They must have been watching a different game to me though because they claimed the Warriors did not win it, the Roosters lost it, even claiming you could argue their boys were robbed because Ryan Matterson was pinged for a knock on with only minutes to play, when he did not knock on. Crikey there was so much whinging it could have been us after pretty much any game, critiquing the ref. Fair enough, they certainly had their chances, like when halfback Jackson Hastings went inside for Issac Liu on the last tackle. Who knows what he was thinking? Or when centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall, who showed what a class player he is, broke from the kick off, got to the last defenders and threw the ball into touch. -

E 1,106,000 Australians 14+ support the Brisbane Broncos, almost three times as many as support the North Queensland Cowboys (389,000). But the Cowboys’ fan-base is much more gender neutral, with women making up 49% compared with just 40% of the Broncos’. In terms of club spirit, the teams are closely matched: slightly more Cowboys supporters attended a match (22% vs 19%), but Broncos fans are more likely to be a financial member of their club (5% vs 4%) or to play the sport themselves (4% vs 3%). The two sides share virtually the same proportions of fans that watch rugby matches on TV (80-81%) or bet on the sport this past year (3%). When deciding whose house to watch the game at, consider this: Cowboys supporters are more likely to have a swimming pool (21% vs 16%) but more Broncos fans have a barbecue (71% vs 66%). Broncos supporters are more likely to have been overseas in the past year (24% vs 21%), donate an average $40 more per year to charity, and spend $19 more going out during the week (although Cowboys supporters spend $8 more on at-home entertainment). From the original idea to final production takes about nine months, but this one took longer. I had been planning on writing my next book (not this one) and the concepts in this book kept pushing me back. I felt like I was in a boxing ring and every time I tried to write, it would come up with a left hook and smash me on the mat. It sounds harsh but it was like I couldn’t work on anything else until this piece of work was completed. After meeting with a series of mentors, including Matt Church, Dan Gregory and Kieran Flanagan, and grappling with it, I’m so pleased it is now finally in a format people can use! Lining up will be New Zealand Maori, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji NZ, Cook Islands and Auckland Niue, with all the teams being hosted by the New Zealand Maori Rugby League, in association with the Warriors. Warriors recruitment and development manager Tony Iro said the cup, and the club's other initiatives, give a valuable pathway. We all know the dominance of Pasifika players on the league front, with top players making their way into the NRL, and there is zero reason to believe that is going to be any different any time soon. “If young players are serious about their goals then they need to think about off-season training and the Pasi- fika Youth Cup provides a carrot for them to push hard during the preseason,” Iro said.
