Quick Details for Spanish Culture and Language Trip to

1. Trip dates: June 19-July 2, 2013

2. We would like to travel with 12-15 current Form III-V students. We must have 10 students for this trip to run. Students need to be currently enrolled in Spanish 2 or higher to participate.

3. Pingry will partner with LITA (Language Immersion Trips Abroad) for this trip www.experiencelita.com.

4. The Pingry chaperones are Gerardo Vazquez and Margi Dillon.

5. Total Cost: $4,400. This includes all expected fees except for personal spending money.

6. Your completed application and $1,500 deposit are due to Ms. Boisvert, no later than Monday, December 3, 2012. Checks to be made out to The Pingry Corporation.

7. A copy of your valid (doesn’t expire until after December, 2013, and has at least 4 blank pages) passport photo page due to Ms. Boisvert no later than Friday, January 18, 2013.

8. Second payment of $1,500 due Friday, January 18, 2013

9. Last payment of $1,400 due Friday, February 8, 2013.

June 19: Depart Newark or JFK à or airport

June 20: Arrive in Madrid or Galicia. Transport to house in Galicia via chartered bus

June 20 – June 23: Galicia

• Lodging at Casa Lourán (casalouran.com) and Rodea da Casa (www.rodeodacasa.com) two beautiful rural houses, about 30 miles from the coast. The two houses are very close together. If the group is smaller, we will fit entirely at Casa Lourán. o Daily activities will likely include: § Day trips to Santiago de Compostela, Betanzos, and northern beach towns § Kayak trip in Fragas do Eume § Seaweed cooking demonstration and seaweed harvesting on northern coast § June 23 – June 30: Homestay in Medina de Rioseco (possible host community)

• Each student will be placed with their own family, matched by mutual interests and hobbies

o All students will have host siblings of the same approximate age. • We will do 2-3 day trips during the homestay. o Possible destinations include: § Segovia, , León § Small towns of historical interest § Cooking class at La Escuela Internacional de Cocina in Valladolid § A day with Paco Díez • Closing banquet with homestay families and friends

June 30 – July 2: Madrid

• Hotel TBD – Students will be placed in double or triple rooms. Chaperones will be in double occupancy rooms • Daily activities may include: § Visit to El Museo Prado or El Museo Reina Sofia § Visit to El Estadio Santiago Bernabeu § Visit to Parque Retiro, Puerta del , Plaza Mayor, El barrio Malasaña § Evening Flamenco show and dinner § Visit to El Palacio Real § Visit to El Rastro on Sunday morning, June 30

July 2: Depart Madrid à JFK or Newark
