Josipovic believes that in this century, Croatia will unite in the fight against cor- ruption and crime and said that he would support e#orts to stimulate enterprise and strengthen mo- tivation for domestic and foreign investment. In his address, Josipovic thanked all honorable people who fought for a free and just Croatia, many of whom died in that fight, as well as his predecessor, Stjepan Mesic, for his exceptional contribution to Croatia's democratic development. The new President also thanked all previous governments and parliaments, including the team negotiating Croatia's EU membership, for the great e#orts they have invested in "making our European dream come true".
