The three-year-old colt set a new track record for 1 1/8 miles at Parx Racing, stopping the clock in 1:34.47. The previous record was set by Selari Spirit in 1974. In addition, handle on the day obliterated the previous all-time record of $5,519,897 that was set just last year on Pennsylvania Derby Day, increasing by 88 percent to an astounding $10,396,671. A crowd of over 16,000 filtered into the grandstand throughout the day so that by the time the Derby horses began entering the walking ring, the rail was jammed with excited spectators. “That was just a powerful performance.
