Announced Today the Appointment of Sergio Lopez As the Head Coach of Singapore Swimming
MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release Singapore Swimming appoints Sergio Lopez as Head Coach SINGAPORE, 18 November 2014 – Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) announced today the appointment of Sergio Lopez as the Head Coach of Singapore Swimming. Spaniard Lopez, 45, has served for the past seven years as the Head Coach and Aquatics Director at The Bolles School. It was at Bolles where he trained Singaporean swimmer Joseph Isaac Schooling for the last four years. Schooling, who medalled at the 2014 Commonwealth and Asian Games is ranked top 10 in the world in the 100 metres butterfly event and also regarded as one of the best butterfly specialists at college level in the United States at this point. “I want to thank the Singapore Swimming Association and the Singapore Sports Institute (SSI) for believing in me and giving me this chance to lead Singapore Swimming. "It is a privilege to have been chosen to lead Singapore Swimming to greater heights and to work alongside the Singaporean coaches and help them develop swimming to the highest levels possible. "The ultimate goal is to establish Singapore Swimming as one of the top in the world over the next five years. I know that it is not an easy task, but I believe that with the talent of swimmers, coaches and the resources that the SSA and SSI have in place, the dream is attainable. "This is a team effort and I believe that if we all work for the good of Singapore, then the sky is the limit,” said Lopez. During his time as Head Coach and Aquatics Director at the Bolles School, Lopez was also part of the USA Senior National Coaching Team from 2012 to 2014 and USA Junior National Team Coaching Team from 2009 to 2014. -

Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) Today Announced That Gary Tan Has Been Hired As Assistant Coach to the Newly Appointed Head Coach Sergio Lopez
MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release Singapore Swimming Name Gary Tan as Assistant Coach SINGAPORE, 8 December 2014 – Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) today announced that Gary Tan has been hired as assistant coach to the newly appointed head coach Sergio Lopez. Gary joins Singapore Swimming on a full-time basis and will begin his tenure on 1 January 2015. Gary is no stranger to the national team setup as he has had previous experiences as Head Coach for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games Team and the 2008 World Youth Swimming Championships Team. He was also part of the national coaching team for the 2014 Asian Games, 2009/2013 Southeast Asian Games and the 2009/2012 World Swimming Championships. “I am looking forward to work with Lopez in this new challenge. It is also a great opportunity for me to learn from one of the best coaches in the world and I am truly grateful for the trust that Singapore Swimming has in me to allow me to immerse myself in a role which I see providing many future benefits, particularly in areas of high performance,” said the 32- year-old. Prior to joining Singapore Swimming, Gary was a senior coach with Swimfast Aquatic Club and a Business Director with Swim Lab. His role involves coaching elite swimmers for the Southeast Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and the Olympic Games. He has produced the likes of Olympian Quah Ting Wen and Quah Zheng Wen, and multiple Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, Rainer Ng and Darren Lim. Graduating from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in General Psychology, Gary is also an accredited NCAP level 2 coach and was a former national swimmer having represented Singapore in the 2000/2004 Olympic Games, 2002/2006 Asian Games, 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 1997/1999/2001/2003/2005 Southeast Asian Games in which he won 6 relay gold, 8 individual silver and 6 individual bronze medals. -

Tuan Haji Mohd Fasiah bin Mohd. Fakeh [Sabak Bernam] minta Menteri Belia dan Sukan menyatakan perancangan kementerian bagi melahirkan atlet negara berprestasi tinggi semenjak alam persekolahan lagi dan nyatakan setakat ini bilangan atlet berprestasi tinggi dan bidang sukan yang telah dikenal pasti mampu melonjakkan nama negara di bidang sukan antarabangsa. Menteri Belia dan Sukan [Tuan Khairy Jamaluddin]: Terima kasih Tuan Yang di-Pertua. Saya jawab soalan nombor satu, jawapan daripada calon nombor satu Ketua Pemuda UMNO Malaysia. [Ketawa] Pertamanya, sebelum saya menjawab soalan ini saya ingin merakamkan ucapan tahniah kepada Kontinjen Malaysia ke Sukan Perpaduan Negara-negara Islam Ketiga yang baru sahaja tamat di Palembang, Indonesia yang mana kita telah mencatat kedudukan keempat dengan 26 pingat emas dan 72 pingat keseluruhan.
