AVINASH REDDY AND SHRI MAGUNTA SREENIVASULU REDDY TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 20.11.2019 REGARDING NEW RAILWAY LINES (a) to (d): Yes, Sir. Surveys for new railway lines is a continuous and ongoing process of Indian Railways and are done based on demands raised by State Governments, Central Ministries, Members of Parliament, other public representatives and Railways’ own operational requirements. Based on survey reports, projects are taken up on the basis of remunerativeness, last mile connectivity, missing links and alternate routes, augmentation of congested/saturated lines, socio-economic considerations, ongoing projects, overall availability of funds and competing demands. Since Railway projects generally spread over more than one State, new railway lines are neither surveyed nor sanctioned State-wise. Surveys for 4 New Lines falling fully/partly in the State of Andhra Pradesh have been sanctioned during the last three years i.e. 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20. Surveys for 8 New Lines falling fully/partly in the State of Andhra Pradesh have been completed during the last three years i.e. 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20. JAYA RAO OF THE INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE DIRECTOR OF CENSUS OPERATIONS ANDHRA PRADESH PUBLISHED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF ANDHRA PRADESH .1986 SRI KRISHNADEVARA YA UNIVERSITY, ANANTAPUR The motif given on the cover page is the Library Building representing Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur. Land of Diamonds and Great Empires, Rayalaseema, heir to a very rich and varied cultural heritage, now proudly advances to a new milestone in her progress when the new University was inaugurated on the 22nd November, 1981. True to the legacy of the golden era, the new University is named after SRI KRISHNADEVARAYA, the greatest of the Vijayanagara Rulers. The formation of Sri Krishnadevaraya University fulfils the long cherished dreams and aspirations of the students, academicians, educationists and the general public of the region. The new University originated through the establishment of a Post-Graduate Centre at Anantapur which was commissioned in 1968 with the Departments of Telugu, English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics with a strength of 60 students and 26 faculty members. It took its umbrage in the local Government Arts Col/ege, Anantapur as an affiliate to the Sri Venkateswara University. In 1971, the Post-Graduate Centle moved into its own campus at a distance of 11 Kilometers from Anantapur City on the Madras Highway in an area of 243 hectares. The campus then had just two blocks, housing Physical Sciences and Humanities with a few quarters for the staff and a hostel for the boys.

PROFILE OF ANANTAPUR DISTRICT The effective functioning of any institution largely depends on the socio-economic environment in which it is functioning. It is especially true in case of institutions which are functioning for the development of rural areas. Hence, an attempt is made here to present a socio economic profile of Anantapur district, which happens to be one of the areas of operation of DRDA under study. Profile of Anantapur District Anantapur offers some vivid glimpses of the pre-historic past. It is generally held that the place got its name from 'Anantasagaram', a big tank, which means ‘Endless Ocean’. The villages of Anantasagaram and Bukkarayasamudram were constructed by Chilkkavodeya, the Minister of Bukka-I, a Vijayanagar ruler. Some authorities assert that Anantasagaram was named after Bukka's queen, while some contend that it must have been known after Anantarasa Chikkavodeya himself, as Bukka had no queen by that name. Anantapur is familiarly known as ‘Hande Anantapuram’. 'Hande' means chief of the Vijayanagar period. Anantapur and a few other places were gifted by the Vijayanagar rulers to Hanumappa Naidu of the Hande family. The place subsequently came under the Qutub Shahis, Mughals, and the Nawabs of Kadapa, although the Hande chiefs continued to rule as their subordinates. It was occupied by the Palegar of Bellary during the time of Ramappa but was eventually won back by 136 his son, Siddappa. Morari Rao Ghorpade attacked Anantapur in 1757. Though the army resisted for some time, Siddappa ultimately bought off the enemy for Rs.50, 000. Anantapur then came into the possession of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan.

CHAPTER-I ' HISTOBICAL BACKGROUND OF THE REGION A, TOPOGRAPHICAL ANTECEDENTS LepakshI is a moderate village (Lat.13® ^8* N, Long# 7 7 ^ 3 6 ' E)** situated at about 15 l*i. east of Hindupur (Fig, I) on'fthe Kodikpnda-Anantapur road in Hindupur taluq of Anantapur D istric t, Andhra Pradesh, The place is very much known for its monumental temple architecture of Vijayanagara period. Especially the extensive mural paintings executed on the temple ceilings are world famous for th e ir special style and theme, B, THE SIGNIFICANCE OF,THE NAME In the epigraphical records available on the temple walls, the place is variously spelt as Lepaksha^, Lepikshl^ and Lepakshipura!^’ Even in the inscriptions of Achyutaraya's period (1529-^2) available at Tirumala-Tirupati, the place is also referred as Lepakshi, a village in Roda Nadu sub division of Penugonda-rajya. It seems that the place was an insignificant one before the constriiction of the magnificent temple and came into prominence during Achyuta raya' s reign (1529-^2 A.D.) especially due to the munificent activities of Virupanna, a royal officer in the personal staff of Achyutaraya^ who hailed from Lepakshi, The li t e r a l meaning of the word is (Lepa + Akshi — Lepakshi) an embalmed eye or a painted eye. How the village derived its name is difficult to explain. However, some scholars trie d to co-relate the l i te r a l meaning of the word with the painted eyes of the figures drawn in the mural paintings. But the epigraphical evidences show that the place was already known by this name much earlier to the construction of the temple, because the father of Virupanna was called as LepakshI Lakkusetti in the epigraphs.

This is the most valuable district level publication brought out by the Census Organisation on behalf of each State Govt./ Uni~n Territory a~ministratio~. It Intc: al'ia. Provides data/information on some of the basIc demographiC and socia-economic characteristics and on the availability of certain important civic amenities/facilities in each village and town of the respective districts. This publication has thus proved to' be of immense utility to the planners., administrators, academicians and researchers. The scope of the DCH was initially confined to certain important census tables on population, economic and socio-cultural aspects as also the Primary Census Abstract (PCA) of each village and town (ward wise) of the district. The DCHs published after the 1961 Census contained a descriptive account of the district, administrative statistics, census tables and Village' and Town Directories including PCA. After the 1971 Census, two parts of the District Census Handbooks (Part-A comprising Village and Town Directories and Part-B comprising, Village and Town PCA) were released in all the States and Union Territories. The thnd Part (C) of the District Census Handbooks comprising administrative statistics and district census tables, which was also to be brought out, could not be published in many States/UTs due to considerable delay in compilation of relevant material.

Sodalite-cancrinite-fluorite syenite from the granitic terrain of Podili, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh M. S. MURTY Abstract The present paper reports the occurrence of sodalite-cancrinite-fiuorite syenite from Podili. This felspathoidal syenite is inferred to be formed by the crystallisation of alk~line felsic magma, derived by the partial melting of deep-crustal rocks, enriched in volatiles. Introduction The occurrence of syenites and especially felspathoidal syenites is extremely rare in granitic terrains. The present paper reports the occurrence of sodalite-cancrinite fluorite syenite from the grey granites of Podili (15°38' 15"N-79°36'45"E), Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh. The three Taluks - Kanigiri, Podili and Darsi in Prakasam District have attained some notoriety on account of the prevalence of an endemic disease called fluorosis caused by excess of fluorine in waters of the area. The ultimate source of fluorine is the fluorite found in the grey granites. Although several schistose rocks, grey granites, gabbros, pink granites and dolerites are present, none except the grey granite contains fluorite. The grey granite hosts the sodalite-cancrinite-fluorite syenite reported here. Petrography The syenite within the grey granite of the low-lying lands near Podili occurs in two patches, 100 metres apart, each measuring two metres by one metre.
