of Athletics.  The Sport Committee’s decision will be viewed final unless there is evidence that proper procedures were not followed (as described above). In such a case, the SWAs will review.

4. At least one SWA member, inclusive of the Chair, will serve as a liaison at the coaches annual business meeting. The liaisons provide the coaches group advice relative to its recommendations as follows: historical perspective, legitimacy or potential effectiveness of the proposal, how the recommendation may impact conference-wide policies and philosophies.

COACHES GOVERNANCE & COMMITTEE PROCESS (continued) D. DIRECTORS OF ATHLETICS Beyond the committee process as outlined in steps 1, 2, and 3, the Directors of Athletics always have the ability to review or raise an issue with the membership.  Every head coach, committee member and Director of Athletics receives a summary of the recommendations and the action taken during each phase of the governance process.  After final action has been taken, it is the coaches responsibility to be aware of current policy. Being informed also allows you to have your Director of Athletics respond promptly if the situation warrants.

OLYMPIC SPORT TELEVISION POLICIES

The Conference has a multi-year agreement with ESPNU to produce a minimum of five live Olympic sports telecasts, primarily championship events (men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, and softball), with the option of adding early round championship telecasts and some regular season competition as well. There is also an agreement with CBSSN for a minimum seven Olympic sport telecasts annually (at least five which are baseball). Based on the Conference’s contract with these network, the following policies must be adhered to:  Until the Conference releases Olympic sport regular season inventory based on ESPNU, CBSSN, and the American Digital Network making their official priority selections, the American Athletic Conference retains the rights to all regular season Conference-controlled contests (Conference games and home non-conference games) in addition to all Conference championship events.  After those national network and ADN telecasts are selected, institutions may then televise locally in its market or on its website all its home Olympic sports telecasts.  If an institution needs release of a contest prior to the network selection deadline, the Conference staff will attempt to facilitate a waiver of the normal selection deadline policies. Until receiving that permission from the Conference staff, no institution may assign any television rights (including video streaming) to any competition in Conference sports to any national, regional, or local network.

LIVE STREAMING RIGHTS

ESPN holds exclusive streaming rights for all American controlled football and men’s basketball contests. Additionally, ESPN may select to stream any American controlled women’s basketball or Olympics sports contest on ESPN3 and WATCH ESPN. Subject to normal Conference office approval, institutions can stream on their own websites other women’s basketball and Olympic sports events after all Conference controlled television selections are made, including games produced for The American Digital Network.

63 GENERAL CONFERENCE POLICIES

CONFERENCE LICENSING POLICY The Conference recognizes and appreciates that each member school has its own specific licensing program for its own licensed products. However, for any Conference related items, the following licensing policies shall apply:

A. PROGRAM SPECIFICS: Any and all companies or individuals wishing to produce items bearing the Conference name/mark must become licensed with the Conference via its agent, the Learfield Licensing Partners. Any and all companies or individuals wishing to produce items bearing the Conference name/mark and a member school name/mark must become licensed with the Conference and with that member school. This includes promotional giveaway items that will not be resold. Royalties for the following products are to be processed through the Conference licensing program via Learfield:  All products with the Conference name/mark only (“standard” items).  All products with the Conference name/mark and any one member school name/mark (“co-branded” items).  All Conference Champions products (“champions” products).  All products with the Conference name/mark and more than one member school name/mark (“all” items). * Any and all items sold at Conference championship events and at any special events are included within this arrangement - championship event and special event licensees are not required to hold individual school licenses.

B. ROYALTY SPECIFICS:  The Conference royalty rates are: o “standard” licensed items = 5% o “co-branded” licensed items = 15% (10% for school, 5% for Conference) o “champions” licensed items = 15% (10% for school, 5% for Conference) o “all” licensed items = 15% o “championship event” licensed items = negotiated by the Conference, Learfield and vendor(s)  Royalty exemptions = Conference purchases of items bearing the Conference marks which are not for resale. Member school purchases of items bearing the Conference marks may be exempted from royalties with a written waiver approved by the Conference.  All vendors who sell licensed products are to report all sales of pertinent products to Learfield on a quarterly basis.  Learfield separates all royalties by type - Standard, Co-Branded, Champions, All - and retains a percentage of the gross Conference royalties - the gross royalties less the Learfield management share equals the NET Conference royalties. Exception: 100% of school shares of co-branded and Champions item royalties are distributed by Learfield to the school or to the school’s licensing agent.  The revenues due are distributed quarterly from Learfield to the Conference and to either the school directly or to the school’s licensing agent.  For all Standard, All and Championship event products, the Conference retains 100% of the net royalties, except that Learfield will receive 10% of the Conference’s share of Championship event commissions. The revenues generated to the Conference are distributed equally at year-end to the schools through the revenue pool distribution.

64 CHAMPIONSHIP CONDUCT POLICIES

FACILITIES

If an institution has serious objection to playing at another member’s facility because of safety concerns, the issue will be referred to the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is charged with making a determination and following up with the issue.

COMPETITIVE POLICY

Teams or individuals who qualify for American Championship competition are required to participate in the respective championship event or events.

SITES/DATES

Sites and dates for championships are determined by the SWAs. Recommendations by coaches groups and sport committees are taken into consideration, particularly regarding condition of facilities.

If an adjustment in the date or site becomes necessary, the host institution is required to notify the Conference staff immediately so that the SWAs may make the appropriate change.

TICKETS

At championships where admission is charged, American students are admitted free whenever possible as determined on a case-by-case basis. Decisions regarding admission ticket prices are made by the Conference staff with consideration to the policy normally practiced at the host institution. At all Olympic Sport team Championships, participating institutions will be provided with blank ticket charge back lists which will allow them to list individuals traveling to the event as an attendee. Each institution will be billed the applicable amount by the host institution/venue at the conclusion of the Championship.

CONFERENCE STAFF DUTIES

1. Review, approve and finalize budget submitted by the host institution within 10-15 days after receipt.

2. Conduct at least one meeting on site or via conference call with those involved in hosting the championship. If the host school and/or the Conference staff feel that more than one meeting is necessary, appropriate arrangements are made. The necessity for this meeting may be waived if a championship has been conducted by the same personnel at a site for a number of years.

3. If applicable, approve hotel selections and make all social event arrangements.

4. Email information to all institutions regarding championship 4-5 weeks prior to the event.

5. Work with host school's championship manager to ensure all facilities, personnel, etc. are appropriate and prepared for the event.

6. Order all awards and gifts for the championship. Deliver awards to site.

7. Produce a pre-championship press release and digital championship program, when applicable.

8. Coordinate sports information duties with host SID office.

9. The official photographer of the Conference, or a contracted individual, will be present at its league championships to capture images of the event. Photos will be exclusively available for resale on TheAmerican.org.

10. Work with host championship manager and his/her staff in handling any on-site problems during conduct of the event.

65 CHAMPIONSHIP CONDUCT POLICIES

MEMBER INSTITUTION

1. Each institution is responsible for confirming the travel/lodging arrangements for its team. Travel arrangements are to be made so that the team and coaches are present for all events associated with the championship.

2. If a headquarters hotel is chosen for a championship, teams MUST reside at that specific hotel. If the host institution is a participant in the Championship, they are NOT mandated to stay at the headquarters hotel and may stay on campus. If a headquarters hotel is not selected, teams may reside at a hotel of their choice.

3. Head coaches are responsible for the behavior of their team members while they are attending a championship.

HOST INSTITUTION

1. Upon request by the Conference staff, submit tentative budget to Associate Commissioner for Sport Administration & Championships or the Conference staff liaison three months prior to the championship for all costs which will be incurred by the host institution for the conduct of the championship (i.e., staffing, printing of tickets, promotional materials, etc.).

2. Work with the Associate Commissioner for Sport Administration & Championships, or the Conference staff liaison, to ensure all facilities and appropriate equipment are prepared for the event.

3. Hire all personnel necessary for the conduct of the championship.

4. Have the Sports Information Director work with the Conference communications staff in coordinating publicity and the reporting of results during/after the event.

5. Work with the on site Conference staff to ensure that the championship is conducted appropriately.

6. Submit financial report and comments regarding the championship (i.e., problems, suggestions) to Associate Commissioner for Sport Administration & Championships, or Conference staff liaison within one month after the event.

HOST SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR

1. Advance Publicity: Include championship dates prominently in weekly releases to keep media informed as championship approaches. The Conference staff is responsible for a pre-championship press release. Host SID also may produce a special release. Include dates, times, bracket information if applicable, admission/ticket information, etc.

2. Press Conference: If media interest warrants, the host SID may arrange for a pre-championship press conference at the site, with approval from the Conference staff.

3. Credentials: Credentials are printed and coordinated by the Conference staff. Media may request credentials directly through the Conference staff or participating SIDs may submit a list of their media covering the championship.

4. Telephone: Host SID should have a press row phone at the event and make this number available to other SIDs and media, if necessary.

5. Photography: The Conference staff will use its official photographer to attend the championship banquet, or social event, and championship competition. Expenses for championship event photography - for film, processing, on-site work and prints - are budgeted by the Conference. The Conference staff will also offer participating schools the opportunity to purchase photographs from the photographer.

6. Work Area Press Box: Regardless of whether the championship is on campus, there should be a work area accessible to SIDs and media. Area should have telephone lines, electrical power, internet access, table/chairs, etc. Due to media demand, extra phone lines may need to be installed in the media workroom at Conference expense and with Conference staff approval. Make arrangements to have copying equipment, FAX machines, etc., at the championship site. Press box should be equipped to handle live broadcasts. Only credentialed media and staff will be allowed in the press box.

7. Interview Area: Depending upon media attendance, it may be necessary to have a post-game interview area separate from the media/SID work area. Host SID and staff are responsible for coordinating interviews upon request.

8. Results: Host SID should work with the Conference staff to arrange the distribution of results to proper media outlets at the conclusion of competition each day of the championship. Results are available on the Conference's internet site (www.theamerican.org) at the completion of each day of the event.

9. Staffing: The Conference will be responsible for payment of additional staff members when necessary, but the host institution may be required to help locate and coordinate additional staff.

HOST CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGER DUTIES

The host championship manager works with the American administrator(s) relative to remaining within budgetary guidelines, making on-site arrangements for conduct of the championship, and determining facility and hotel accommodations.

The host championship manager is also responsible for directing the Conference staff regarding the awarding of the stipend among personnel at the host institution. Stipends are not issued until the host championship manager has completed all follow-up duties as determined by the Conference staff (i.e., financial report, final results, etc.).

CHAMPIONSHIPS

Each institution must travel with a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) when traveling with six (6) or more student-athletes to every Championship in all sports other than men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s rowing.

1. An information packet must be compiled by the host institution for each Championship and e-mailed to the visiting athletic training staffs a minimum of two weeks prior to the event.

Packet should include the following information:

a. Host athletic trainer’s office and cell numbers b. Primary physicians on call with office and cell numbers c. Other specialty physicians phone numbers d. Area rescue service/hospitalization/emergency room treatment with maps e. List of supplies and equipment that will be made available. Therapy equipment will be available to team athletic trainers ONLY. Teams that travel with less than 6 will be treated by the host ATC if presented with a written therapy prescription from that institutions athletic trainer. f. Access to host facilities/athletic training room with maps (training room hours should accommodate pre and post contest) g. Available transportation by host school for non-rescue situations h. Copy of reporting form for injuries. The host school should utilize its standard reporting form. i. At all championships, the host ATC must be in possession of an AED.

2. A reporting form must be utilized by the host institution for all treatments/injuries. One copy must be kept on file at the host school and a copy should be sent back with the visiting athletic trainer, coach, or administrator.

3. The NCAA blood rule will be followed for all championships. See the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook for exact verbiage.

4. Specific medical coverage requirements for each championship will be as listed below. Expenses incurred for complying with the following medical coverages are the responsibility of the Conference and should be included in the host school’s settlement report.

CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT POLICY to be updated by Mid- September

The members and administration of the American Athletic Conference recognize that concussions are serious injuries that require a comprehensive medical approach for diagnosis, treatment, and return to academic and athletic activities. The following policy’s primary principles are to approach each concussion individually, as every case is different, and to have a solid foundation/plan for recovery and stepwise progression for return. Each American Athletic Conference institution shall follow the guidelines in the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook. Each institution shall have a concussion management plan in place for all sports and an updated plan shall be filed annually with the Conference office by no later than August 1. At minimum, the institution’s concussion management plan must include:

1. The medical staff has the unchallengeable authority to remove a student-athlete from and to return the student-athlete to activities/return to learn. No coach may serve as the primary supervisor for any medical provider, or have hiring, retention or dismissal authority over that provider.

2. The concussion management plan should specifically outline the roles of the athletics healthcare staff (e.g., physician, athletic trainer, physical therapist) and the specific protocol for evaluation and management of concussions.

3. If a student-athlete exhibits signs/symptoms of a concussion, that student-athlete will be immediately removed from play and evaluated by the medical staff.

4. If the student-athlete is diagnosed with a concussion by a certified medical professional, that student- athlete will not be allowed to return to play that day. Monitoring will begin and the concussion management plan for that institution will be adhered to.

5. The full process from initial evaluation to return to activities (including academic and any CARA) must be documented in the student-athlete’s medical record.

6. Baseline testing for all student-athletes will be performed at each institution as part of the initial pre- participation medical exam. The types of baseline testing will be at the discretion of the institution.

These policies and guidelines will be revisited annually by each institution.

CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT POLICY (continued)

Communication  Each institution must submit annually to the Conference office, by no later than August 1, all Emergency Action Plans (EAP) for each campus competition facility. This information will be available on the Conference website under the Members Only section.

Communication in the sport of Football

a. Each institution will have in place a specific sideline communication plan between the ATC, MD and EMT when an injury occurs (e.g., radio, hand signals). The types of communication will be on file at the Conference office and must be submitted annually by no later than August 1.

b. Each institution’s medical staffs will meet pre-game at approximately 30-60 minutes before kickoff during pre-game warm ups. This meeting will include at minimum: location of EMS/Ambulance, availability of X-ray/Flouroscan, and communication between sidelines (e.g., medical liaisons, radios). EMTs are required to have an in-person meeting with each team’s medical staff prior to the game.

Return to Activities 1. Return to learn and return to activity will be determined by the institution’s medical staff.

2. Activities include any countable athletically related activities (CARA). Return to learn includes any academic-related activities (e.g., classroom, tutoring, study hall).

3. Academic staff will be notified and involved in the management of the student-athlete’s return to the classroom as well as all other academic activities.

4. Management of non-sport related concussions (i.e. automobile accidents, etc.) will be treated the same as sport-related concussions with the same return guidelines.

Education 1. Each institution will develop and determine the mechanism for providing annual concussion education to coaches, support staff and student-athletes. In addition, prior to the beginning of each academic year, the institution shall provide concussion education and shall review the concussion protocol with the medical staff (e.g., physicians, athletic trainers and other health care providers, as appropriate). Each such individual shall sign a form acknowledging that he/she received the annual concussion education.

2. Student-athletes also shall sign a form acknowledging that they have a responsibility to provide truthful information and to report promptly their injuries and illnesses to the medical staff. Coaches shall sign a form acknowledging that they have a responsibility to provide truthful information and to report promptly any student-athlete injury or illness to the medical staff.

3. American coaches will work to modify appropriately athletes’ techniques and encourage safe play to help prevent injuries.

Education in the Sport of Football

a. Football game officials will receive annual concussion education from the Conference Office staff as part of their annual certification.

b. There will be conference-wide education on safe tackling in conjunction with a partnership with USA Football and the Heads-up tackling program. The conference shall highlight and explain its initiatives to promote concussion education with respect to parents, its initiatives to promote safe tackling techniques with respect to youth coaches, and its promotion of the values of youth football.

Year-Round Football Practice Guidelines 1. Adopt the 2014 “NCAA inter-association consensus practice guidelines” purpose and background statements.

2. Definition of “full contact live practice”: Any practice that involves live tackling or live scrimmage where players are generally taken to the ground. Live contact does not include: (1) “thud” sessions, or (2) drills that involve “wrapping up;” in these scenarios players are not taken to the ground and contact is not aggressive in nature. Full contact live practices are to be conducted in a manner consistent with existing football playing rules that prohibit targeting to the head or neck area with the helmet, forearm, elbow, or shoulder, or the initiation of contact with the helmet.

3. Preseason practice guidelines

On those days in which institutions schedule a two-a-day practice, “full contact live practices” are only allowed in one practice. A maximum of four (4) live contact practices may occur in a given preseason week, and a maximum of 12 total may occur in preseason. Only three (3) practices (scrimmages) will allow for live contact in greater than 50 percent of the affected practice schedule.

4. In season practice guidelines

“In season” is defined as the period from six (6) days prior to the first regular-season game to the final regular-season game or conference championship game (for participating institutions). There may be no more than two (2) “full contact live practices” per week.

5. Post-Season Practice (Bowl Practice) guidelines:

Only four (4) “full contact live practices” are allowed during post-season practice and they may not occur on consecutive days. Of the four (4) permissible “full contact live practices,” not more than 50% of the allotted practice time of each such practice shall be designated to “full contact.”

6. Spring practice guidelines Of the 15 allowable practice sessions that may occur during the spring practice season, eight (8) such practice sessions may involve “full contact live practice”; three (3) of these eight (8) live contact practices may include greater than 50 percent live contact (scrimmages). Full contact live practices are limited to two (2) in a given week and may not occur on consecutive days.
