É preciso esclarecer que este guia não pretende formar “especialista”, mesmo porque para tanto seriam necessários muitos anos de dedicação e aprendizado contínuo. Longe desse intuito, pretende- se apenas que este trabalho sirva para despertar o interesse quanto à conservação dos invertebrados de cavernas (meio hipógeo) e também daqueles que vivem no ambiente externo (meio epígeo). -
A New Species of Epigomphus from Mexico (Odonata : Gomphidae)
ENTOMOLOGISCHE BERICHTEN, DEEL 41, 1.IV.1981 61 A new species of Epigomphus from Mexico (Odonata : Gomphidae) by JEAN BELLE ABSTRACT. — Epigomphus paulsoni new species (tf holotype: Stream 27.2 mi N. of Ocozocoautla, Chiapas, Mexico) is described, and its affinities and variations are discussed. INTRODUCTION AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT During his field work in Mexico, Dr. Dennis R. Paulson (Seattle) collected five males of a form of Epigomphus which he determined as an undescribed one. Shortly after my description of Epigomphus clavatus from Guatemala (Belle, 1980), Dr. Paulson sent to me four of these males for studying and reporting, and for this privilege I herewith wish to thank him very much. The present species is associated with its discoverer. Epigomphus paulsoni spec. nov. (figures 1-12) Material. — Mexico: Veracruz, stream at Coyame (1300'), 1.VII.1965, 2 $ (paratypes), Dennis & Mary Lynn Paulson leg.; Chiapas, stream 27.2 mi N. of Ocozocoautla (2000'), 21.VII. 1965, 2 $ (holotype and paratype), Dennis R. Paulson leg. The holotype is deposited in the Florida State Collection of Arthropods, Gainesville, Florida. Two paratypes (one from Veracruz and one from Chiapas) are in the collection Paulson, Seattle, Washington; one paratype is in the author’s collection. Description. — Male (holotype). Total length 52 mm; abdomen 40 mm (including caudal appendages); hind wing 34 mm; costal edge of pterostigma in fore wing 3.8 mm. Pale colours greenish white, becoming brown-yellow on abdominal segments 3 to 7. Face blackish brown but labrum with a large, pale basal spot on either side, and facial lobes of postclypeus pale. Base of mandibles pale externally. -

All sites were characterized physiographically by application of environmental assessment protocol to Atlantic Forest streams and by some physical and chemical parameters. Of the 19 streams sampled, six were classified as reference, six streams as intermediate (moderate anthropic impact) and seven streams as poor (strong anthropic impact). In each site, a multi-habitat sampling was taken with a kick sampler net. -

The taxonomic knowledge of the larval stage of the family in Costa Rica is sum- marized as follows: The larval stage of the 59% ofthe species are undescribed.All the monospecific genera have their larvae described: Archaeogomphus furcatus (BELLE, 1992), Agriogomphus tumens (NOVELO, 1989), Desmogomphus paucinervis and Peri- gomphus pallidistylus (WESTFALL, 1989). Aphylla and Phyllocycla each have all but one of their larvae described. Of six for the four known and Progomphus species reported country, are certainly two are putative (BELLE, 1991). Of the Erpetogomphus species, those described here are the first ones to Costa Rica. The Epigomphus species described here are the first descriptions for Costa 144 A. -

INTRODUCTION According to FLINT et al. (1999) about 370 species of Hydropsychidae CURTIS, 1835 are known from the Neotropical Region. Only slightly more species were listed by MORSE (2012). The family is one of the most diverse in the neotropics, surpassed only by the Hydroptilidae STEPHENS, 1836. The Hydropsychidae are divided into the subfamilies Diplectroninae ULMER, 1951, Hydropsychinae CURTIS, 1834, Macronematinae ULMER, 1905 and Smicrideinae FLINT, 1974. The Arctopsychidae are considered a subfamily of Hydropsychidae by some authors (HOLZENTHAL et al. 2007, MORSE 2012), and regarded as a distinct family by others (e.g. SCHMID 1968). In the Neotropical Region, the Macronematinae and Smicrideinae comprise 90% of the known species diversity in the family. These two groups cover the study organisms of this work. Annls hist.-nat. -
A New Species of Epigomphus from Guatemala (Odonata: Gomphidae)
136 ENTOMOLOGISCHE BERICHTEN, DEEL 40, 1.IX. 1980 A new species of Epigomphus from Guatemala (Odonata: Gomphidae) by JEAN BELLE ABSTRACT. — Epigomphus clamtus new species (^holotype: Finca Sacté, Cobân, Guatemala) is described and illustrated, and its affinities are discussed. Epigomphus clamtus spec. nov. (figures 1-6). Material. — 1 <$ (holotype); collected on 25.VII. 1974 at Finca Sacté (Arroyo Cuxjâ), Cobân, Guatemala, by Dr. Böttger. It is preserved in the collection Jurzitza, Karlsruhe. Description. — Male (holotype; head broken off). Total length 55 mm; abdomen 43 mm; hind wing 37.5 mm; costal edge of pterostigma in fore wing 3.6 mm. Face predominantly dark brown but labrum with a nearly circular greyish green spot on either side and postclypeus with greyish green depressed areas but center of each depression yellow. Superior surface of frons largely greyish green, dark brown at base and in middle. Vertex and occiput dark brown, the latter with a large concavity at either side, its posterior edge round and scantily provided with brown hairs. Rear of head dark brown along superior border, paler below, having a greyish green spot followed by a greyish green band on temporae. Labium and adjacent mouth parts pale green with yellow posterior borders. Prothorax dark brown, the middle lobe with a green spot on either lateral side and a mid¬ dorsal green twin-spot. Pterothorax dark brown with green stripes, its colour design shaped as shown in accompanying diagram. Second pale antehumeral stripe immediately in front of humeral sutures complete. Femora dark brown, becoming black near knees. Tibiae, tarsi and claws black. -

Many nomenclatorial changes and synonymies have taken place since that list was published. This revised listing of the synonymic list (hereafter referred to as NWOL) includes additions and changes up through September 2018 and represents a complete listing for all described Odonata of North, Middle, and South America. Generic synonyms and nomina nuda are included when their identity is known (often through examination of labeled specimens). We do not recognize subgenera, but mention their names in the Comments section after the list. Species misidentifications are not included.
