THE HARVARD SERIES: The Saints are unbeaten in their last five (4-0-1) against the Crim- son and have won their last three at the Bright Hockey Center. Overall, Harvard leads the series 49-42-7 following SLU’s 5-1 win in Cambridge in January.. The Saints are 5-1-1 since Harvard registered a sweep of the season series in 2010-11. SLU is 2-0-1 in the last three at Appleton and 21-10-5 in Canton all-time against the Crimson. Harvard’s last Appleton win was a 5-2 decision in 2011.

THE DARTMOUTH SERIES: The Saints lead the all-time series with the Big Green 55-34-3 and are 25-20-1 in games in Ha- nover after their 3-2 win earlier this season.. Dartmouth has won nine of the last 13 games between the two teams, but the Saints have won four straight in Hanover. The Big Green has won seven straight at Appleton, including a 2012 playoff sweep. Overall the Saint hold a 28-13-2 series edge at Appleton, but their last win was in 2008-09.

BROTHER ACTS: The Saints have a pair of brothers on the roster for the 10th straight year as while Greg Carey graduated and Matt Carey departed for the pros after last season, step-brothers Christian Horn and Patrick Steinhauser join the squad this season. The Careys played last year, brothers George and Gunnar Hughes played together for the Saints in 2012-13 and 2011-12, Sean and Kyle Flanagan and Pat and Matt Raley were teammates in 2010-11, Derek and Jared Keller played together from 2007-08 to 2009-10, and Mark and Paul Wallmann played for the Saints from 2004-05 to 2006-07. Other brother acts who have played together for the Saints have included the Lappins...Pete and Tim from 1984-85 to 1988-89 and Mike and Chris in 1990-91 and 1991-92, the Harneys, Jake and Justin from 1996-00, the Muir twins, Mike and Sean from 1998-02, plus Eric and Martin Lacroix in the 1990s, Bill and Mike Gerrie and Dean and Dick Popiel in the 1980s. In six of the brother pairings since 1987, one has been an All Ameri- ca...Greg Carey was a repeat All America and a Hobey Baker “Hobey Hat Trick” finalist last season. Pete Lappin was a two-time All America, Mike Lappin earned All America as a senior as did Justin Harney, Sean Flanagan and George Hughes. Pete and Tim Lappin are third on the all-time scoring list for brothers who have played together with 315 points (Pete 187, Tim 128). SPECIAL TEAMS, NATIONAL RANKINGS: The Saint penalty kill is tied third in the nation at 89.7 percent (113 of 126) and is tied for second in shorthanded goals with seven. The Saints have killed 38 of 40 in the last 11 games (95 percent) and had a streak of 24 straight snapped at Princeton.. The Saint power play is scoring at a 16.5 percent clip overall and the Saints are eighth in the nation in combined special teams at 53.8 percent. SLU ranks fourth nationally in defense at 1.97 goals per game, is tied for 22nd in offense at 2.93 and 10th in scoring marging at 0.90 goals per game. Goaltender Kyle Hayton is tied for second nationally in shutouts, second in save percentage at .940, second in saves with 865 and eighth in goals against average at 1.88.

SPREAD THE WEALTH: While the Saints had three big scorers last season, it has been offense by committee thus far this season as the Saints have 88 goals scored and 22 different players among the goal scorers. Alex Dahl scored one each night at Dartmouth and Harvard to become the 22nd player to score a goal and it is the first time in program history that every non-goalie who has played in a game has at least one goal. Gunnar Hughes leads the team in goals with nine while Patrick Doherty has eight, Brian Ward, Sean McGovern and Tommy Thompson have seven, Mike Marnell six and Christian Horn and Gavin Bayreuther five.

MORE FIRSTS: Kyle Hayton became the first Saint goaltender to shut out Clarkson in Potsdam since Bill Sloan in January of 1953 with his 30 stops in the last meeting. Hayton, who set the rookie record for shutouts in a season and tied the program record, was named ECAC Rookie of the Month for the second consecutive month after going 5-2-0 with a 1.70 goals against average on a .940 save percentage in November. He is the first SLU player to win back-to-back league monthly awards since the inception of that program. He was named both ECAC Rookie and Goaltender of the month for January after going 6-2-1 with a 1.76 goals against average and a .944 save percentage for the month. The Saints beat Clarkson twice in Potsdam in the same season for the first time in program history and Hayton, Gene DelVecchio (1949-50 and 1950-51) and Bill Sloan (1952-56) are the only Saint goalies with more than one career win at Clarkson.

NHL CONNECTIONS: Former Saint Rich Peverley (Dallas Stars), Brandon Bollig (Chicago Blackhawks) and Mike McKenna (Columbus Bluejackets) were the only Saints playing in the NHL last season with a number of players playing in the AHL, ECHL or other profes- sional leagues. Peverly hopes to return to action after being sidelined by an irregular heartbeat. Bollig was traded to Calgary and McKenna spent most of his season in the AHL, playing in four games for Columbus in goal. A host of former players hold significant positions in the NHL. Former goaltender Jacques Martin was the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens and and most recently an assistant at Pittsburgh. Ex-defenseman Randy Sexton, former GM at Ottawa and Florida, is now with Pittsburgh in player develop- ment.. Bill Torrey, who has a long history of management success in the NHL, was in charge of the search for Martin’s replacement as GM in Florida, is the Panthers’ Alternate Governor and is a member of the NHL Hall of Fame. Former Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero is a former Saint captain. Murray Cawker is Director of Hockey Operations for the Florida Panthers, Paul Castron is Director of Amateur Scouting for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Eric LaCroix is Director of Hockey Operations for the Colorado Avalanche, Mike Barnett is Director of US Scouting for the New York Rangers and is a former Pheonix Coyotes GM, Mark Leach is a scout for the Detroit Red Wings, and Mark Bonneau is a vice president with the Ottawa Senators. Teddy Dent is the coach of the Chicago’s top minor league club in Rockford. Former Saint player Jamie Baker, who had a 10-year NHL career, is the color commentator and SLU graduate Dan Rousanowsky is the play-by-play announcer for the San Jose Sharks. Mike Madill retired as a player last year and was named coach of the Las Vegas team in the ECHL. Mike Keenan became the first coach to win the Stanley Cup and the Kontinental Hockey League championship when he won the Gagarin Cup with the Metallurg Magnitorgosk team in Russia last season. Peverley became the first Saint to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup as a playing member of the championship team when the Bruins won the cup in June. Bollig joined him (along with Dent) in 2012-13 when the Blackhawks won the cup.

SAINT ECAC AWARD WINNERS: Nolan Gluchowski ECAC Rookie of the Week 10/14: Gluchowski became the league’s leading rookie scorer after week one with four points. In two weekend games the Wixom, Michigan native had two assists in 5-2 loss to RIT and recorded a goal and an assist in a 10-2 win over Niagara before being injured in the third period. Kyle Hayton ECAC Rookie of the Week 10/21: Hayton stopped 77 of 80 shots for the weekend with a 3-2 overtime loss and a 2-0 win over No. 4 Ferris State. His 44 saves in game one were the most for a Saints goalie since November of 2012. He made 33 saves in his first colle- giate shutout Saturday, the earliest in a career for a Saint since Alex Petizian shutout Wayne State in his first appearance in October 2006. ECAC Goaltender of the Week: 10/28: 38 saves in a 5-4 Friday win over 10th-ranked Miami on the road and 51 stops in a 2-1 over- time loss in game two in Ohio. The 51 saves were the most for a Saint goalie since Derek Gustafson’s 72 in the four-overtime win over Boston University in the 2000 NCAA quarterfinals. ECAC Rookie of the Month: October: Hayton was second nationally in minutes played (429:11) and first in saves (246) among all Division I netminders in October. He earned wins over two top ten teams on consecutive weekends blanking then No. 4 Ferris State and then edging No. 10 Miami, while suffering overtime losses in both series. For his efforts he was named ECAC Rookie of the Week following Ferris State series and ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week following Miami series where he recorded 51 saves in 2-1, overtime road loss. ECAC Rookie of the Week: 11/11: Tied for the national lead with 10 games played and started, Hayton set a St. Lawrence rookie record with his third shutout of the season at Yale Saturday and helped the Saints to their first sweep of a season-opening ECAC Hockey road series since 2006-07. He leads the nation in both saves (332) and shots faced (352), while boasting a record of 6-3-1. Hayton is ranked 10th nationally in save percentage (.943), which is first first among his rookie counterparts. He also showcases a 1.97 goals-against average, which ranks second among rookie goaltenders and 19th among overall netminders. Award winners (Hayton)...continued ECAC Rookie of the Month: November: Led the nation in shutouts with three for the month to become the first SLU player to win back-to-back league monthly awards since the inception of the program. Went 5-2-0 with a 1.70 goals against average and a .940 save percentage in November. ECAC Rookie of the Week: 1/19: Made 36 saves in a 3-2 win at Dartmouth and 46, 21 of them in the third period in a 5-1 win at number four Harvard. ECAC Rookie and Goaltender of the Month, January: Finished the month with a 1.76 goals-against average in nine overall January games and recorded a 1.42 goals-against average in his six league starts. His save percentage of .944 ranked seventh among all goaltenders in the nation in January. His six wins in nine games (6-2-1) were good enough to tie for the nation’s lead among his goaltending counterparts for the month of January. He logged 546:03 minutes for the month which ranked second in the nation and his 269 saves were second-best as well for all netminders. He went 6-1-0 in league play and did not all more than two goals in a game. He posted back-to-back wins over nationally-ranked foes - Harvard (5-1) and Yale (3-2, OT). Sean McGovern ECAC Player of the Week: 11/11: McGovern recorded his first-career collegiate two-goal game in a 5-2 win at Brown last Friday and found the back of the net for the third goal of the weekend and fourth of his career the following evening as the Saints registered a 4-0 shutout at Yale. He registered a plus-3 on the weekend. He now has five points (3g, 2a) in eight games during the 2014-15 campaign for the Saints. Mike Marnell ECAC Rookie of the Week: 1/26: Marnell scored the game winner in overtime as the Saints edged Yale 3-2 and also had a goal in a 5-2 win over Brown in the Saint home sweep. It was the first time the Saints have swept a season series with Brown since 1991-92.

PLAYER PROFILES 1 • Kyle Hayton • Fr. • Goaltender • 6-0 • 160 • Denver, CO • Sioux City (USHL): A member of two National U-18 champion- ship teams and the NARCH Roller Hockey National Championship team, Kyle was a USHL All-Star team member in 2013. He had a 2.29 goals against average and a .932 save percentage for Sioux City. He attended Shattuck St. Mary’s and played soccer and lacrosse, earning high academic honors. He is the son of Lewis and Kristen Hayton. 2014-15: Made his official debut in the season opener at RIT and earned his first collegiate win in the 10-2 win at Niagara. Credited with 23 saves in each game. He made the most saves since Matt Weninger had 46 in a game at Clarkson in 2012 in game one of the Ferris State series, stopping 44 of 47 in a 3-2 OT loss. He then recorded a shutout with a 33-save night in game two, his fourth collegiate start, the earliest shutout in a career since Alex Petizian shut out Wayne State 4-0 in his collegiate debut Oct. 28, 2006. He was named ECAC Rookie of the Week following the Ferris State series. He had the most saves in a game with 51 in a 2-1 overtime loss at Miami since Derek Gustafson’s epic 72-save night in multiple 20-minute overtimes against BU in the 2000 NCAA quar- terfinals. He had 89 saves on 95 shots and was named ECAC Goaltender of the Week. While he missed out on weekly awards despite another strong performance in a 2-2 tie (34 saves) and became the first Saint goalie to shut out Clarkson in Potsdam with a 30-save night in Saturday’s 4-0 win, Hayton was named ECAC Rookie of the Month for his first month of collegiate play. He went 3-3-1 with a 2.52 goals against average, a .932 save percentage and averaged 35 saves per game for the month of October. He earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors following the Brown-Yale series and his 32-save, 4-0 shutout at Yale is his third of the year, a SLU rookie record. He was named ECAC Rookie of the Month for November, the first SLU player to win back-to-back monthly awards. He recorded his fourth shutout of the season against Princeton, tying the SLU single-season record. He is first among 30 rookie goalies in games played, minutes played, saves, shots, save percentage,wins, shutouts and second in goals against average nationally. He had his first night off in game one of the Vermont series and made 27 saves in a 2-0 loss in game two of that set. Earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors with 82 saves on 85 shots in wins at Dartmouth (3-2) and Harvard (5-1). 37 of his 82 saves came in the third period of the two games, 16 at Dartmouth and 21 at Harvard. He is tied for second nationally in shutouts (4), second in save percentage (.940) second in saves (865) and third in minutes played (1759). He beat Clarkson for the second time in Potsdam, just the third Saint goalie to do that in a career and the first to do it in the same season, and finished the month of January with a 1.76 goals against average and a .944 save percentage. His 31-save night against Quinnipiac was the 15th 30-or-more save game of the season. He has the best goals against average and save percentage in program history through his first 29 appearances. 11 assists for 18 points from the blue line in 63 games for the Youngstown Phantoms. He was plus-three for the season and had five special teams goals, three on the power play and two shorthanded. In two seasons at Youngstown he scored 11 goals and had 19 assists in 123 games. He attended Ursuline High School and played lacrosse, helping his team to a state champion-

ship. He is the son of Mike and Linda Sweetman. 2013-14: Made his collegiate debut in game one against Maine and assisted on Patrick Doherty’s game winning goal for his first collegiate point. Scored his first collegiate goal on the power play in game two at Ferris State. He had his first career multi-point game with assists on two of the three goals at Harvard and added an assist at Dartmouth. He finished his rookies season with three goals and 12 assists for 15 points and played in all 38 games.

His first career playoff goal was the game winner in overtime in game one of the Brown series and he assisted on two other game-deciding goals. 2014-15: Had a pair of assists at Niagara. He scored his first goal of the year in game one of the Miami se- ries and it was the game-winner. He earned All New England first team honors in both hockey and lacrosse while playing for the Holderness School in 2012 and also played soccer for Holderness. He is the son of John and Jessica Bayreuther. 2013-14: The ECAC Co-Rookie of the Year and a second-team All ECAC defenseman, Gavin was one of the outstanding young defensemen in the nation last year. He was third in the country in scoring by defensemen with nine goals and 27 assists, and the top-scoring rookie defenseman and fifth overall among all rookies. He had six power play goals among his nine for the season and assisted on three game winning goals. 2014-15: Selected as a pre-season ECAC All Star and is the only sophomore among that group...one of two sophomores se- lected as one of college hockey’s impact defensemen for 2014-15. He was Rookie of the Year in the AJHL in 2010. He was on the roster at the University of Minnesota in 2012-13, but did not play in any games. He was a member of the Minnesota state champion high school team at Benilde St. Margarets and is that school’s second leading scorer and first all time in assists. He attended three national development camps in hockey. Also a standout in lacrosse, he led the team in scoring in three of his four seasons on the team and was first team All State, helping the team to two state titles. He received the Athletic Director’s Award as the best male athlete. He is the son of Janice Steinhauser and Ron Horn. 2014-15: Made his first appearance in the Miami series and scored on his first shot as a Saint with a power play goal to open the scoring in game one. He scored 12 goals and had 11 assists and was plus-five in 53 games, scoring three power play goals and two short handed goals along with a game winner. He had six goals and four assists in 40 games with the Ice in 2009-10. A physical player with good speed and a hard shot, he has the ability to play either forward or defense. 2011-12: The Saint nominee for ECAC Rookie of the Year, Chris Martin finished his first collegiate season with 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points, good for third on the team in scoring. He had three power play goals among his 10 and had a pair of assists on game-winning goals, the home win over Quinnipiac and a home win against Princeton. He had nine power play points with three goals and six assists and tied for second overall among all ECAC rookies in scoring.He was ECAC Rookie of the Week Nov. 22 after scoring two goals against Harvard. 2012-13: While he did not quite reach his rookie season scoring totals, Chris Martin had a solid sophomore season for the Saints with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 38 games. Gunnar had 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points in 57 games for the Blackhawks, scoring five shorthanded goals and a pair of game winners. He was the Rookie of the Year for the Blackhawks.Gunnar attended the Salisbury School and intends to major in economics at St. Lawrence. 2011-12: Gunnar had a solid rookie campaign for the Saints, playing in 34 of 36 games and scoring four goals to go with six assists. Two of his four goals were game winners...the home victory over Harvard and in game one against Minnesota State. The Harvard goal was his first colleigate goal. He played in 32 straight after sitting out the second weekend of the year. 29 • Kyle MacDonald • Jr. • Goaltender • 6-0 • 175 • Hanover, MA • Bay State (EJHL) The Boston Herald Goalie of the Year and a three-time Catholic Conference All Star while playing at Xaverian Brothers High School, Kyle MacDonald also played junior hockey for the Bay State Breakers in the EJHL. While he was limited to five games by injury in his final junior season, compiling a 2.59 goals against average and a .919 save percentage, he had a 2.63 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and went 10-7-1 in 20 games in 2010-11 for the Breakers. He led his high school team to three Super 8 appearances, the first in school history, was was captain of the Eastern Massachusetts champion baseball team as a senior. He is the son of Andy and Mary Beth MacDonald. 2012-13: Kyle MacDonald played in three games in a backup role as a rookie and will push for more play- ing time in his sophomore season. He was 12-9 in 24 appearances for Springfield in 2011-12 with a 2.75 goals against average. He was a 2013 NAHL Top Prospect invitee. The son of Erica Parks, he was a honors student in high school. 2013-14: Made his first collegiate appearance in relief in game two of the Ferris State game.
