JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY

Christ the King is a Charismatic personal of the of Lansing with a focus on helping our parishioners fall in love with Jesus, in the heart of His in the Power of the Holy Spirit. As a 'personal parish' of the Bishop, we do not have a territory that we are responsible for like most but instead are officially called to to Catholics who are seeking a deeper presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Our liturgies and overall ministry are oriented to encourage growth in the power of the Holy Spirit and the charismatic gifts that He wishes to provide. We’re a parish of intentional disciples, committed to the mission of the New Evangelization.

SUPERVISORY Shared supervision of the Music Director, direct supervision of the RESPONSIBILITY: volunteer youth ministry team.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

HOURS: Full-time. Some evenings and weekends are required.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership Development • Collaborate with the pastor in the recruitment, training, assignment, and evaluation of the high school youth ministry team and small group leaders. • Establish weekly communication with parents of high school students that will both keep them informed of high school youth ministry activities as well as provide assistance and support in parenting their teenagers. • Recruit, train and develop a team of high school students to assume leadership positions with the middle school ministry program (Fuel).

Program Development and Administration • Gather data to understand the interests, attitudes, beliefs, and formation gaps of the youth. • Assess data in light of the goals, components, and dimensions of youth ministry to foster lifelong, intentional discipleship of the teens in the heart of the Roman Catholic Church. • Direct of the high school students of the parish • Working with the pastor and the youth ministry team, develop programming that will lead high school students into a deeper relationship with Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit, in the heart of the Church, including but not limited to: o Weekly Life Nights (Sundays) o Weekly Charismatic prayer meetings (Tuesdays) o Two annual weekend retreats o Participation in Steubenville Youth Conferences o Service Projects o Coordination of the high school leadership development program, Fuel. • Plan events and activities specifically designed to recruit new students—both inside and outside the parish—into the program. • Develop annual budget and track program expenses against that budget. Maintain necessary records. • Determine effective means for promoting and publicizing programs and activities. • Provide opportunities for youth to hear and respond to the Gospel message to spread the good news. (Service opportunities, retreats, conferences, etc.) • Attend all parish staff meetings and submit required reports timely. • Effectively evaluate all aspects of parish ministry and set goals.

Foster Discipleship & Evangelization • With the help of the volunteer team, deliver the weekly program, routine small groups and the calendar of events. • Have an active presence in local schools and home school co-ops to evangelize, build relationships with teens, and encourage them in their faith. • Meet with parents regularly to help them deal with student issues and to train them on best practices for raising a high school student in the faith. • Serve as a mentor and resource to youth and the parish as needed • Develop and foster a culture among the teens that is focused on evangelization and discipleship.

Serve as a Liaison • Keep the parish community informed of the youth ministry programs. • Work closely with the Director of Religious Education to ensure that catechesis is consistent with the direction the whole parish is moving, to ensure continuity and a smooth transition between Confirmation (middle school) and high school, to assist in the RCIA program for teens, and to assist with other periodic needs for the religious education program. • Advise, communicate, coordinate, and cooperate with other parish and diocesan organizations. • Stay informed of developments directed toward improving youth ministry through attendance at diocesan, regional, and national conferences; regular reading and updating through current periodicals and websites; and membership in youth ministry associations. • Develop a network for reaching out to youth, particularly those who may not have a strong faith.

Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in youth ministry, as a catechist or involvement in other parish ministry required. Must have stayed current on trends in catechetical ministry.

Additional Must be a practicing Catholic active in his/her parish. Must have a valid Requirements: driver's license. Must pass background check and attend Virtus Child and Youth Protection Training.

Physical Demands: While performing duties, employee has to sit for long periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, and answer telephone calls. The position also requires some standing, stooping, and bending when coordinating various educational programs and presentations. Employee is expected to work onsite. Some travel is required throughout the school year. Weekend and evening work is required.
