It was created in 1920 by Professor Titu Vasiliu (1885–1961). The purpose of our paper is to present the most important landmarks of this Society and to put into evidence its place in the Romanian series of morpho-clinical societies. Documentary Material: The activity reports of “Anatomical Meeting” from Cluj, summaries published in “Medical Cluj” journal referring to the presentations and discussions of the cases, which were held at different meetings of this Society. The activity of the “Anatomical Meeting” from Cluj increased, in a significantly and consistently way, the level of morphological and clinical training of physicians from Cluj. There are mentioned some of the most important presentations and the personalities which had special contributions in the evolution of this Society. Conclusions: The “Anatomical Meeting” was a scientific forum that propagated morpho-clinical concept in Romanian medicine, initially in Cluj, and then on a national level. It contributed to the collaboration between pathologists, clinicians and laboratory physicians from Cluj and favored scientific emulation between them. It also was a tribune from which were discussed a few new medical achievements. -

ZVI GITELMAN Reconstructing Jewish Communities and Jewish Identities in Post- Communist East Central Europe The communist era left the Jews of East Central Europe with a varied legacy, but what they have had in common since 1990 is the ability to choose whether and how to identify as Jews and to reconstruct public Jewish life. They do not do so in isolation, but are influenced both by the societies and states in which they live and by world Jewry and Israel. Ultimately, the choices are theirs, but they are shaped by these external actors. The major issues to be resolved are the nature of Jewish identity and its meaning; how to relate to the post- communist states, their neighbors, world Jewry and the State of Israel; how to deal with the communist past and those who shaped public Jewish life in that period; the restitution of public and private Jewish properties; and the seemingly perennial issue of anti-Semitism. In the course of half a century (1939–1989) the great majority of Jews in East Central Europe were murdered, and the majority of those who survived were deprived of their Judaism and Jewishness. Unlike the Nazis, the communists did not try to destroy Jews, but their policies of official atheism and forced acculturation seriously eroded Judaism and Jewish identity, though the latter was kept alive in most East Central European societies by social and governmental anti-Semitism. Unlike the Soviet state, communist states in Eastern Europe did not identify Jews officially as such on their internal passports, but they kept records which allowed them to identify Jews. -

Art Exhibitions Between 1920S and 1930S, Reflected in the Avant- Garde Magazine UNU
Învăţământ, Cercetare, Creaţie Vol. 7 No. 1 - 2021 171 Art Exhibitions between 1920s and 1930s, Reflected in the Avant- garde Magazine UNU Cristina GELAN1 Abstract: In the first decades of the twentieth century, when the trend of emancipation of Romanian culture - literature, but also art, under the influence of traditionalist direction and synchronization with European ideas became increasingly evident, the avant-garde movement proposed a series of aesthetic programs, aiming to impose a new vision, both in literature and in art. In this sense, the magazines founded during this period had a major role, even if many of them appeared for relatively short periods of time. Among them, there is the magazine UNU, a publication that appeared in Dorohoi, between April and December 1928, and later, between January 1929 and December 1932, in Bucharest. The magazine had declared itself surrealist and promoted the experiences of avant-garde events. Key-words: Romanian art; avant-garde; new art; UNU; surrealism 1.
