Brief CV Dr Emmanouil Galanakis, MD PhD(Phil) Associate Professor; Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases, University of Crete Head; Paed Infectious Disease Unit, Heraklion University General Hospital Interfaculty Graduate Programme in Bioethics, University of Crete Phone +30 2810 392 012; fax +30 2810 392 827; [email protected] Emmanouil Galanakis graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Athens (1975-1981) and the School of Philosophy, University of Ioannina, Greece (1986-1991), and studied Theology at the University of Athens (1982-1986). He obtained a Doctoral Degree in Medicine (1993, Social Paediatrics) and in Philosophy (1996, Ethics). He has served as Fellow and Visiting Faculty in Hospitals and Universities in the UK (London, Newcastle upon Tyne and Oxford), the USA (Baltimore, MD and Seattle, WA), and in the European Centre for Disease Control (Stockholm). He has been a clinician in Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases since 1990, University Hospitals of Ioannina and of Heraklion, and Lecturer (1999), Assistant Professor (2000), and Associate Professor (2009) at the Faculties of Medicine, Universities of Ioannina and Crete. Currently he is caring for sick children at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete and teaching Paediatrics, and Infectious Diseases to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Crete. He is actively involved in medical research focusing on Infectious Diseases and Paediatrics and has relevant publications in major peer-reviewed international journals. He is currently a Board Member of the Hellenic and of the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases. In the field of Bioethics, his interests have focused on vaccination ethics and infectious diseases ethics, on the Greek attitudes towards medical futility and good death, and on end-of-life decisions in infancy. He is teaching Medical Ethics to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Crete, has lectured on ethical issues in European Programmes in Bioethics, Meetings and Organizations, and has authored relevant books and articles.
