Hidrónimos para el Diccionario geográfico de la provincia de Granma Aguacate, (embalse) Hid. Vertiente sur. Se localiza en la vertiente norte de la Sierra Maestra a 2.0 km. al NE del caserío de Sevilla Arriba, en los 19º59'04" de lat. N y los 77º24'53" de long. O, mun. de Pilón, GR. Área del NAN: 0.78 km². Volumen: 0.355 MMm³. Almacena las aguas del río Macaca. Altura del dique 18.0 m. Cota del fondo 57.5 m. El dique está construido sobre la formación geológica Manzanillo. Sus aguas son utilizadas para el riego de áreas de viandas y hortalizas. Su construcción terminó en el año 1987 y su puesta en explotación en ese mismo año. Aguacate, El. (arroyo) Hid. Vertiente sur. Nace en la vertiente N de la Sierra Maestra, en las 20º10'19" de lat. N 76º36'18"de long. O, a una altitud de 510 m. Desemboca a 1.5 km al norte de la comunidad de Macanacú, en el río Macanacú, en los 20°12'51" de lat. N76°37'34" de long. O, mun. de Guisa, GR. Largo: 6.1 km: Área de la cuenca 9.2 km2. Corre en dirección SNO sobre las formaciones geológicas Cobre y Caney. Caudal medio anual 0.005 m³/s, No posee afluentes. Cauce poco sinuoso en toda su longitud, siendo más notable en la parte inferior de la cuenca. Márgenes con pendiente fuerte en la parte superior de la cuenca, suavizándose a medidas que se aproxima a la desembocadura. Sus aguas son utilizadas para el abasto de las poblaciones cercanas a él. -

Natural Geographic Distribution The Florida Thatch Palm, Thrinax radiata, is indigenous to the extreme southern mainland coast of Florida, the Florida Keys, Bahamas, western Cuba, The Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Nicaragua, and the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and Belize. In na- ture, this palm almost always grows within the range of salt-laden winds near coastal areas. It grows naturally in sandy or calcareous soils. -

Photo Credit: Action Sports/Shutterstock The Trump administrations decision to ban commercial flights from the U.S. to Cub an destinations other than Havana could cause complications for tour operators. However, where needed, operators will have the option to use charter flights as an alternative. The latest restrictions, which take effect during the second week of December, will put an end to daily American Airlines flights from Miami to the Cuban cities of Camaguey, Hoguin, Santa Clara, Santiago and Varadero. JetBlue will end flights from Fort Lauderdale to Camaguey, Holguin and Santa Clara. In a letter requesting the Department of Transportation to issue the new rules, secretary of state Mike Pompeo wrote that the purpose of restrictions is to strengthen the economic consequences of the Cuban governments "ongoing repression of the Cuban people and its support for Nicholas Maduro in Venezuela." The restrictions dont directly affect all Cuba tour operators. For example, Cuba Candela flies its clients in and out of Havana only, said CEO Chad Olin. But the new rules will force sister tour operators InsightCuba and Friendly Planet to make adjustments, said InsightCuba president Tom Popper. In the past few months, he explained, Friendly Planet’s "Captivating Cuba" tour and InsightCubas "Classic Cuba" tour began departing Cuba from the north central city of Santa Clara. Now those itineraries will go back to using departure flights from Havana. As a result, guests will leave Cienfuegos on the last day of the tour to head back to Havana for the return flight. -

Ground or air surveys or both were conducted at all identified potential areas and locations previously reported in the literature. We define the current distribution as 10 separate localities in six provinces and the estimated total number of cranes at 526 individuals for the country. Two populations reported in the literature were no longer present and two localities not previously reported were discovered. The actual number of cranes at two localities was not possible to evaluate due to their rarity. Only four areas (Isle of Youth, Matanzas, Ciego de Avila, and Sancti Spiritus) each support more than 70 cranes. -

A new cryptic frog, Eleutherodactylus beguei sp. nov., is described from the pine forests of La Munición, Yateras, Guantánamo Province, Cuba. It is sympatric with E. feichtin- geri, another recently described grass frog closely related to E. varleyi, but differs in morphol- ogy, vocalization and DNA sequences of the mitochondrial Cyt-b gene. One female of the new species was found vocalizing in response to a calling male, a behavior that is still poorly documented in anurans. Same male and female were found in axillary amplexus and sur- rounded by 9 eggs (3.5–3.7 mm in diameter) 5 hours after being isolated in a small container. INtrODUCtION After a recent review of the geographic variation of the Cuban Grass Frog Eleutherodactylus varleyi Dunn, Díaz et al. (2012) described E. feichtingeri, a cryptic species widely distributed in central and eastern Cuba. the two species differ primarily in tympanum size, supratympanic stripe pattern, and advertisement calls. Species recognition was also supported by genetic and cytogenetic data. One of the authors (SBH) conducted DNA sequence analyses that confirmed the existence of two species at La Munición, Humboldt National Park. -
