When LPA Private Charters & is providing service they will leave from Casco Bay Lines in Group Tours Portland and from their facility on Peaks Island. The following trips will be operated by LPA: Lobster Bakes Thursday, May 31st - 4:30 and 5:35 PM Sailing Schedule Monday, June 4th - 9:15, 10:15 and 11:15 AM Tuesday, June 5th - 10:15 AM, 11:15 AM and 12:15 PM Passenger Fares Wednesday, June 6th - 10:15 AM, 11:15 AM and 12:15 PM Thursday, June 7th - 11:15 AM and 12:15 PM Passenger service will continue to run as scheduled.   • Principal Fortifications of the United States (1870–1875)
    Principal Fortifications of the United States (1870–1875) uring the late 18th century and through much of the 19th century, army forts were constructed throughout the United States to defend the growing nation from a variety of threats, both perceived and real. Seventeen of these sites are depicted in a collection painted especially for Dthe U.S. Capitol by Seth Eastman. Born in 1808 in Brunswick, Maine, Eastman found expression for his artistic skills in a military career. After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where offi­ cers-in-training were taught basic drawing and drafting techniques, Eastman was posted to forts in Wisconsin and Minnesota before returning to West Point as assistant teacher of drawing. Eastman also established himself as an accomplished landscape painter, and between 1836 and 1840, 17 of his oils were exhibited at the National Academy of Design in New York City. His election as an honorary member of the academy in 1838 further enhanced his status as an artist. Transferred to posts in Florida, Minnesota, and Texas in the 1840s, Eastman became interested in the Native Americans of these regions and made numerous sketches of the people and their customs. This experience prepared him for his next five years in Washington, D.C., where he was assigned to the commissioner of Indian Affairs and illus­ trated Henry Rowe Schoolcraft’s important six-volume Historical and Statistical Information Respecting the History, Condition, and Prospects of the Indian Tribes of the United States. During this time Eastman also assisted Captain Montgomery C. Meigs, superintendent of the Capitol Brevet Brigadier General Seth Eastman.

    Maine Guide Training 2021 History of Maine Guides ● First hired guides in Maine were Abenaki people who led European explorers, military officials, traders, priests and lumbermen. ● Guiding industry emerged in late 1900s as people in more urban and industrialized regions sought wilderness for recreation ● Cornelia “Fly Rod” Crosby was first guide licensed in 1897; 1700 others were licensed that year. Maine’s Legal Definition of “Guide” Any person who receives any form of remuneration for his services in accompanying or assisting any person in the fields, forests or on the waters or ice within the jurisdiction of the State while hunting, fishing, trapping, boating, snowmobiling or camping at a primitive camping area. Sea Kayaking Guide Specialization Guides can lead paddlesports trips on the State's territorial seas and tributaries of the State up to the head of tide and out to the three mile limit. We covered the stage with clam shells! That was also the show when Lou Levy played Jigger and had to smoke. But Lou didn’t smoke and neither did I. The cigarettes I got for him had cork tips; one night he put the wrong end in his mouth and couldn’t light it!” Lora is no longer physically active with Lyric but still contributes her help and support as the person who sends out the get well and sympathy cards to members.

Size: 6.5 linear ft. + 1 oversized folder Administrative Note: The Casco Bay Island Development Association (CBIDA) was originally organized on Peaks Island in 1959 as the Island Development Association for purposes including island beautification and development, social welfare, education, and collective representation of island interests, among others. The organization soon expanded to include representatives from all of the Casco Bay islands including Peaks Island, Long Island, Cliff Island, Chebeague Island, Cushing Island, Great Diamond Island and Little Diamond Island, and was renamed accordingly. Early efforts included island clean ups, prioritization of island issues, promotion of island development, and improvement of ferry piers and service. Shortly thereafter, the CBIDA floated a bond issue in support of the purchase of former government land on Peaks Island from Peter Cioffi. Over time, that project led to the development of the Back Shore and infrastructure improvements on Peaks Island, as well as set asides for public land there. Other notable projects include leading the effort to create the Casco Bay Island Transit District to ensure more efficient and reliable ferry service; influencing the development of island zoning standards adopted by the City of Portland; achieving limits to the development of Diamond Cove at the former Fort McKinley; participation in various coalitions to preserve the Portland working waterfront and water quality in Casco Bay; regular publication of Casco Bay newsletter and boating brochure.
