    July 15, 2014 Dear Board Member, We are pleased to provide the agenda and briefing materials for the July 31-August 2 meeting of the National Assessment Governing Board. The meeting will be held at the Fairfax at Embassy Row hotel, 2100 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, in Washington, DC. The Assessment Development Committee, the Assessment Literacy Work Group, and the Executive Committee will meet on Thursday, July 31. As always, all Board members are encouraged to attend the Executive Committee meeting, which begins at 4:30 p.m. On Friday, August 1 the Board agenda includes the customary morning updates. David has invited Michael Cohen, President of Achieve, to present his recommendations about the NAEP writing assessment during this time (http://www.achieve.org/files/June2014Perspective.pdf). The time for Committee meetings includes a joint session of the Committee on Standards, Design and Methodology (COSDAM) and the Reporting and Dissemination Committee (R&D). During the closed working lunch on Friday, the Board will receive an embargoed briefing on the forthcoming Black-White Achievement Gaps report, which focuses on school composition and student achievement. Following this briefing, representatives of the SBAC and PARCC assessment consortia will provide their annual update to the Board on the Common Core State Assessments. The final topic on Friday is the NAEP Schedule of Assessments, which the Board will consider for action in a closed session because the discussion will include information on the NAEP budget available to implement the schedule. After the Nominations Committee convenes at the usual time on Saturday, the full Board will meet in plenary session.
