HELMS ATHLETIC FOUNDATION SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PREP SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD RECORD This Record of outstanding performances by Southern California's Prep School Tract and Field athletes, for the 1942 Season, is the Sixth Annual Edition issued by Helms Athletic Foundation. Helms Athletic Foundation is sponsored by Paul H. Helms, of Los Angeles. One of the purposes of Helms Athletic Foundation is that of recording the achievements of Southern California's athletes and athletic teams, in all sports, and in all classifications. This Track and Field Record, and similar booklets on Athletic records and history, are prepared by Helms Athletic Foundation and are distributed to the Press, Radio, Schools, Athletic Officials and others, without cost. The facts and records listed herein have been gathered from sources which are believe to be correct. Information has been provided by Coaches of South- ern California Prey School Track and Field Teams, and has also been secured from Los Angeles daily newspapers — including the Examiner, Daily Hews, Times, Herald-Express and Hollywood Citizen-News, and from school newspapers. This Southern California Prep School Track and Field Record has been pre- pared under the supervision of W. R. Bill Schroeder, Managing Director of Helms Athletic Foundation. Garland Building Los Angeles, California LIKINS, SHIPKEY, THURMAN HONORED NAMES ADDED TO PAUL H HELMS TROPHY ROBERT LIKINS, Glendale Junior College Javelin Thrower, who established a new National Junior College record on May 9th, with a mark of 212 feet, 11 7/8 inches; JERRY SHIPKEY, Anaheim High School Shot Putter, who established a new Southern California High School Track and Field Meet record on May 16th, with a mark of 56 feet, 1 5/8 inches; and ROY THURMAN, Fremont ( Los Angeles ) High School Shot Patter, who equalled the National Interscholastio Shot Put record on May 22nd, with a put of 58 feet, 10 inches, have been chosen Southern California Prep School Truck and Field Athletes of the Year by Helms Athletic Foundation, The names ROBERT LIKINS, JERRY SHIPKEY and ROY THURMAN have there- fore been engraved upon the PAUL H. HELMS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PREP SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE YEAR TROPHY, which also carries the names of Southern California's foremost prep school athletes who have competed in Football, Baseball, Basketball and Track and Field for the past five years.
