One of the opening performers, Joe Nichols, points out that he is just as excited as the students. "It will be an energetic night no matter what, I love that. I think that there is a youthful energy in a college atmosphere that can't be duplicated in your average arena or amphitheater," Nichols said. Nichols got his start from watching his dad perform at an early age and knew he was meant to be a performer. "He played music from as far back as I can remember and I kind of fell in love with it back then, watching him play and sing and watching people react to the way he played and sang. It kind of felt like something I was born to do," Nichols said. He first got his start in 1999 after signing a record deal with Warner Brothers, but quickly parted ways in 2000. "It's kind of come together several times. I moved to Nashville in '97 and I got my first record deal in '99 which ended with a parting of ways with Warner Brothers in 2000. I got my deal with Universal South in 2001 and it was a match straight from heaven in the beginning. That's where everything kind of started for me," Nichols said. HELLO AND WELCOME! Atlanta Track Club welcomes you to Atlanta’s Marathon Weekend! This year’s special edition of this 16-year tradition of a marathon, half marathon, 5K and kids’ races takes place at Atlanta Motor Speedway. From start to finish, it has been planned as a way to safely keep Atlanta moving during the ongoing impacts of COVID-19. And to those who are participating via the Virtual Publix Atlanta Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K and Kids Marathon, while we can’t see you in person this year, we most definitely feel your presence here in Running City USA. COVID has taken so much away from all of us. But beneath the carnage of this unforgiving virus, the occasional bright side shines through, and the forced creative thinking and planning of Atlanta Track Club’s Events Team is one of those positives. A wicked cool setting for Atlanta’s Marathon Weekend and the addition of the Virtual Publix Atlanta Marathon are two results of this creative effort by the Club’s staff. Atlanta Motor Speedway may not fit as many fans as Bristol or as well known as Daytona or Talladega, but its scale is eye-opening and awe inspiring. As COVID is slowly being reined in, Atlanta Motor Speedway’s size is exactly what the doctor ordered for this year’s socially distanced, race-by-appointment marathon experience. See you at the start line as you start your engines and circle the oval at your respective max speeds. Rich Kenah Atlanta Track Club Executive Director SOCIAL SHARE YOUR STORY WITH #ATLMarathon Help us share the Atlanta Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K events with the world! Use the hashtag #ATLMarathon on all of your race-related photos and posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

  • November 2018 - Susan Jones
November 2018 - Susan Jones Congratulations to our November Volunteer of the Month, Susan Jones. Susan has been volunteering with Atlanta Track Club for over twenty years. She currently is the Pace Team Co-Coordinator for the Invesco QQQ Thanksgiving Half Marathon and Publix Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathons. She recommends that new volunteers embrace the camaraderie of runners, staff and fellow volunteers. Do you remember your first time volunteering with Atlanta Track Club? I think my first time volunteering was with a program called Women on the Move in the 1990s with Atlanta Track Club staffer Janet Monk was in charge of it. I was a volunteer training leader helping women prepare for races. What is your favorite Atlanta Track Club event? Why? My favorite event is the Women's In-Training program and the Atlanta Women's 5K. It's a celebration of friends and it's social yet competitive with teams. I also love the Invesco QQQ Thanksgiving Half Marathon. My first full was the Thanksgiving Atlanta Marathon when I turned 40, 24 years ago. What is one of your best memories from volunteering at any race? At each race, my best memories are seeing the fun everyone is having and cheering the runners to the finish and seeing their excitement of completing the race. This is especially meaningful to me from working with In-Training and the Pace Team. What is your favorite thing about volunteering with Atlanta Track Club? What brings you back? I absolutely love the staff and support they give the volunteers. Plus I love running; the social part of it and the friends that I have made through Atlanta Track Club.

LEGACY Newsletter of the Peachtree City Running Club September/October 2014 Inside: President’s Letter: Needed Time Off By Kim Ruple Member Profile: What do you mean take a rest from running? Dreaded words for most runners. Wini Stephens 3 Hopefully this letter will find you when you need it – we all go through tough periods – Upcoming Events 6 together we make it through! Member Profile: Some of you may know I had to take a break from running in spring of this year. I’d Steve Greene 8 been suffering from heel pain off and on for over a year, but consistently since the previous October after pacing the Atlanta Marathon. I was stubborn and refused to Plantar Fasciitis: cancel any of my winter races thinking that stepping back and doing minimalist miles Your “Arch” Enemy 11 augmented by elliptical and biking would allow my injury to heel. I blocked out the 1000 Mile Club cautions of my husband, my massage therapist, my sister who is a certified personal Update 15 trainer and EXTREMELY prepared to give me good advice, and the little voice in my head. Finally I decided to take a break – for two months, YIKES! Club Meeting Minutes 18 So what do you do when your prime stress reliever, physical and social activity is off Senses 19 limits (and you’ve signed up for a marathon six weeks after your self-imposed sabbatical)? Thanks to my son and his soon to be wife I was able to take on the P90X program. I changed my routine to 30 minutes of spin and a daily P90X workout (definitely good stuff).
