Joe Baldarotta was named the men’s ice hockey head coach at SUNY Cortland in June 2007 after coaching for 16 years at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point.

During Baldarotta’s tenure at Cortland, the Red Dragons featured their first-ever four-time All-SUNY- AC selection and have had two players move into the top 15 in career scoring.

As the team’s head coach for four seasons, Baldarotta com- piled a 62-22-1 record and won the 1983 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Champion- ship, earning Wisconsin State High School Coach of the Year honors.

At Cortland, athletics are viewed as having an important role in the educational mission of the College. During the fall, winter and spring seasons, Cortland participates in 25 intercollegiate sports — 14 women’s and 11 men’s — in an attempt to provide a broad program which meets the needs, interests and abilities of its students.

The Cortland athletic program placed 10th nationally out of approximately 440 colleges and universities in the 2011-12 all-sport Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Division III standings. Cortland is the only New York school and one of only five nationwide to finish in the top 20 each of the last 17 years. Since 1989, the Red Dragons have captured 15 NCAA Division III team titles.
