Annual Report Fiscal Year 2018 Oct.1, 2017 – Sept. 30, 2018 Dear Friends, Life is a daily struggle for households uncertain how, when and where they will get their next meal. We recognize the numerous challenges these households encounter whether caring for children or grandchildren and getting them to school or daycare, figuring out transportation for the day, searching for or going to work and attending college. And, it doesn’t stop there… medical or other appointments to seek basic needs assistance, making trips to the supermarket and pharmacy… and, often, to the senior center, local food pantry or a meal site… for food! At The Food Bank, we are busy every day making sure we do everything in our power to provide healthy food to those who need food assistance. In this report, you will read about some of the different ways we provide sustenance to the most vulnerable in our communities — children, elders, people with disabilities, veterans and working families. We embrace many solutions from delivering food to elders and children, assisting households to apply for SNAP benefits, and educating people on how to prepare healthy meals on a budget. We also know we must continue to educate the public about hunger, advocate for effective public policy, forge innovative community partnerships and invest in the local farm economy. There are many solutions to prevent hunger in the short term and many more solutions to end hunger in the long term. Our daily impact on the lives of thousands of people across all four counties is possible because you invest in our mission. We collaborate with so many stakeholders from donors of food and funds, volunteers, our vast network of local feeding partners, municipal, state and federal public officials and dozens of other community partners so that households at risk of hunger not only survive, but also rekindle the hope to thrive. We are so grateful to you for your compassion and commitment to those who are less fortunate. Together, we can create a western Massachusetts where no one goes hungry and everyone has access to nutritious food.
