Although we strive to keep these information sheets up to date as possible, information may be changed since our last update Visa Information: Every Non-EU student who stays in Germany for more than 3 months needs to get a prolongation for their visa. This process will be fully arranged for you by the International Office. Approximately 6 weeks after your arrival you will get an Email from the International Office which explains exactly what documents you have to provide for that. Please note that for a certain amount of time we will have to keep your passport in order to prolong your visa. Of course you still can do the prolongation on your own. Though we recommend to let the International Office do it for you, due to long waiting hours. You need the following documents in order to prolong your visa on your own: Application form for residence permit (form available at the International Office) Proof of "Bürgeramt" registration Passport or Identity Card Student ID/ Certificate of Enrolment Medical Insurance Certificate Proof of financial funds for living in Germany 2 Passport photos (no automat photos or colour copies) Can students work while on exchange to University of applied Sciences Regensburg: Students from Bulgaria and Romania and from non-EU countries may work 120 full days or 240 half days per year. In addition, employment as a student assistant at the university is permitted and is not counted towards the 120 full or 240 half working days. For all employment activities that go beyond this scope, students must apply for an employment permit with the responsible authorities (immigration authorities and Federal Employment Agency). The employment permit is only granted if this does not have adverse effects on the applicant's studies. Updated February.2014 *This is not a legal document. Although we strive to keep these information sheets up to date as possible, information may be changed since our last update Student Services / Activities available: FEBS A few years ago students of the “European Business Studies“ (EBS) department founded the EBS FEBS society. This society organises a few events during the semester, in which EBS and other international students from all departments are welcome. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact them: [email protected] or www.febs.de “Big brother” or “Big sister” This is basically a scheme set up to help the international students get into contact with the German students at Regensburg University of Applied Sciences. If you are interested in getting a “big brother“ or “big sister“, you will be allocated one at the beginning of the semester. Thereafter, if you have any queries, questions or problems, your “big brother“ or “big sister“ will be able to help you. More often than not, students tend to socialize with their “big brothers“ and “big sisters“ as well. It’s also possible to get a “Tandempartner“.Should you choose to take this option, it would entail meeting a German student once a week for language learning purposes. The aim is for both persons to increase their knowledge and speaking ability in the other language. Accommodation Information Your home university will have provided you with application forms for student housing and for admission to OTH Regensburg. After you or your home university has returned both the admission forms and the application for accommodation, Bewerbung um Aufnahme in ein Wohnheim” to the International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt) of OTH Regensburg we will try to reserve an accommodation for you (depending on availability). Exchange students are asked to pay a non-refundable reservation fee of € 60 and a deposit of € 240 (the deposit is refundable at the end of the stay). We do not recommend students to come to Regensburg without first having reserved accommodation through the International Office. Finding a furnished room on the private market for such a short period of time is very difficult. Furthermore, landlords and estate agents often charge additional fees and deposits for rooms and these are generally unfurnished. For organisational reasons, it is not possible to give you the exact name and address of your student hall of residence before your arrival in Regensburg. Although we strive to keep these information sheets up to date as possible, information may be changed since our last update Type of accommodation: The International Office reserves single rooms in various student halls of residence. These rooms differ in size and furnishing. All of them are furnished with bed, blankets, pillows, chair, a bookshelf and a wardrobe. Please bring your own bed linen! The voltage is 220 V. In most halls of residence, students have to share a bathroom and a kitchen. There are common rooms with a TV and most have computer rooms with 24-hour internet access. Every student hall of residence is equipped with washing machines and dryers. Irons and ironing boards are not provided. For information on dorm locations please check the website: http://www.oth-regensburg.de/fileadmin/media/international/pdf/2014/Practical- Guide-2014.pdf City Information Founded by the Romans in 179 AD as Casta Regina (meaning Fortress by the River Regen), Regensburg is one of Germany's oldest towns. It was relatively spared from Allied bombings during World War II. Today, many flock to see the wonderfully intact old city and its many medieval structures. The 12th-century Stone Bridge was used by Crusaders en route to the Holy Land. The Regensburg Cathedral (or Dom St. Peter) is one of southern Germany's finest examples of Gothic architecture. Banking: You will need a bank account for the time of your stay in Regensburg. The first reason is, that we can transfer your dorm room deposit only to a German bank account Moreover, a German bank giro account facilitates any kind of money transfer within Germany (any payments, remittance etc.). Therefore we advise all exchange students to open a German bank account. Ideally you find a branch of any bank near to where live. When opening an account please have the proof of police registration with you as well as your passport or ID and your certificate of enrolment from University of Applied Sciences Regensburg. Students usually reap specific benefits of the conditions of a bank account. Currency:Euro Updated February.2014 *This is not a legal document.
