A Werribee Tigers promotion West Wing This week I catch up with young Kangaroos player Tim McGenniss who has been playing at Werribee. SW: How is it going mate? TMc: We just had a hard training session but we have the weekend off which I am really looking forward to. SW: What are your plans? TMc: I will head home and see my mates and probably watch them play in local footy in the arvo and obviously head to the Kangas game against the Bulldogs then just relax and freshen up for next week. SW: Where is home? TMc: Beautiful bayside Frankston. SW: What club did you play for? TMc: Frankston YCW and they are a pretty handy club they have won the last three premierships and probably favorites to make it four this year. SW: What was your pathway to becoming a Kangaroo? TMc: I played local footy up until the last year of the under 18’s and I got picked for the in the TAC Cup and played a few games and lucky enough to get picked up in the rookie draft this year. SW: Who were some of the players you came through with? TMc: who is also at the Kangaroos, Lachy Whitfield, the number one pick, and Nathan Wright(St. Kilda). SW: Does it make it easier coming into AFL with someone you played with? TMc: It definitely helps; Taylor was already here so he showed little things to do. SW: A Little birdie told me you were a different body shape when you were 15? TMc: Yes I was probably 94 kilos and 177 centimeters tall and my nickname was “Plugger” because I played full forward. I started going to the gym and started running, ate healthy and got fit. It was definitely my diet. I probably ate three kilos of salami a week and lots of chips with gravy. SW: Any players that you are following as a role model type? TMc: On the track I always watch and Andrew Swallow because they are the ultimate professionals. SW: Drafted to North Melbourne but you are playing for Werribee How have you found that? TMc: At the start it was a bit awkward. After round one playing a game together all the boys get around you. It is pretty much like it is your footy club. Once you embrace it, it is good. I am enjoying my footy at Werribee. SW: What are your aims for this year? TMc: Personally I just want to play consistent footy, not be in one week out the other. Just want to keep getting my hands on the ball and playing my team role. Hopefully getting some wins on the board and hopefully play deep into the finals. SW: Thanks for your time.
